Thank you, Tyler. This one, is a mixed bag for me. Very innovative though. That's for sure. You say it does have bearings? I was hoping for bronze washers. 👍🔪🍺😎
I too prefer washers but it has the CQI bearings with bronze races. Agreed, it doesn't do much for me aesthetically but I dig the hollow grind, lock and deployment methods and the slim profile.
I got one. I wanted to hate it, but I end up carrying it more than anything else. Super compact, fun to fidget with, looks a bit rich/gentleman-like. The ergos aren’t ideal but I am used to them. My only complaint is the hollow grind blade is pretty bad at cutting harder objects like some harder foods and cardboard (doesn’t want to go through an apple)
Glad you like it! The Smock is a solid design but does have some drawbacks such as the deep hollow grind binding up in certain materials. Different tools for different tasks. Thanks for watching.
How secure are button locks compared to a liner lock? I’ve gotten a Kershaw Skyline currently, but someone at my rod and gun club said that they’ve had liner locks fail on them before and I might be looking for an upgrade.
I have used all manner of lock and can't say I've seen a liner lock fail under normal use. The Smock has a button operated Compression Lock (different than a liner lock or plunge/button lock) and is quite secure.
As soon as they are back in stock. It was highly anticipated and they have been a hot ticket item. Sign up for email notifications for when they are back in stock.
definitely not a thin blade stock. kind of ok but woulda been better as a full flat grind with a thinner blade stock. doesnt look slicey at all. prolly would have a hard time cutting an apple with it.
"Relatively thin" but you are correct, it will not excel at slicing things like apples or potatoes. For general use the hollow grind will cut well while retaining a good amount of strength thanks to the thickness at the spine. Hollow ground kitchen knives are much different from EDC hollow grinds.
Sits a bit too high in the pocket for my taste. A change in the pocket clip should take care of this...maybe Spyderco will put out a fix for this in the next run?
Unlikely. It does accept standard size Spyderco clips so I'd recommend a Lynch clip. www.gpknives.com/brands/casey-lynch-northwest-deep-carry-clips.html
@@Gpknives I checked out the link for the substitue pocket clips...all out of stock. But I wonder if the lanyard hole might get in the way of a true low pocket carry. Also, the price for me to buy an after market clip ($80.00 Cdn), added to the knife cost, puts the knife out of my price range?
Is that really a finger choil? Looks like a ridiculous sharpening notch.everything is perfect but what the hell happened to the heel of that blade? Maybe it had to be that way for the blade to close because of the stop pin? Don’t know but it’s a deal breaker for me personally.
I mention in the video that it is indeed for the stop pin. It doubles as a finger choil as well. Not for me either but "Different knives for different lives."
Similar feel in hand but much much smoother operation. I carried an Osborne for a while until I got this. That said, you can get the Osborne in S30v and S90v.
@Richard Davis Some of us like lanyards.Spyderco could have positioned a standoff to attach a lanyard to and skipped the holes.I don't know why more knives do it that way.Nice knife,I will grab one when they are available.
Thank you for flipping this thing a billion times while watching. Seriously. I wanted to find this exact video. Love this action!
Glad to be of service. Thanks for watching!
Just when I thought I purchased a knife I really wanted, here comes another I want!!!! Thanks a lot !!!! Awesome videos Tyler
Sorry to add to the list! ;) Thanks for watching.
@FlamQ Dbltap The Kapara is fantastic design, 100% recommend. The Smock doesn't appeal to me but that doesn't mean much. :)
@FlamQ DbltapBeing a lefty does have a positive, you spend less money.
Wow!! Can’t believe my eyes 😳lol! it’s actually out and for sale! That’s gotta be an extremely strong lock! Diggin it more then i thought I would
👍
Thanks guys!!
The man himself! Thanks for making a great design and collaborating with a great company to make it!
GPKNIVES It’s a dream come true! Thanks for offering them!
The in-and-out of the pocket shots are super helpful, great overview!
Glad to be of service. Thanks for watching.
Hollow grinds are beautiful
Agreed. I really appreciate the look and performance of a well executed hollow grind.
So pumped to get mine in hand
It is a very interesting and functional design.
GPKNIVES my only complaint is the smooth flipper tab. Needs jimping!
Thank you, Tyler.

Looks solid.

i wish it had a FFG over hollow, i love everything but the grind
Thanks for watching.
In stock now, correct?!? Cause I just got an email saying they were..?
At this moment they are 'sold out'. The ones that were in-stock are here and shipping.
@@Gpknives Ok. Cause I just ordered a couple minutes ago, while it said in stock, so hopefully I was one of the people that got it in time..
Neato!
Thanks for watching!
Neato velveeto
I like to flip it out with some wrist action.
No necessary but still functional. Do as you will. =) Thanks for watching.
Wish it had a deep carry clip.
👍
Great !! When can I get one???
I can even come to your store , I don’t live to far from you guys.

This has been "coming soon" for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long
Agreed. They will be here soon though!
@@Gpknives when?
@@JohnDoe-sx2zk Soon
Like the button!
It works very well.
I'd like to see Spyderco move on from S30V and make S35V the base steel.
Seems unlikely as they just moved the Native 5 from S35VN to S30V. The difference in the two is nominal.
The performance and cost are nearly identical. S35VN is just a tag tougher I guess. I wonder if S30V is more readily available.
The way the grind goes so far past the choil gives it an unconventional look..
Agreed, the blade should be longer
👍

Couldn't agree more.
you just smock it out.
Smock the Casbah.
Looks like a modern benchmade 940

You could have accidentally while using that knife hit the release button and the blade could close on your fingers.
It is unlikely.
Mongol want!
👍
I wish Spyderco would break up with the Lanyard Mafia and quit putting lanyard holes where the clip should be .
