This is my favorite music video they ever did. Watching this in color is sad in a way. It struck me hard when Freddie got down on his knees how skinny he was. The fabric of his pants hugged his thigh and it was little more than bone. He was suffering and still worked and joked and carried on. Kept a stiff upper lip, as the Brits would say. Inspirational.
It’s my favourite music video, too. I love the theatrics, German Expressionism and Tim Burtonesque vibes, and Freddie is just an absolute gem! Love watching him in this. But yeah, it is pretty sad when you remember that this was filmed months before Freddie passed. And you really do see how tiny and frail Freddie is. God, everything about his AIDS is tragic.

I often wonder how they felt watching him do this? Freddie had told them about his diagnosis and then basically forget about it and the show goes on. They were and are simply amazing... I miss their tightly grouped family. Because we lost Freddie to his illness and John to his grief. Their music will live on.

All three of surviving members of Queen were devastated when Freddie passed away....John was said to be affected the most and retired soon after Freddie's death.
All of the members went through depression after his death, they were all effected just as hard yet handled it in different ways. John left music coz it wasn’t the same without Freddie.
He was devasted apparently as he looked up to Freddie as an older brother. Freddie gave him the confidence to write songs and took him under his wing. That's the reason behind him quitting the band after he died. He was quoted as saying "there is no Queen without Freddie".

I love the Live Aid concert in '85--probably the best 20 minute set a band ever had. I also love when they returned a year later and performed for nearly two hours--an absolute masterpiece, where Freddie's voice soared and the whole band was magic. Freddie and poor Roger had to have been exhausted afterward--two hours of playing their guts out for an adoring crowd. I also adore this video but for different reasons. The imagery is bittersweet and very purposeful, and his voice is still sublime. (and I can't get over the fact that he thinks he's a banana tree while eating a banana)

In video and film, they need to do multiple retakes. It pretty common. It’s to have different camera angles, and in the editing process they use the best bits from each take. Like I said, it’s a common thing that’s done. In some cases, they will do as many as 20+ retakes of the same scene.

Why why on earth did they make him give so many retakes for the crawling bit? He does a fab job in all of them so why not okay it in two takes?! He must have been in so much pain... RIP Freddie 😔
Yea I wondeted that.. but a lot of his friends said he was a real perfectionist so they let him take as much time as he wanted. A true Lover of Life. Singer of Songs!
In video and film, they need to do multiple retakes. It pretty common. It’s to have different camera angles, and in the editing process they use the best bits from each take. Like I said, it’s a common thing that’s done. In some cases, they will do as many as 20+ retakes of the same scene.
I’m sure it was Freddie who demanded nothing be changed and everything be perfect

At the 1:10ish mark is the penguin nipping poor Freddie...he gets up and moves away pretty quickly.

It appeared to me that Freddie moved away so quickly because the penguin pooped all over the seat...lol
