    Great video. Only one thing I saw to note. Clerics can take heavy armor with no chance of spell failure. The spell failure penalty only applies to Arcane spell casters and not Divine.

    I’m loving these videos, so very helpful. I’ve suffered with restartitis when it comes to P:K and I think I’ve finally decided to go for a cleric. Thanks Ranger Tony 👍🏻

    I think your channel needs more subs to become visible to the general comunity, your guides are actually the best for this game if you are completely new to these kind of games. Very informative, I myself was hoping for an rpg like this for a long time, didnt like most of them since Baldurs Gate 1&2 etc. Coming back to it, I was completely lost in this game, not going to lie. Your guides actually help me starting to understand these things again. I am grateful for that, keep it up please.

    Great video. I tend to build my clerics as a bit more of a backliner with a crossbow but I may have to try a tanky build. One change I would probably make is to take at least 1 metamagic feat, probably extend or heighten. Its really handy to be able to upshift spells into some of the more situational levels. Archon's Aura from third level spells is particularly good for a cleric who is going to be in melee range and I always try to keep at least 1 Heightened to my best spell level.
    I do like to try and get 13 Charisma for Selective Channeling but it's not really necessary you just have to channel energy outside of combat. With the dwarf's -2 you would have to spend a lot of points to get it up to 13, though i guess a +4 or +6 mental perfection helmet can help you get there later into the game.

    Clerics don't have to worry about spell failure that is only for arcane casters

      Yeah, I don't see a reason not to specialize in Heavy Armor. Only negatives I can think of are carry weight and speed and the Dwarf Racial totally negates those. Slow And Steady: Dwarfs have a base speed of 20 ft., but their speed is never modified by their armor or by encumbrance.

    Very new to your channel I really like your solid explanations of the classes, among the best online.
    Thanks for making this rather daunting system understandable.

    The thing you do extremely well imo is that you explain things in laymans term for players like me who hasnt touched the game. While other channels go indepth on the build (you do as well of course) you consider the fact that some of your viewers are new and are probably just looking for a fun build.
    I hope you keep doing what you do! May I ask do you also have a sword and board kind of tanky kind of DPS fighter?

    • @rangertony
      @rangertony  3 года назад +1

      I have a couple you might consider
      The Aldori Defender build if a Fighter Subclass the only problem is that they cannot use a shield to get their full abilities.
      Another option would be the Kinetic Knight. It is not a simple Sword and Board, but you are using a "sword" and can use a shield and heavy armors. You can be some of the highest DPS in the game if you choose the right feats.
      I have builds for both of these. They should be easy to search for.

    I think str is more useful than con if you don't want your cleric just stand around when run out channeling heal and want to reserve your other spells to maybe convert them to hela as well if it needed so I recently found out that a crusader cleric can have with a magic domain a range attack with a melee weapon adding his/her wisdom modifier to the attack roll and str as the damage roll. That lets you ignore his/her dex and use heavy armor. Furthermore magic domain has a god who favour quterstaff so basicly you have a range weapon dealing blunt damage and when you ran out of daily uses of your spell liek ability it still functions as a reach weapon you can use behind your tank in the second row.

    Your videos help make this game playable as I'm finding it to be a brutal game. I have 2 requests or suggestions. I never know which spells to use and which ones work best. As you level up your characters in your videos, it would be helpful to people like me if you also showed what spells you select at each level. Also, I want to play as a druid, could you do one on the various sub-classes of a druid? Thanks again for the invaluable help.

    Ok, I know this means to be an introductory video and base cleric build. Still, I think telling people that a cleric's main job is healing is the biggest harm one can do to this class. Yes - clerics have probably the best tools for healing among all classes, but healing is far from being their primary task. Healing in battle is generally inefficient - one can't outheal the damage coming from the enemies anyway. Healing should be preferably done out of combat, and one should use wands or scrolls for it, and not waste spell slots. Of course, there will be situations where healing in battle will be necessary, but as a rule of thumb, one should rather invest resources in avoiding damage than healing it. Hence, a base cleric should be presented rather as a supporting class, but not as a healing class. And clerics do have a huge arsenal of support spells - buffing allies or debuffing enemies. The problem with this game in particular is that many of the best cleric's spells from table-top Pathfinder haven't got into the computer version of the game, and at the same time, there is a plethora of spells in the game, that are... meh... to say the least. And honestly... I think even in table-top Pathfinder some classes are superior to clerics in the support department - bards come to my mind instantly. This doesn't mean clerics are bad. But they are not as good as some other classes. In exchange, they are quite versatile meaning they can excel at many tasks, depending on how you build them - not every cleric has to be a 'base cleric'. Unfortunately, I would say that in the computer version of the game, they are just good scroll users. Many of the spells on the cleric list are situational - like removing sickness, a curse and so on. Those are probably the spells you don't want to have prepared all the time. But clerics can cast them from scrolls without a need for a skill check in Use Magic Device. True be told, a bard with a high skill score in Use Magic Device can fulfil this role too. People tend to say that domains are what makes clerics powerful as a class. Of course, this goes mostly to a few chosen domains. Still, powers granted by those domains have limited uses - I mean, while sometimes powerful indeed, those are not abilities one will be using every encounter. They are useful for boss fights or some environmental challenges here and there. So I again would say, some other classes are all around better in my opinion. Said this, I like this class conceptually, and I think it can be fun to play if one is aware of its drawbacks and can accept them.

    Hi, i know i am late to the party but i would like to thank you for all these in depth videos.
    Is there an easy way to tell whether armor will affect a characters spellcasting?
    Like for example does a cleric use "arcane" magic, oder "divine" magic, thus not being affected by arcane penalties from armor?
    Another question - I have seen you talk in other videos about "ray" spells.
    Is there any way to tell whether a spell is ray besides using it in combat and checking the roll in the log to see the source of the damage?

    • @rangertony
      @rangertony  3 года назад +2

      It will tell you in the Class definition which types of armor the class is allowed to use.
      And in the spell description it will tell you if it is a Ray or not.

    I tried to make a build bit like this for a mercenary character and dumped his charisma just to realize that he Is not getting any Channel Positive Energy. Well I am a true newbie with pathfinder mechanics but just to know for other newcomers that charisma is needed to get mass/aoe healing spells :D

    • @tjv2446
      @tjv2446 3 года назад

      Yeah - this build by Ranger Tony would be better if he got some Cha. Clerics are MAD (Multi Attribute Dependent) meaning you should focus on attribute spread instead of attribute specialisation.
      I’m going to play again as a Cleric of Erastil with a focus on longbows and channeling positive energy.

      If you have not picked a class that uses Charisma as a primary attribute then the only use for Charisma is the Persuasion and Use Magic Devices skills. Like all skills these are nice to have but if the campaign is designed well then no skill should be "essential" for completion, i.e. there should not be a Persuasion check that is PASS/FAIL for the successful completion of the main campaign.
      The only other use for charisma is roll play, which is a personal choice

    I planned to build a crusader but read somewhere that they get 1 less spell to memorize for each level is that true ? It is not stated in the game I guess.

    • @rangertony
      @rangertony  3 года назад +2

      The default Cleric gets 2 domains to select spells from, but the Crusader only gets one domain. This will result in one less spell available per day per spell level
