- A very unique and extremely gorgeous plant with exceptionally beautiful cut flowers, the Celosia "Dragons breath" plant is one made to turn heads. True, this perfect potted plant pal does take some equally unique care requirements, but once established this plant can be planted and forgotten, well, until you walk outdoors and see it in all its glory. As always make sure to watch the entire video so you can keep your dragon's breath thriving! As always plant prudently!

I just got this today. It was so pretty, I couldn't not get it. I got it on sale for $4 at Walmart. I've had a bunch of people telling me their Walmart plants keep dieing. So far I've been having good outcomes with mine though.
Thanks for the shout out and I’m glad your feeling better!!
I'm glad you got to see this video! I was worried because it took so long to get it done. I haven't seen you at work lately, I hope all is well! Take care!!
Beautiful plants🤩🤩
Hi new subscriber from Philippines
Can u make an update to your wandering Jew
I don't know how to make it more violet color
Thank you for subscribing! I love hearing from new fans! Yes, I will try and do one sometime in the future. Do you know which one you have?
We're in Southeastern Kentucky and first planted dragon's breath celosia 2 years ago. They caught my eye, and I'd never seen them locally prior to that. They had a beautiful burgandy/dark green leaf with vibrant burgundy plumes. I knew they were an annual, and I'd have to buy more this year. However, no one had them. 🥺🥺 I bought a few standard celosia plants and moved on. THEN, about 6-7 weeks ago (early to mid-August), THREE dragon's breath plants started coming up in that flower bed on their own! I'm now searching everywhere to see if I can dig them up, pot them, and possibly keep them alive throughout the winter. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Found it in a drainage ditch and have been grown it here in pa
I just purchased one. Do you have how-to’s for collecting seeds and how to store them until planting time so that I can just keep this plant in my garden year after year?
Please show the dragon breath plant outside also show your plant room. Love your channel
If you want to start Celosia from seed in containers when would the best time be to sow seeds?
I stripped all the seeds off my plant last fall and allowed to spread in the pot . Kept pot in an non heated but attached to the house usually stays above freezing. Took the pot out after frost and started watering as of this first week of June my pot is covered with hundreds of seedlings
I just got one of these for my bday and I'm going to try and keep in indoors for now. We'll see how that goes
Hi. Glad you’re feeling better. I live in Virginia and I planted the Dragon’s breath in a flower bed. It grew like a shrub. It is huge! I’d never heard of the dragon’s breath and when I purchased it, it was small. I couldn’t believe how big it grew this past summer. What do I do with it now? It has died of course but the branches are as big as some small tree branches. It has fallen over on all sides because of how big it was. Do I try to cut these branches or just pull it up completely?
I'm no expert but I would try cutting it back first to see how it goes for a few months before pulling it out. You never know, you might get lucky. 😀🌱
You can try and cut them back though if he's passed you may just want to pull him up throw him in the compost bin to give him a proper burial. Now if you think there is a chance you could save him I would put a decent layer of mulch around him about an inch or two deep to keep him warm through winter. Now these are considered annuals which only live about a year but living in a warmer climate like ours they can live a bit longer than that. I've done it before in northern Kentucky with other annuals like geraniums or petunias. Let me know if you have any other questions!
@@TheGreenAlchemist Thank you!
I live in Norfolk VA! Hi! I've been just cutting mine back- the dryer flowers. I cut them at an angle just above the next good leaf sprouts on the stem. I then let the cut parts dry out and shake the seeds out to plant later or to give to family and friends. I've harvested hundreds of the regular cock's comb, the brain looking ones and Dragon's Breath seeds. There are lots of videos on how to harvest the seeds.
Thank you for sharing w
Stay healthy! We want more videos from you!!
Thank you! I'm high risk so these past two years have been exceptionally hard on me. Though I'm still here so that's good!! lol. Thanks for watching and reaching out!!
I’m glad your feeling better!!!
Is this related to the coleus plant??
I am a new subscriber. I thoroughly enjoyed this video!
Thanks for the feedback! I love hearing from fans! Plant Prudently! 🌲
New to keeping potted plants can u help me I have beautiful dragon breath red a d can I repot her. And keep in house for the winter, in florida thank u lo b e video
Does this plant go well in a grow tent? I am looking for plants that will grow will in a tent but also take up space. I want to create an indoor forest for my kittens basically. I saw this at the local hardware store and it caught my eye so I had to buy it. Mine is pretty small and it's autumn here in Australia. Do you think I can put her in the tent with my light on an 18/6 on/off schedule and it will grow and continue to live forever provided she is cared for?
No they only live at most a couple years even in the right conditions. It’s just the nature of an annual plant and not a perennial
Thank you. Very helpful.
Thanks for the shout out
Wow amazing video. Thanks I love this plant.
Your cat is like mine, he always clean when we want. Thanks the video. 🤗🤝
I just bought my first Dragon's Breath (Lowe's Clearance). Beautiful container plant. It's a repeater.
I'm confused does the drain breathe died withing the year?
Thank you for your information
HAVE YOU TRIED PLANTING THE SEED .
My granddaughter Celysia of course picked the Celosia when I took her to choose her first plant. Bought it Saturday and it's looking pretty sad already on Thursday. I'm not sure there's anything I can do to save it. She told me I was really good with plants, so I should watch it for a couple days...yikes! I have it under a grow light for 8 hours in front of a south facing window. The soil was wet and is still moist. Beautiful plant but may be a little too much for us. Thank you for the video!
What a BEAUTY! How do I make mine become taller plant like yours? I want mine to live long each year without dying.
The best way to keep these annuals growing large is by keeping them in sunlight. These are annuals so typically they'll die after setting seed. If you think you do want to try and keep this plant around a little longer, message me and I'll tell you how. This plant was made to sit out in the heat, and they love it. They enjoy at least 6 hours of direct sunlight a day, and that's on the lower end. If you could you really should give it more than that, between 6-8+ hours. Now younger plants that aren't established need plenty of water. Established plants can usually get by on average amounts of water. If the temperatures go up the water in take levels should always go up too. Plants use a good amount of their water to photosynthesize. You should also get into a habit of deadheading spent flowers. Active pruning encourages new flowers and the plant to even grow more. In the early spring, I'll start mine out with some fish emulsion fertilizer to get him started out on the right foot. Throughout the growing season, I'll feed mine every 2-3 weeks with a reputable water-soluble fertilizer. With soil, they enjoy a quick-draining nutrient-rich soil that drains well. They don't like sitting in wet soil all day. I'll usually use a cacti soil modified with some compost from my compost bin. They aren't too picky when it comes to soil pH. They enjoy acidic, neutral, and alkaline soils.
@@TheGreenAlchemist So even if I behead the flowers it will still grow tall?
I got 3 different beauties today! 😌 i will try the advice and give you an update in the near future. my goal is to have them live 5+ years.
Yes, active pruning and deadheading will help them bush out and grow taller as well. Monitor his lights, water and humidity. In a couple of weeks I'd wake him up with a good feeding of fish emulsion fertilizer to help him replace nutrients he may have lost since last year. Once the danger of frost has passed I'd put him back outside. Keep me posted and let me know how it goes!
My dragon breath is as beautiful in my home as yours. Thank u u have helped me keep mine updated. God bless u and glad u are better now. Missed u.
That's awesome! I hope you get to enjoy it for quite some time! Let me know if you have any questions at all about it or any care requirements! Thank you for watching and letting me know you enjoy my video! God bless you and hope all is well! Stay in touch! 🌲
