Sorry just out of this matter, is that monitor 49"? Is it worth the extra lenght or is this giving more that vertical space is much shorter than usual? Very nice presets by the way.
I love this! What is that small cockpit HUD-style center screen with the metering on it? Is that something custom? Which metering plugin are you running on it? I love that! Would love to add it to my setup. Amazing setup, by the way!
Well designed, ear-pleasing, and inspirational sounds - I'll give them that. However, the fundamental problem with all sequences and arpeggios is that they are locked to either minor or major scale, and by extension, being useless out of the box for production. It's not Synapse's fault, as everyone else's synth suffers from the same issue. Back in a day, the only company that cleverly overcame this problem was, I believe, Casio. They designed a keyboard tracking algorithm that allowed to switch the scale in real-time while playing the keyboard in a very specific way. Wish soft-synths had this feature today.
Interesting suggestion- do you remember which Casio synth that was specifically? Also note our synth Dune 1 had a "dynamic" arp mode where you could change scales on the fly while playing. The mode was not that popular though to be honest. Perhaps the main issue with realtime auto-correction or scale changes is simply that it confuses some users. About using sequences for actual productions, quite a few sequences included in our plugins have been used out of the box in hit records. It all depends on the context and style of music. For example, in hip hop you may never need to change the scale or pitch at all.
@@synapseaudio2488 Unfortunately, I don't remeber the model number of that Casio. It's been 30-some years since then. It wasn't anything pro at all, more of a toy I'd say. I do, however, remember how it worked. Any single key pressed, white or black, would generate major pattern in the root of that key. Now, doing the same, but simultaneously pressing the first available, the closest black key to the right (might have been to the left... memory not as good as it used to be) of the "root" key would generate a minor pattern. I think adding yet another black to the right would generate a 7th chord, though I might be wrong. Like I said, it's been some time since then. Still, while this particular method had nothing to do with the proper chord structure and it did have its limitations, it was a super easy and quick way to use the preprogrammed patterns to play any song by literally anyone, regardless of their keyboard-playing skills. I've never seen this method utilized since, in hardware or software, but I think it's worth resurecting. Hope this gives the proverbial "Eureka!" moment. :)
@@AntiDot70 That is interesting, it is loosely similar to what we did in Dune 1's "Dynamic" mode. This allowed the sound designer to mark certain notes as "dynamic", such that you could do exactly what you describe - turn a minor sequence into major or vice versa, among other stuff. Ocassionally we dabble with other ideas that change the sequences in realtime depending on which keys you press, but so far we have not found the holy grail yet. Each approach seems to have certain drawbacks that are hard to overcome. Mostly the user needs to learn/practice the system to some degree, in order to get the most out of it.
@@synapseaudio2488 I don't disagree that learing how to use and program the synth does go along way, but this in itself, is also a flawed approach. Not everyone is willing to be a programmer and sound designer. Some of us here are perfectly fine using the presets right out of the box. Let's face it - the presets is also what sells the product. This has been the case for decades. Now, if I'm sold on a particular preset and quickly find out that in order to use it in a song, literally any song, I have to learn how to reprogram the pattern and have two instances of the synth for a major and minor chord tracks separately, I'd probably not use it at all. When inspiration hits you, there is no time to spend fiddling on something that should have been incorporated into the software right from the start. It's like buying a brand new car, just to find out it can only turn to the right. For the left turns you need to change the steering column, but then, it won't make the right turns anymore. I really wish the developers had bit more insight into musician's mindset, and not just the sound designer's approach. Anyway... hope you make something of this, as I really do think your synths and sounds are second to none!
@@AntiDot70 You are completely right, however I was talking about something different. When there is realtime auto-correction or scale changing in place, it is not obvious to all keyboard players how to use such a feature properly. Some keyboard players get confused by it, especially if the system is very powerful/flexible and allows changing a given sequence in many different ways, in realtime. That's what I meant by learning how to use such a feature. I was not talking about learning how to program a synth, that is an entirely different matter. I fully agree with you here that not everybody should have to learn a synth in great detail to get somewhere. This is why we like to put lots of modulating controllers (Modwheel, Aftertouch, Velocity, sometimes even Breath, Expression, etc.) into our presets, to make them flexible out of the box without any sound design skills required.
