Absolutely. It is also known as "Around the Bay in One Crazy Day". Get a myKi card, which will cost A$ 6. Start at Southern Cross Station in Melbourne and head by VLine train to Geelong. Explore the town within 1 hour max. and then catch the 56 Bus to Queenscliff via Point Lonsdale. The Searoad Ferry will get you across to Sorrento every hour. In Sorrento get unto the 688 Bus to Frankston, changing to the Metro Train which will get you back to Melbourne CBD, Flinders Street Station. Either that train or another line will give you the link back to the Southern Cross Station. Otherwise the 70 tram will be an alternative. The maximum ptv fare for the day will be A$ 10.60. Searoad Ferry is not included. They will set you back by A$ 17 on site, A$ 16 if booked online in advance. No guarantee on connections. Check all timetables on the ptv website before heading off.
The "Around Westernport Bay in One Crazy Day" Excursion, based on Dandenong Railway Station via Frankston, Stony Point, French Island and Philip Island is currently under construction. Like a lot of projects in Victoria (No Unions involved in this one ...). Is that "lap" BIG enough ...?
