I am doing a project on Elizabeth Freeman. This video was informative and impactful both for my project and expanding my knowledge on the importance of Freeman's life and legacy. Thank you!
That was a great show- everyone really breathed life into Elizabeth Freeman. There's a whole cohort of pre-American Revolution colonial African women & men who are the bedrock of the civil rights movement. Unfortunately, most Americans collective memory on civil rights only goes to the 60s. Hopefully there will be greater collaboration among the various Black History trails/orgs in promoting this history. It's a real loss to New England that there's not a tourism program in place to promote Black History. We need a version of the Cape Cod guide or Green Book that shows all the great Black history sites & trails in Massachusetts. That way people can learn vital American history and also bring tourist dollars to the state.
This is great information. I just recently learned of Elizabeth Freeman from my recent visit to the NAAM. I was drawn to her. In the life size bronze statue of her, she is holding something in her left hand. Do you have any idea what it is?
