      That is awesome! Hi Anne. Thank you for joining me. Amazing to hear from someone in Ohio 👋🏼. I just adore growing plants from seed - you've definitely got a lot more experience than me but I love to learn and I'm on a mission to start even more hardy perennials from seed this year.

    All of a sudden I fell in love with Celosia Cockscomb, could not handle them previously but something inside me just wanted these flowers, the pink and burgundy colour variety. I supported a lady starting a small dahlia business, spent quite a bit of money on the tubers but some were blind cut off with no eyes appearing at all, as dead as a Dodo :( she very kindly sent me two new tubers and a packet of Celosia Flamingo Feather, how do you understand that. She lives in another province/county and here I got these seeds. As I wish for them to be successful, I am researching all I can and here, low and behold, you popped up on the screen, so happy to see you would have hugged you in real life. I love your garden talks, our African sun can be extremely harsh so our plants do need a semi-shade covering even a 20% shade netting will do them good. Thank you for all the information you supplied, I am sure all shall be well. Enjoy the gardening it is so rewarding. Happy days, kind regards.

    Great information, now I know that the Cockscomb I've been sold is actually a Celosia Spicata

    Wow, once again I marvel that you try out so many different varieties! Are you trialling them and seeing what you like with a view to streamlining next year? My three varieties now seem very unadventurous. Mind you, I was rather startled in the beginning when you said Celosia takes 90-120 days to germinate!

      Oh my goodness! Is that what I said?!!! I meant that it's 90 - 120 days to flower!! What an idiot I am 🤪 Sorry for the confusion...😬

      @@cottoverdi I think we will all know what you mean. There was a lot of information in that video (much of it new to me-thank you) and these things happen. I did have a moment of mild panic though!

    Very informative video, just started growing this flower! Im growing in a potter, what do you recommend with spacing? Ps when’s the update on the Celosia?

      Hi there, hope you get a wonderful crop. Please check your seed packet for spacing because there are many varieties and they can grow differently.

    Running a fan will keep them from dampening off.

    • @cottoverdi
      @cottoverdi  11 дней назад

      yes, that will certainly help. Not overwatering is also important.

      @cottoverdi by that of course you mean the frequency of how often you water rather than the amount of water. I find that too much soil is often the cause of overwatering. People tend to put a plant and a pot that is too big for the plant.

    90-120 days to germination?!?! 😳

      😆 yes, I mis-spoke but it was too late to edit the video when I realised. I was talking about days from germination to bloom!

    Thank you Annette. Very interesting flowers. But if l'm truthful the ones like brains are not for me. The feather like ones are better. I love the fact you show us so many varieties of flowers. It must be wonderful having a dedicated flower garden beds. 🦋🐞🐝🌷🪴

      Thanks Penelope. Yes, the brain ones do look odd but they can make a stunning addition to arrangements - I can't wait to see what I can create with them this year. 💐😁
