Hi Tim, I purchased a 24 Limited Tundra in May (before I found out about the engine problems). I love the truck. I found your videos and immediately recognized the scenary. I grew up on a farm in Mitchell Valley. Currently living outside of Houston. Thanks for your great videos and keeping us informed on the Tundra developments.
Had a 2023, dealer purchased it back after constant engine issues. Rode like a rocket, when the engine was actually working. Definitely a conversation starter.
You make good points about the hybrid: We really don't need any more damn towing ability in a 1/2-ton, we need affordability. Most of the recreational towing is probably be 6-7K or less. That'll cover most bumper pull TTs as well as utility trailers. That's all a 1/2-ton really needs to be able to handle, but it needs to handle that well.
I owned a 2004 tundra and currently own a 2016 tundra. Pricing on the newer trucks has pushed me away. No pickup truck ever made is worth 75-90k Maybe some of the super super duty but no 1/2 ton pickup.
I like my 22 - a few issues, but so far Toyota has taken care of them (albeit after significant effort and time invested on my part for a few things). Definitely need an aftermarket option for infotainment system. Really sucks, even after recent update.
I wished Toyota would have taken more inspiration from the F150 Powerboost. The PB provides more power as well as fuel economy, PLUS up to 7.2kw of on board power. So much more useful.
You forgot one of the biggest dislike's. No step to get in the bed seeing it don't have a rear bumper to step on. Too bad this truck is less useful as a TRUCK than the 2021 or older.
True abut the 14 inch daytime display mode when set in the automatic control. It is way too bright and distracting in automatic mode. I switched to NOT using the automatic control and enabled the manual Dark mode for all the time and it looks way better and lest distractng (next to turing it off).
I just spent $1500 for a platinum 10yr/100k warranty for my 2024 Tundra TRD Limited 4x4. I hope I never have to use it but those V6s are still spinning cranks.
I had a new 23 Ford F150 loaded Limited that was totaled in an accident by some moron pulling out in front of me. I now have 24 Tundra TRD Pro. Both about the same price. I liked both trucks. The Toyota does have a better ride. Couldn’t find another F150 with the options I wanted (Ford kept dropping things like bed facing camera, heated steering wheel, no rear fender liners or mud flaps, etc because of chip shortage). The Tundra feels more powerful. Ford has a much better tailgate step by far. I miss the rear under-seat storage in the Tundra as the hybrid battery takes up all the space. Not pleased about the engine problems with the Tundra for sure as one of the main reasons to going Toyota was quality control and reduced maintenance over the long term. I keep vehicles for 10-15 years, so we’ll see if my choice was wise or not as time goes on.
Back in the day we used to call softex, vinyl. The leather name is used by manufacturers too loosely. Tow hook story is garbage. Other manufacturers don't have safety issues with tow hooks.
Positives: Color (something other than the black, white, silver, and gray quadruplet), exterior (especially 1794 trim), and some more unique engineering underneath (rear axle construction). Negatives: No need for a hybrid (it's optional, I know, I would not option it), 4WD (I don't off-road, I don't worry about snow, etc), and the price (you need a better than better than average income to comfortably afford it!
Does the trd pro fix all the interior cabin issues? Like cheap plastic, creaks, rattles etc. What about the flimsy grill plastic? I think you could of easily done a 10 things you like and dislike video with all the things you left out.
Is Toyota the only company that has no tailgate step function. Like Ford, GM and Dodge have. Seems they are behind the curve. That’s a deal breaker for me in my construction work load. In and out of the box numerous times in a day. Plus our winter climate condition. My 4wd auto is a godsend in ice and snow to dry pavement in parking lots
The new Tundra TRD Pro prices are creeping up to the price of a base Raptor. Yet the raptor is a much overall better truck and more enjoyable to drive.
Been a toyota fan for years... no more this Truck is awful. Ugly AF, cheaply built, cheap components, poor fit and finish, totally unreliable and insanely expensive.
Owned a 22 & 23 tdr tundra they both was the worst truck ever drove. I run a Nissan Titan pro 4x under them a lot better built truck. Doors and windows don’t rattle. I can roll down the back window with out it trying to fall out. They run double pain windows so it’s quite. New tundras need to stay in the city because it’s not made for off road.
The problem, beyond quality control issues, is the Taco is now officially ugly. The TRD Pro looks pretty decent but all other models remind me of a Lego.
Yeah, I tried out one of these vehicles. I gotta be honest, very disappointed. The design is questionable at best, and for what you pay for this vehicle, I'd expect more. So, let's point out the issues I had with this vehicle. 1. The interior who gave the green light to send the current interior to production? It's a mess that the quality of the interior feels cheap and low quality. The seats are lumpy and uncomfortable, and I had a horrible time finding a comfortable seating position. 2 the ride, yes, I know it's an off- road pickup, but come on, the ride was stiff and uncomfortable even over small imperfections in the road. Now I know Idaho's roads aren't the best. However, they're considering better than what you get in Wyoming or Washington, or even Oregon. That being said if you try to drive those roads over there in that truck. We'll let's just say you better have a skeleton made out of granite cause this truck will beat you up on those roads. The Ram Rebel and the GMC Sierra AT4 have better rides than this truck. 3 the engine and transmission combo is eh. The Tundra's transmission feels jerky at lower speeds and not much better at higher speeds. So Toyota should probably look into reflashing the computer interior transmission and try to make the shifts smoother. 4 tow hooks or lack of. You're telling me that on a nearly 80k truck, you can't get tow hooks. 🤷🤷. Come on, Toyota, get your shit together. 5 price the Msrp on those trucks is 70 to about 75k. However, because they're so exclusive to get ahold of a lot of the dealers are charging 5k over. So, over 80k for those trucks. So way over too much over in my opinion given the stuff I mentioned. For about the same amount of money, I could buy a Ram Rebel, an F150 tremor, a GMC Sierra AT4, or even an AT4X or even a ZR2 Silverado. No thanks. Toyota is a swing and a miss in my book. Toyota needs to do better.
Got mine in march... seats suck and they don't heat that great, wind noise inside, back bumper is worthless, way to much cheap plastic outside and in, jbl system sucks, tailgate shuts like a 1970s truck👎great power, love the pano roof ans rear window👍 gave it to my wife and got a new Silverado zr2 1500👍
Ahh the Tundra haters. I love my 22 platinum hybrid. You can cry all you want about how much you hate the Tundra, but I love it. I'm not a fanboy, just experienced. As you can imagine, I will never buy a Ford or Chevy. About my truck, auto step lets me in and out of the back quicker than a For or Chevy guy can undo their gimmick gate. Trucks in its class, Tundra out tows it. The looks of the Tundra inside and out, beautiful. Yes I am getting 21 mpgs. It does the job I need it to do. Keep hating, doesn't change my view.
I've talked to a lot of new Tundra owners. One had to have an engine replacement and he still said he would buy it again. Every video about a 3rd gen Tundra is gonna have these crybabies responding but none of them actually own one.
