  • How to Grow and Care for Celosia plant - Celosia plumosa, also known as Cockscomb is one of the hardiest Annual that you can grow at your home. The best thing about growing Cockscomb is that you can grow either in Winter season or in Summer season as well. Here in this video I have covered everything growing from seedling stage to flowering so that you get all the info in a single video.
    Things That You Would Learn -
    1. Selecting the ideal container for your Celosia plants
    2. Preparing the best potting soil mix for Celosia plants. They are really hardy plant and would do well in any soil. But for better results, it's always a good idea to add at least 20-25% either vermicompost or composted cow dung manure to the potting soil mix
    3. Sunlight requirements for Celosia plants
    4. Watering your Celosia flowers
    5. Best Fertilizer for Celosia or Cockscomb plants - they are not that heavy feeder. So, plz don't feed them too often
    6. Pest management
    7. Celosia plant propagation - there are two ways to do it. First one is obviously from the seeds. But you can grow or propagate Celosia plants from cuttings as well.
    How to Use Neem Oil Properly
    • This is EXACTLY How to...
    Thank you very much for watching the video and if you have any questions, please let me know. Have a great day :-)

    My friend left a plant at my house and it blew a seed into my garden and now I have over thirty. Very easy plants to care fore. If you want to get taller blooms better for cut flowers, move to 3/4-1/2 day sun.

    I love these. I only bought the plants once, because they drop seeds all around when the flower stalk begins to die. They can take the worst heat where I live (sometimes as high as 45deg Celsius of even hotter and, like this video says, even winter, which sometimes goes down to 1 or 2 deg celsius. Once the plant is dead, all you need to do is keep watering the soil in the pot and more seedlings spring up in their place.

    General suggestion for liquid fertiliser for all plants... in Tamil they say panchakavya and fish amino acid, both mixed together and dilute in water... each 5 ml in one litre water... giving this in 15 days intervals encourages more blooms...

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  4 года назад

      @Waldo Alcantara, Sure, I would be glad too :-) For Winter season, best time to sow the seeds is September end - October and they would be blooming till around April - May well. After that, they almost stop blooming like before and we can plant new plants again. For summer bloom, we can start sowing the seeds in March end and this way, we can enjoy the blooms throughout the whole year. Hope that helps and plz let me know if you have any question. Thank you :-)

    I've been googling how to care for celosia for many weeks, but it seems no matter what I do my celosias are drooping. The leaves slowly droop down till they look like the plant is wearing a dress of leaves, and then the stem starts bending over. The leaves look green and have no spots and are not hard and crinkly. I don't know what I'm doing wrong T.T they're in well draining soil in containers with holes in the bottom of the container and they get 7-8 hours of full sun a day. It's very humid here and right now day temperatures are between 70-80 degrees Fahrenheit.

    If my celosia plant is dying because of the cold temperatures, what can I do with it until Spring and Summer come back?

    • @juliemcgugan1244
      @juliemcgugan1244 Год назад

      If you can’t move them indoors, put them next to a wall where the heating of your home will come through. Keep watering once the soil becomes dry, but it won’t be needed as much as other times of year. The heat coming through the wall should keep them warm enough the survive winter.

      Hii.. I feel my seedlings r growing very slowly. Wat can I do for it?

    • @juliemcgugan1244
      @juliemcgugan1244 Год назад

      Nitrogen rich fertilizer for plant growth, Phostrogen for larger, more prolific blooms. If the whole plant is slow growing, I give them a dose of a 20-20-20 fertilizer once per month. Those numbers stand for nitrogen, Phostrogen and potassium. Nitrogen boosts green growth, phosphorous boosts flower development and potassium boosts root development.

    Is it necessary to deadhead celosia to get more bushy plant and more flowers?

    • @juliemcgugan1244
      @juliemcgugan1244 Год назад

      I just cut away what is dead and whenever I have to cut out a plant entirely, seed dropped down by that dead flower head means more will grow back in their place.

      @Premvati Gangwar, They bloom at least for 5-6 months (minimum) continuously and I believe this is quite great considering they are low maintenance plants. But, plz also note that too high temperature like (above 35 on a constant basis) is not good for most of the flowering plants. Feb me lagaye to, June-July tak to aram se flowering karega, sirf ache se care kijiyega. Thank you :-)

    Will they regrow after I cut flowers?

    • @juliemcgugan1244
      @juliemcgugan1244 Год назад

      Yes and, if the worst happens and the plant dies, cut the dry flower head off, sprinkle over a new pot of soil. Cover lightly with more soil and water until you see new plants germinating. They are very easy to propagate! I put seed heads in brown paper bags at the end of autumn, keep them inside until Spring, then plant and grow them again. I even see some coming up in the old soil of flower pots I have forgotten about.

      If you planted in winter or we call its harvest season it will give one to two leaves and a small flower and die plant them in rain or summers June-July.
