Mario is a great guy. I moved to Alaska 9 years ago and met him. He took me up flying in his little 150 and we landed off airport. I knew that moment that this was what I wanted todo. He has helped a lot of young people get started in aviation. offered his 150 for rent at a lower cost giving people access to flying at an affordable price to get their License. give the shirt off his back kind a guy.
I had my seats made by these guys for my PA28... Definitely on the expensive side, however they are still much cheaper than hiring someone to reupholster your aircraft, and I've gotten lots of compliments on their quality. I highly recommend them.
After watching this video I called the seat company. My plane partners and I are ordering new seats soon for our Archer and These look like exactly what we are wanting. Thanks for the great video, and showcasing a REAL craftsman company. Another neat thing about the company is that we are in Louisiana and the process of ordering the seat kits is very easy on our part.
Great video Chris. Thanks for doing this. I’ve personally spoken to both of these guys in the past (didn’t know they are brothers!) and found both of them extremely helpful.
Well believe it or not I have the very plane that I learned to fly in back in the 70's , I am 64 , a retired AgPilot, back in like 1979 I was taking off with my boss who was a pilot also and while taking off , all of the sudden his feet were next to my head, the front rollers were not in the track. luckily he didn't grab the control column ,it thought me .And because I watched this I'm going to order me some seatcovers for the ol gal! Thank you.
Doing the Cessna Seat Shimmy to make sure the seat rail pin and the seat backs are lock has always part of my before engine start check list. I think it was one of the things a long ago instructor had added to her checks, and it's just carried forward through all the Pipers and Cessna's I've flown. I even have had my wife and daughter do the shimmy in the right seat because that side can kill you as easy as the left. No issues in flight fortunately, the seat shimmy check has caught a seat pin not being fully set though. This reminds me to have a check of sorts for the back seat to since someone could grab the front seats if their seat has a problem. Hmm...
The year that I stopped to talk to you at Oshkosh, one of the Stinson's that landed in our group had the seat back break just at the end of the landing roll. Good thing it was the Co-pilots seat back that broke. BTW if you own a Cessna there is a handy tool to check the wear of the seat tracks. It's a Go-No Go gauge. I believe Mcfarlane carries it.
Glad you put the 'head rest' back on them; kind of a misnomer to say 'rest' when they are designed to keep your neck from being broken in an impact (reflection).
Chris, I'd just gotten over my PTSD from redoing the interior in my Comanche a couple of years ago, but now it's back. Thanks for that:-) I used Airtex ( these guys didn't have stuff for a PA24) and wow was it a ton of work. More than I ever expected. But the result was so worth it.
It’s a good thing to make sure your rails are clean and everything underneath mechanically is well lubed I’ve had an incident before where it they thought it was latched, but the whole thing slipped all the way back to the very back seat, Ness with all the landing always keep your compartment, clean of dirt and debris
My bony little 110lb ass can tell real quick how much fun a trip will be by looking at the seats. Even my toilets have the cushion seats. Great ideas and all the best to both of you.
I was taking off in a Mooney when at rotation the seat pushed all the way back luckily the person in the right seat was an experienced pilot of grabbed the controls before something bad happened definitely a scary thing if you are solo
Had the stop pin disengage on take off (Still on the ground). But yeah you take for granted what seats actually do, or can do when they fail. Luckily it grabbed the next hole and stopped, but I was already at a weird position to fly comfortably. Now I think if I were alone how would I handle that and fly, especially in a critical phase. Good PSA and looks like a great place to get your seats checked / refurbished.
I have a new to me 56’ 172 after a few new instruments seats are next. That yellow crumbling foam is all too familiar. I like your flooring what is the brand. I want to get rid of the carpet and make mine more utilitarian
Seats can be a real risk if not properly maintained. Many of these seats are just articulate Aluminum Lawn Chairs and we all know how often those break. Others are Mini tube air frame construction. Either way they need maintenance.
I had a seat structure catastrophically fail in one of the braces. It resulted in the front seat rails detaching after the structure deformed. The seat rotated backward like a recliner, with the seat-stop acting as the pivot. It happened as I taxied away from the fuel pit. This was right in the middle of a long day towing gliders. I doubt I could have recovered if it was on takeoff. Could have been fatal for me and the glider pilot.
I had my seat turn into a recliner when the front guides came off the rail. New student was struggling with taxi, almost put us in the grass so when I stomped on the brakes it derailed!
not a pilot (yet ?) but I understand one human reflex - If we are falling, we grab to anything in reach. So if yours seat back get loose on takeoff, you will grab the controls and pull on them. Thats just in human nature. Same goes for both pilot and co-pilot/passenger. Maybe item to passenger breafing? Thanks for video.
Being an old aircraft. The seats would have been made of heavier material then that of today. The new seats should weigh less then the old ones. Better options from the new ones. Better performance from the plane with lighter seat. MTOW would be better.
Hi, Very impressive workmanship. What’s the legality doing this work in the US? Does it need an A & P sign-off? Thanks, I’m enjoying following your channel.
Idk man. I once preflighted an ol 172 while a student for the first time (i fly lsa but the wind was a bit much so he told me to try out the Cessna for fun?.) I couldn't get the seat to latch in place. Plane had to be about a '55 or so. Coming off a flight design full glass ctls 😅. He told me me not to worry about it 🚩🚩🚩 Thank God I was not flying solo my seat shot 3 feet back on takeoff not sure I'll ever fly one again 😢
How much does it cost to get a PPL? I’m 22 and currently trying to save. I understand it costs about £8,000-£12,000? Can I start flying with an instructor on day one or is there a lot of theory to be done first for something like the first week? Angle of attack could you help please :)
People like Mario are what I love about aviation. Experienced, more than willing to help others.

I’d love to know the weight difference on the new and old seats.
I was thinking the same thing... and wondering how many lbs of old seat (and farts) are in old seats.

Those guys are craftsmen.
Ton of work and they are beautiful.
Thanks for shining light on an often overlooked part of aircraft upgrades.
So many people film their vids with phones so I really appreciate the nice Camera!
Yes! Your videos are always good. This one is at the top. It makes me want to take off my cushion and check my seats.

Great video, appreciate you featuring these businesses.
Had a broken back to my left seat in a 78' Piper Arrow. These older planes need love and care. Always inspect.
Wow, this video really did open my eyes. Keep up the good work.😎👍🏻
Yes seats that are structuraly sound is important, especially on our fleet of aircraft That are half a century or more old.
Very great video. Thank you for all the hard work!
Chris, you continue to inspire me! 44t is a 62' she needs love in the seat department.
Josh’s (Aviation 101) seat sliding back when Chelsea was landing at AirVenture 2022 scared me.

😮wow. They look great. Congrats on getting that done.

That’s pretty wild that happened!
@@angleofattack Yeah, They also had a brake lock up on them as well. Not a good day for them.
Looks like a quality shop for aircraft upholstery...attention to detail and owner involvement...
This is the good time to re inspect the 4 seat rails for wear and cracks. some models have an AD for this as well.
Glad you put the 'head rest' back on them; kind of a misnomer to say 'rest' when they are designed to keep your neck from being broken in an impact (reflection).
Man more people need to know about seat failures Nice video!
Legendary 🫡
Fantastic review of seating issues AND a great company. Nice job!

Mario and his brother did my seats. They're great.
Awesome!
Great video Chris. I love seeing these up grades. Of course at some point watching these will eventually cost me money. 🤣🤣
Seats look great Chris, stoked to see them in the airplane. A question for you, what is the song in the beginning of your videos?

What is a good beginners headset? Any recommendations

Can you tell me about the diamondplate floors you have? That looks really clean and durable I like it a lot more then the carpet
Chris can you demo the RNAV27 approach at KBVU? It's offset by 20degrees and its put my trust in gps approaches in question???
has Serina got her licence yet and this is also an Awesome topic about seats yah on those long trips need comfort
Nice Video! What was the final weight savings/loss? Did you have to mod/repair your rails in the airplane? Thanks.
I have a PA-22 and interested in getting mine done. How much was the cost in getting yours done?

Nice upholstery, enjoy the comfort of high density foam.

🤣🤣 I like that Sir ( Your Derrière !!! ) Yes Sir, Seat are very important ( I'm an Ex-ALSE 👌👍😇) OUTSTANDING INFORMATIVE VIDEO SIR Cheers 😇👍👌🍻
ha ha... "if a butt could 'crack' a smile" lol
Make Color of your sit grey like cover I mean steel or metal.
why is the tail so low to the ground?
Wish they made seats for Grumman AA-5 models! I'd order some in a heartbeat for my AA-5B!
Ask them! They make all sorts of models.
