I was 4 when I saw this on Eurovision, never to hear it again. I fell in love with the song but my parents didn't know what I was talking about, so I always kept the song close to my heart, because at 4 years old, it made me extremely happy - I've always loved music. Now, I am 36. Watching Eurovision tonight, there was a clip of the song, I jumped up, told my husband "OMG, that's THE SONG!!". Over 30 years took me to find this damn song. So, here I am. It still makes me happy!!!!
That's exactly what happened to me with ABBA:s take a chance on me. I heard it as a toddler, but I only remember the classic Cynth session, then I got up to my teens or so and found it. That feeling is something... This song is happier though ^^
I was deaf for the first few years after birth in the early 80's and this was one of the first songs I ever heard and would constantly have this looping all day long as a toddler. This and a few abba songs.
OMG! This is so dated now! I loved this band when I was a kid. I met Mike Nolan (he lived near me) and he signed my Bucks Fizz album (it was a cassette!!!) Probably still one of the best Eurovision songs though. They deserved to win. Classic 80's.
A huge Happy 40th Anniversary guys ..thank you for such wonderful times... Forever indebted for fabulous pieces of the action over here in Oz over the last 40 years ..Congrats to each of you for making so many memorable moments with such melodic uplifting music for so many fans in so many countries ......your Golden days are not over yet
TONY WOGAN LOOKS SMART ,THE SONG THAT MAKE THEM FAMOUS THE COLOUR COORDINATION AND THE DANCE WENT DOWN WELL ,DONE UK PROUD WE NEED ANOTHER WINNER IN THE EUROVISION
+Dallas Batman The Freemasons in charge won't allow good songs like this anymore on the radio unfortunately. Yes these songs are much better and had lots of words and melody and a story to each song, not just repetition.
Just Great, I watched this the first time it was on Eurovision in 1981. Am still watching it now all these years later!! A true classic moment.Thank You Buck Fizz.
***** And now we have Eurovision, which is appreciated all around the world, especially in Australia. I only got colour TV in 1975. Still a good song tho :)
Terry Fry Song for Europe hosted by Terry Wogan was how the UK....well the BBC picked the UK's Eurovision entry. The BBC still picks the UK song, but with less success nowadays. Maybe the BBC should go big time on the primary colours and mullet-up future UK's entries?
Bucks fizz making your mind up great song from the eighties bring back memories hearing this song classic tune from them makes me laugh and smile when I here this song great music
I'm from the Netherlands, when I was in the 8th class (for me it's 5 years ago), we made a musical. me and 5 other people danced on this song, and the audience loved it!
I remember seeing this song live even though I was young at the time. Jay, Cheryl, Bobby and Mike rose to prominence as members of Bucks Fizz in 1981 and this was the song I liked.
Cor - the things one finds on RUclips! I can just about remember watching this 29 years ago and hoping it would win, going out and buying the 7" single... thanks for posting this on here!
Great group. Always liked them. Bobby Used to be in my year at school. Nice chap, quite unassuming pleasant guy, never any problems. Best of luck to him: Regards Chris 'Omlette', Old class mate of Steve War***. All aged 61 now :(
@@hanno-erdmanntietz8424 I know the problem we have and its primarily the BBC not taking it seriously or possibly deliberately failing it to push us away from europe. There is also the issue of toxicity that may have been the result of Terry Wogan's drunken rants in the 2000s that turned opinion here against eurovision. It boils my blood when people blame it all on excuses such as Brexit, everyone hates us and block voting. In reality we send mostly trash songs.
Such wonderful memories of Sir Terry Wogan on this show and when the contest was not a 'vote for your neighbours' show. R.I.P. Terry. You may be gone but you are not forgotten.
Especially during the "cold war" the Grand prix Eurovision de la Chanson was highly political. Otherwise Nicole would never have won in 1982 with her horrible song "Ein bißchen Frieden".
Not your neighbours like.... Ireland? and former colonie like Malta and now Australia, right? Because you get angry when they do not give you douze points.
I remember watching this when I was growing up. In 1981 I moved from junior to senior school. This came out before my eleventh birthday so months prior to leaving juniors. The tune is initially in G major, then Ab and finally A major.
Wonder if they put this on BBC1 during Brexit? And afterward, another Fizz song, "Love In a World Gone Mad"? Come to think of it, "The Land of Make Believe" would fit as well. Good luck to y'all over there.
Not my kind of music but I can at least admit that for a Eurovision song it's perfect. Stands the test of time too because the melody is faultless. Now to see if there's a punk cover...
I went to Butlins Minehead in 1981 with my School when i was 10. We were supposed to do Abseiling but was cancelled due to rain. We had choice of either written work or disco dancing in the Ballroom. I opted for Disco dancing. 2 songs we had to learn were "(Do) The Hucklebuck" by Coast To Coast and Making Your Mind Up by Bucks Fizz. Good call! Ive never lost it since. ;-)
I would have been not yet eleven and in my last year at junior school, so six years older than you, Amanda. Remember the song well and have a very good memory for tunes!
As a young teenager at the time I was quite excited by Cheryl Baker having her skirt ripped off, only to be disappointed to see a shorter skirt hidden underneath.
Yes. Probably 'Sun-In' which was basically neat peroxide. I 'streaked' my dark hair with it. The 'streaks' simply went ginger. So I tried to cover it with a Clairol black hair colour. I actually rather liked the Bachelor's Mushy Pea colour I was left with. My head teacher was less impressed & promptly suspended me til the following Monday. Happy Days!
This is from the year I was born. I've heard the song before and briefly seen parts of this performance but this was the first time for me seeing the whole performance. I sat here in my chair following the dance moves, couldn't help myself lol 😂😂
at the 50 birthday of my godmother I had with my buddy and make the song the dancing! that was so bad! mainly because it was so embarrassing! and therefor had to find when we do the whole dance and then dance something from fleetwood mac ....

Fun Coincidence yesterday the eurovision 2022 when Ukraine 🇺🇦 🏆 won (and their war at the same time)
That's exactly what happened to me with ABBA:s take a chance on me. I heard it as a toddler, but I only remember the classic Cynth session, then I got up to my teens or so and found it. That feeling is something...

What a terrific song. Great energy. A very deserving winner.
@Matter Do OK well, great energy. Maybe.
I clearly hear the remnants of the 60's & 70's in this song. Simple and clean. Pure excellence.
The quintessence of Eurovision. Fresh, catchy, bubbly and utter pants.
I saw them win the Eurovision Contest in 81! Well, I saw it on TV. I've always loved it!
Terry Wogan miss you! Gosh How this song brings back memories of my childhood ! Love it!

love Cheryl so bright and breezy in a non lesbian way !😀

yes its very ABBA but I love it :-)
Now this is a brillint song loves it
They were and still are so talented , joyful and positive persons , sunshine at home with 'em !!
im single and alone at 44 years old and this song still makes me happy too :)
Perfect Song and the Dance Moves are really good, What a great Group this was Really Catchy Tunes.
Best Eurovision song ever.
Simon Saunders it’s a great song but it’s not up there with classics like Brotherhood of Man or ABBA
@@philscott8158 Or the New Seekers which came 2nd in 1972. Beg Steal or Borrow is a far better song.
I love how they all wear different-coloured shirts. It reminds me of the kids' shows we all know and loved.
I love how cute they all were. Mike was totally on fire, he was everywhere except in the ceiling... Or maybe he was there as well, off camera ^^
I have this song stuck in my head non stop for 2 weeks now and even the dance...
What a great song back in the 70à
Not the 70's.

fair enough
Damn 7 years, Sips
You really are a boomer.
why was Sips here? I could be asking myself the same question
now this takes me back I watched the eurovision jumped up when we won still love this song to this day
I couldn't complain about the weather in an orderly que while drinking tea and be more British than this - brilliant.
Of the three versions I have heard... this one, the album single cut, and the performance at Eurovision, this one is by far the best
WARDMAN3 this is eurovision...
@@nm-yuki-p no its not - its the BBC show A Song For Europe. The ESC performance is also on YT somewhere.

A bit like the beginning of La La Land. I thought the WIggles were about to appear.
Bucks fizz are power rangers. Confirmed.
they were like a poor mans ABBA in a way...based on the fact there was 2 guys & 2 girls...& that they made catchy pop tunes...thats where it ends tho
1981........ was a special year for me indeed........... (but why I will not tell..) ...... nice song... love the energy of it....
Why? Please tell.

its just so damn entertaining this, even seeing it for the first time in 2012.

Still getting played in 2015, in the lead up to Eurovision
Nice catchy tune. I always think of a friend from long ago who was mad on this band.
School disco music haha, the memories. I was only 5 when this was out.
Great song
R.IP Terry Wogan
It's just not the same without him. (Not a big fan of Graham Norton...)
I like Graham ..... but he is not Terry
Graham is too sardonic and cynical, and lacks the Wogan charm. That's just me though.
Ah sure...
How could this have been 36 years ago? To think how the world (and eurovision) changed in the blink of an eye.
When music was music and music TV really was music TV
I watched this live and cheered as we(the UK) won the euro vision that night.....I was 9 my sister was 12....great memories. ..
I am between you both in age, as not yet eleven and in my last year at junior school. Remember the song well and turn 53 in June!
Fantastic!!! I love this song!!
I had almost forgotten how lovely Cheryl was in those days!
she still is!!!!!!!!

I think the harmonys are beautifull spot on infact their voices blend very well.
The song starts in G major, then Ab and finishes in A major. This from an amateur string player in an orchestra with perfect pitch!
eurovision is not the same without terry wogan
