It’s really not once you realize how unnecessary most of the newer truck interiors are and that they just have more to break . I would’ve gotten my new Titan without the ventilated seats and pano roof if my dealership had a baja storm pro-4x without. All I “need” with newer trucks is adaptive cruise and Apple CarPlay.

I would’ve kept the Tacoma or depending on what’s available go older or keep it depending on things like tech such as CarPlay or android auto. I would take a outdated Tacoma with a naturally aspirated 4 cylinder or V6 paired to a automatic or manual over a unproven 3rd generation Tundra with a turbo V6 and with Toyota’s reputation for reliability I don’t consider the powertrain proven until we have 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500K miles with little to no major repairs with normal driving and proper maintenance.

Don't forget a TRD Pro Tundra didn't come with a leather steering wheel cover. How is that possible? And check the crash testing on that beast. Don't ever wreck that thing.

My 2015 Tundra has Katzkin Leater seats with heat and ventilation - black leather with silver stitching and the Texas Lonestar embroidered - cheaper than a new Tundra :D
I also upgraded to a new Tacoma leather steering wheel since the Tundras come with a crappy rubber steering wheel - well worth the 250.00

I'm with you Jon, I went from a 23 tundra to a last Gen as well to save some dough.
People talk a tough game of the 2nd Gen being better... But in reality there's a lot of creature comforts in the new Tundras that it actively feels bad to go back to the last one.
I'm firmly in the camp that most of the 3rd Gens (especially after a couple of years of production to work out the kinks) will last just as long as a 2nd Gen with good maintenance.
Sure, a gen 3 might be slightly more expensive to maintain but people are absolutely full of themselves if they think apl of the additional creature comforts don't outweigh a couple of bucks extra to maintain.
"Gen 2 is better than Gen 3" is an objectively wrong and vocal minority. 🤷🏻‍♂️

No way on planet earth will a gen 3 last as long on original turbos. Just the turbos, I’m not talking about the motor itself. Reddit guys show receipts than the gen 3 is 4-6k to replace just one turbo.

There are SO many things going wrong on the 3rd gen. There is no way it will last as long, even with double the maintenance.

New ones are garbage. My friend put a heavy pallet in back of his 22 and the bed buckled. Can't shut the tail gate now. Luckily he kept his second gen and still uses it for the pallets with same weight with no issues. He said with the engine recall and cheap plastic he regrets buying it.

Solely on aesthetics, vehicles have been getting more and more bloated-looking over the years.
Just look at this gen vs 1st. Just not a fan of bloated angles.
I also feel like overall product quality deteriorates too with all the cheap plastics unlike it's predacessors whos plastics regularly stands up to time.

What people fail to grasp is while the 3rd gen wont be as reliable as the 2nd gen, it will be "reliable enough" to still be a much better truck with all the improvements made to the platform.
This isnt to say the 2nd gen is a bad truck. Its very solid, but still falls short of the 3rd gen in nearly all areas
