growing up my family and i weren't rich, but we weren't that poor either. still we had to ration our meals so that each family member was fed. there's this dish that i love so much called 'satay', back then we could only afford to buy only 10 pieces max, and there were 5 of us so we got 2 pieces of satay each, and we ate them with rice for dinner. i didn't mind at all but i still wished that i could eat more satay. fast forward to years later, i was in college and one night i was alone in my dorm room feeling homesick. i hadn't had dinner and suddenly i had this thought to buy satay, so i bought 20 pieces of satay and ate them alone with tears streaming down my face. truly a 'dream' come true for my younger self, and i wished my family was there with me

One day, when I was in college, second year I remembered how much loved it and ordered a two pound cake for myself. I told them to write "Mine" on it to not seem weird, but it was kinda true too. Ate it in two sittings. Never had a tastier cake since then

We were a family of 6, my dad would bought 20pcs of satay to eat for the whole family and we would fight over who gets to have 3 or 4 for themselves. As a kid I was the same way. My mom would get so mad at my dad because we'd go out to Golden Corral (this was in the 80's when Golden Corral was good) & I'd eat nothing but plate after plate of fruit & cheese, my dad let me but my mom was determined to make me eat meat & vegetables. I don't know why I don't eat a lot of fruit now, but I still eat way too much cheese! 😂

My grandparents had been together for 55 years when she past in April of this year. They had a very tumultuous marriage but my grandma made the meal rules. When she died, my grandpa had now been alone for the time since he was 20 years old. Sure, he mourned of course because even when you’re not “in love” and your partner has been self destructive and neglectful of their own health for so many decades that you become their care taker day in and day out, you still love them. He came to the realization that he could now eat whenever he felt like it and whatever he felt like with no regard for the meal structure his wife has staunchly upheld their entire life. My grandpa ate breakfast food for dinner for a couple weeks straight and relished in the adult freedom as a 75 year old man.
I honestly do not think its worth it. One Tiny egg could become a whole fish if you put them back. It is resourceful if they where gathered by accident and its too late but creating a market for it makes me sad.
