  • Today we bring you what not long ago was the oldest of the Redbreast core range. The 21 is the classic pot still irish combining sherry and bourbon casks. Coming in at a respectable 46% it's an exciting bottle to bring you.

    I feel like Redbreast 21 is the gold standard for the Redbreast lineup. The 27 is amazing in its own right, but at nearly twice the price, I'd rather just have two bottles of 21. Fantastic pour.

    Sounds delicious. Like Dustin, I don't take chances with Irish whisky, only because I don't have a lot of experience. I've had 4 RB expressions and liked them all. A couple Spots and so far so good. Glad to know the new packaging has not suffered. I find that the nose is most often better than the palate to me. Great review.

    Lucky for me I scored an incredible deal on this stuff a few years back (under $200 Canadian all in) and stocked up, also stocked up on the Irishman 17 (even cheaper) , both are incredible, Those deals are long gone, did a back to back and the Redbreast has the slightly better nose but the Irishman wins on the palette possibly because of the much higher abv. I've got both bottles open and nearby for the holidays and they can actually compete with any scotch, amazing stuff, liquid Christmas Cake (homemade dark) in a glencairn. Merry Christmas

    A few years ago, I had a Redbreast 12 and it was pretty good. Recently, I picked up another bottle and it was super disappointing. I have not touched the bottle after a few nights. I wonder if all Redbreast variations have such huge differences from one year to another.

    • @topshelfdustin3060
      @topshelfdustin3060 Год назад +1

      I've had some pretty bad batches of the 12 CS, but regular products I haven't heard of that much batch variation. One thing to wonder about though....sometimes it's the whisky. Sometimes it's us just changing what we expect.

    Thanks again for an excellent review guys. I purchased my bottle of the new Redbreast 21 over Thanksgiving. I managed to find it for $300. I can't wait to open it. I haven't had the 21 before. Cheers, and happy holidays and New Year!
    Unrelated to Redbreast. Have you guys managed to get your hands on the 2022 Springbank 25 yr yet? I just bought it yesterday. It's the first time I've ever seen one. So I bought it in a heartbeat...lol (reasonable price). It's apparently 60/40 between sherry and bourbon. I couldn't wait, so I poured a little dram last night along with the incredible 2021 18 yr. So from the neck pour, it seems like it will be an amped up version of the delicious 2021 18 yr. I can't wait to see how this 25 opens up. I hope that you guys get to try it too.

      You can find single casks (store picks) for less, but those are such different experiences. The standard offerings from kavalan are 400+ however.

    Is there color added to the 21?

    • @topshelfdustin3060
      @topshelfdustin3060 Год назад

      I can't find anything hard, but given they don't state it's natural color, I suppose we have to assume the 21 could have some. Certainly seems unneeded given the age and use of quality sherry casks, but the 12 CS I believe is the only one that clearly states natural color.
