    15:41 I have an advice for you. I've played as the USSR plentiful of times and it's better if you keep your paranoia at Max at 20 or below, cause then you won't get any non-scripted purge events. Just spam forge satisfactory reports when you're at 20 paranoia and then purge the navy and by that time, you should be able to continue with the main political path which will reduce the paranoia and set it to 0

    • @fuglbird
      @fuglbird 5 месяцев назад +4

      I agree. Ignoring paranoia like Hammo is too risky. Normally forging reports and inspecting the navy is not enough. You need to use the focus options to avoid random purges.
      Also, select your production carefully. Don't just tick what you "may need later" but use the proper ratios for the troops you want to train early on. Add more trucks and support equipment because it will not be outdated like other equipment.

    • @chernoblyat.152

      @@fuglbird ikr, but I don't think that a 70 day focus is worth it for -10 paranoia, so I usually purge the navy, airforce (if I really have no other choice) and forge satisfactory reports.

    • @bodigames
      @bodigames 3 месяца назад +1

    I remember that when the No Step Back came out my strategy as the Soviet Union was simple, much like the Russian strategy during the war with Napoleon:
    Give up some territory without a fight, stretch the supply line and take the Axis blow on the Dnieper-Dzhvina line. In the end, I was able to defeat the Axis in 1944-1945. Yesterday I was playing the Soviet Union and, watching your video, I thought to myself that in the early stages of the war it was better to field 120 divisions on the Axis border to take the blow and exhaust the Axis armies so that the Axis would be incapable of conducting any offensive operations. However, it turned out that my 120 divisions were able to stop 200 Axis divisions and inflict 3 million losses on them (I lost 250,000-300,00), which resulted in the Reich losing all its manpower. What's more - I destroyed the German air force in the east, so I was able to launch a counter-offensive, which ended in Frankfurt and Hamburg. Germany capitulated in the second half of 1942. I could not even finish the national focus: "Lessons from the War".

    • @hammotimee
      @hammotimee  6 месяцев назад +5

      Post No Step Back with the supply system makes Germany VERY difficult to take out the Soviets. I also am a big believer in not giving up anything for free which will benefit the enemy. There's so many factories and resources in the area between the border and the Stalin line, I want it to cost the Germany player something to have it! Also makes it much easier for the allies when you whittle down their planes and manpower as you mentioned!

  • @brian6697

    One of my most memorable games was as Russia, I used the river in Western Russia as my defensive line and when the Germans attacked I was able to stop their attacks or push them back across if they broke through. Took awhile but I noticed their units were being bled dry in manpower and equipment so when I launched my counter offensive it was a blood bath after I routed the German army for some reason Britain and France declared war on me and I was able to defeat them eventually and then basically ended up in a war with everyone in europe down to the med and across to asia and I ended up annexing the entire map from Britain down to Italy over to Turkey then China Japan it was pretty epic and after that my new nation was just so overpowered with its resources, factories, manpower and equipment it was epic win

    Great guide. I however use R56 over vanilla. 1300 hours and only 4 achievements.
    I just finished WW2, now in Cold War. I took out Japan before Germany attacked and CCP joined Comintern. Seriously overpowered. Industry is up to 750+ factories, 24 mil manpower reserves with 6 in the field, only used 1 full army of tanks, so a lot of stockpiled tanks, not to mention the 1 mil + guns. I didn’t ignore navy but also didn’t use it either. What a game. It’s really crazy to go from these sort of numbers when loading up Old World Blues. I recently tried a „Human Wave“ Strategie as the Soviets.
    I tried to maximize my reinforce rate with Radio and Mass Assault and spammed 500 Division on the Frontline.
    As I had so many divisions constantly reinforcing they barely pushed me. And with a lot of manpower and equipment in Reserve I could very quickly go on the offensive.
    Capitulated Germany in early 43. Casualties surprisingly moderate with 3mio considering I literally went with the head into the wall.

    I usually like to play as if you’re trying to get the Not One Step Back achievement. Basically have at least 2 full army groups of infantry, the group of 11 tanks and 1 truck along the border (2 groups at the Hungary border) and lots of CAS and fighters in East Poland just allows you to win every battle as they grind against you until they’re so weakened that you can just steamroll your way to capitulating them (in all my runs the war ends at some point in late 1943) while losing like 2-3 tiles at most. This strategy also involves invading Turkey+Romania early so Romania’s not involved.
    Also in this strategy during advances in Poland I like to start in the North and work my way southwestwards from there rather than invade from the entire border because it’s much easier to fight in the North; that area is mostly plains while the South is mountainous.

    You should build infrastructure at the start on states that have steel, tungsten or high building capacity. You shouldn't build civs at the start because you have a debuff from civ economy. After you get infrastructure to 100% all buildings in that state build at 200% speed.

    Awesome ! Didn't missed a single video. USSR is my favourite country, but still cannot find answer about Northern Fleet. Is constantly in imminent repair, while trained or even going from A to B. Watched him only through 5 years : broken - getting repaired all time. Trained him at Black Sea, but on way back get broken again. I know that fleet is weakest point for Sovjet Union, but rest of fleets just fine, only Northern. Read and watched many guides, but no one even noticed about this glitch. i know, fleet is not necessary for SU during WW2, but you need fleet to conquer the world. Game is not only to beat poor germans all vs one . So far one possible solution - early invasion of Netherlands, moved base there and now i'm robbing convoys in Atlantic and no broken ships anymore. :)

    • @sld1776
      @sld1776 7 месяцев назад

      Ah! I can answer. The Baltic is a shallow sea. Accidents are vastly more likely in that sea terrain than in open oceans. You will lose a lot of naval IC as the Soviet Union because you don't have a single ocean sea zone in which to train.

    • @ericz8621

      @@sld1776 tried other countries with DLC on/off around Norway and Baltic shores. Same result - imminent repair,, once they entered waters. is this how developers favourising countries?
      As a Soviet Union , I can move my fleet somewhere else, leaving shores and convoys unprotected, but where move their fleet northern and baltic countries ? Well, there is one solution - early Netherlands invasion and use their ports, but that is not historic way. Even upgrading fleet to top level not solving issue. Or maybe I'm missing something aka focus, but even with completed navy focus result is same

      Yagoda (first advisor) gives you -5% stability, enemy op detection +0.10%, enemy op capture chance +5% and civ intel to others -5%. It also reduces political paranoia by a heap when you purge him.
      Yezhov (last advisor you end up with if you purge the previous two) gives you -10% stability, enemy op detection +0.10%, enemy op capture chance +10%, civ intel to others -10% and agency upgrade time -10%.
      You can make your own choices up from this, but you can easily get your stability back as the Soviets, getting up to 100% is pretty straightforward, and the other intel boosts are worth it imo, plus better to purge a spy officer than generals or other advisors!

    • @samgilbert5973
      @samgilbert5973 7 месяцев назад +3

      @hammotimee it is only 30, not really that much, and you save more by keeping him because he only gives 1 political paranoia a week where yezhov gives 2 a week while this may not sound like a lot more it really hurts you by giving you way more purge events idk if just don't want mess with the rng of the purges and you upgrade your agency by the end 38 if your bad and your so the upgrade agentcy 10% is pointless the only point kinda have 10% capture rate of spies and that is useful I will admit. I just personally hate rng of the soviet because my general get killed a lot. So, to its personal taste, do you want you 10% more capture spies or do want less purge events

    I also like to use a bit of diplomacy to maybe get the likes of Yugoslavia, Turkey or Romania on my side. Well, turns out in historical Romania will still flip on you... So maybe don't rely on that. I also don't always bother to annex the Baltics. But get them in your faction. That way you maybe care a bit less about that territory, shorten the frontline, and I haven't done the math but with about 10 divisions each, that is less troops you have to worry about controlling and equipping.
    Definitely getting popular support in Turkey has worked out well for me. Closes off the Bosporus, which won't stop Germany I suppose, but can mean Italy won't do naval invasions. Also if you win the Spanish Civil War they can join your faction midwar, and between Spain and Turkey they can really come through the back door and give Italy a hard time.

    My friends and I have been making an AI mod, and I have personally been using a few of your guides, as well as many others actually, for some time, mostly as the basis for human strategies to play against the AI (well, more like bots); so far, we have fixed some many different mistakes such as AI not defending the British home island, or France not getting rid of debuffs, for some of the more generic mistakes, and heavily upgraded their technological research priority as well.
    I know you would have plans, but I wish to formally ask if it would be possible for you to give the mod 1 or 2 games as Germany, and give me some feedback on how the AI could utilize their resources better in a way that a player such as yourself would do, and more importantly, is the mod fun at all?

I've been doing it a lot in my test games and against a fully strengthened Germany it's still the winner. I had a test roach game where I set 3 fallback lines staggered behind that river and relocated my tanks where needed and that works really well for me.

      @@tangystone436 I was talking about the purge of the high ranking officers of the RKKA (Red Army), not purges against the civilian population. Lots of competent RKKA officers (such as Tukhatshevsky) died in the purge and in the beginning of Winter War, almost whole RKKA was commanded by political commissars and outrageously incompetent fools. Even the civilian side suffered so much due to Stalins actions they were largely not justified though I understand his concerns for states/his own security and his fears that ethnic minorities could side with the Axis Powers in the war he knew was coming up.

      @Cybernaut76 Tukhatshevsky had it coming. Did you even see him stop clapping Stalin? Unforgivable!
