  • [HD1080p] During the 2011 pre-Broadway Seattle try-out of "Aladdin," the opening number, "Arabian Nights," was led by Babkak (Brian Gonzales), Kassim (Brandon O'Neill), and Omar (Andrew Keenan-Bolger). The vaudeville edge that shows up in the final version of the show now and then is a lot more cohesive with this opening.

I would seriously give ANYTHING to see the full thing. I’m kind of an Aladdin fanatic. Seriously name your price :)

I was there! The audience went berserk after "Arabian Nights" & James Monroe Engelhard's "A Friend Like Me."

Perhaps there is a stirring taste of "...Forum" in opening number? "Comedy Tonight" ingratiates the audience in similar slapstick invitation.
Darn it, ya've spurred a mash-up ear worm. Now i wanna hear Nathan Lane sing "One Jump Ahead."
    Peace be with ye...Lukerdog

The problem is, they removed the more comedic meta elements like this but didn't overhaul the entire production. The old fashioned design, with the painted drops and vaudeville styled front cloth scenes are a part of the original concept. They are really charming when coupled with the intended style of the try-out but when the show went for a more cookie cutter, traditional approach the set seemed cheap and at odds with the performance. I mean, the show made a fuck load of money so it doesn't matter but artistically it was a mess
