    Fantastic round-up of the usual suspects! Fabulous that so many ex-pats are willing to sit down in a "town-hall" style meeting and share their situations. Thanks.

    Warren and Julie,
    We watch all of your videos from Ecuador. We are a bit jealous of your arrival in March. We were set to arrive in Cuenca on April 1, 2020 and start our retirement. We both retired in March and had EVERYTHING in place to leave the last day in March. Then the pandemic hit in mid March. We've been living in limbo since then. We are getting closer. Our complete retirement visa paperwork was received in the Miami Ecuador Consulate on Monday the 3rd. Once we get our Visa's by email then we'll rebook our flights down. We would have gotten our Visas in Cuenca after we would have arrived, now our lawyer (Gringo Visa in Cuenca) worked with the Miami consulate so we can get it here in the US. Can't arrive in Ecuador without a Visa.
    We hope we can arrive by the end of August. Thank you for your videos, they have kept us focused and uplifted as we wile away our time waiting.

      We will be out of the Cuenca region for a few weeks from August 26th and we may be back September 29th, heading to Banos, Mindo, cotacachi, the Amazon and Quito. That said we have friends here to greet you in our absence if needed. Contact us on our Facebook Group to connect.

I'd have to give you 5 thumbs up.

    Thank you for all the useful information you gave us, I'm thinking about moving to Ecuador too, especially as young expats, because most of Canada is too freezing, I'm no fan of snow and Canada is becoming unaffordable nowadays: especially rent, housing, etc. For example half a million dollar house in Canada, $1600 1 bedroom apartment even small Canadian city, I'm like what a ripoff.

      There are Canadians who live in Ecuador that are very happy with the cost of living, of course the weather is a welcome bonus. 😁

      @@WarrenJulieTravel how are you able to stay there so long on tourist Visa? you went there on March and i was under the impression you can have a 3 months visa with the extension of another 3 months the most.. Thank you

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  4 года назад +1

      Michael Sedigh Ecuador offers a six month visa once every five years I believe. It begins with a 90 day tourist visa, then when that expires an application for an additional 90 day extension is submitted. When the 180 days have expired the application for the 6 month visa is then submitted. Currently, none of these services are operational. If you need any help beyond what you are doing currently we have a great attorney at the Ecuador Legal Team, their contact information is in the Residency Visa video description. 😁

    Hello there, I was born in Ecuador but I came to the states when I was just a kid but I been thinking about moving back there since I work remotely. One thing you guys missed and I would of love to know is besides taking taxis and buses how about owning a car? Is it difficult? Can you finance a car there? And due to COVID 19 o everything close because I live in jersey and all the clubs/ restaurants are open.

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  4 года назад +1

      Johnny Segarra Ruth and Paul in the video spoke a little bit about owning a vehicle and the cost of their insurance and the cost of gas, as far as financing that is not a normal thing here in Ecuador. You may be able to work out something with an owner of a vehicle or negotiate extending out payments on a home with an owner of a home. But it’s not normal for the population.
      Restaurants are open and bars if they serve food currently. We’ve had curfews fluctuates over the last couple months where we had 7 o’clock on weekends 9 o’clock on weekdays we had it raise temporarily to 11 PM but it was moved back down to the current 7 o’clock and 9 o’clock curfew about 10 days ago.

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  4 года назад +1

      Take a look at the $1,500 budget video we did a couple months ago. A single person can live very well on that, a couple for the same standard add another $500 a month. This said you can get by under $1,500 a couple easily, Julie and I just moved in to a furnished 4,500 sq ft 4BR in The historic district we have to pay electric and gas and we will not exceed $2,500 total a month in all expenses including socializing and travel, this is much higher than most people experience, we will do a future video on this. Most couples are between $1,500 and $2,000, if you owned a home $1,200 would be very doable per month for a couple.
      If you’re coming there are many nicely furnished homes under $500 a month.
      Unfurnished $350 to $400 provides a decent place. Let me know if you have any questions, we are glad to help. 😁

    How do you locate these rentals? And are you required to pay a full years rent, or just standard one months etc?

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  4 года назад +1

      You can find some on Gringopost.com and through an agent as well. I can share an agents information with you if interested in finding a place in Cuenca. It’s monthly and typically a year lease with a one month security deposit.

    Why tip if it isn’t a local practice?

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  4 года назад +1

      Valid point, I think it’s a bit of a habit. We also know due to Covid19 the economy is hurting and the people could use it now. If you come their is not an expectation to tip, do what you feel moved to do. ♥️

    • @BoydJones
      @BoydJones 4 года назад +1

      @@WarrenJulieTravel Makes sense. But I wonder if giving to charities might be a better approach. More respectful of the local culture. I know in some parts of the world (e.g., Japan) it is rude to tip.

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  4 года назад +2

      I guess it’s a personal decision, it’s anticipated that potentially half the restaurants are not going to survive this pandemic. I think in normal times we probably would tip less, but currently I think it helps. It should not be in lieu of giving to charities or to the needy though.

    What are some of the other expat nationalities living in Ecuador? Your videos include white Americans only. Have you not connected with other nationalities to know what life is like for them? The Expat community is very diverse.

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  3 года назад

      It is diverse, we’ve met many nationalities in Ecuador however most are Caucasian American, Canadian, Brits, Swedish, South Africans, but also Chinese, Nepalese, Panamanian, Nicaraguan, and Black Canadian. Keep in mind white people stand out in Ecuador, there are Black Ecuadorians and Hispanic. If you’re part of our Facebook Group you can reach out to others there. Thanks 😊

    Not a group of expats but a groups of immigrants! Expats refers to British colonial rulers who lived in the colonies ,while serving the Crown! Retirees who move to other countries are immigrants!

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  3 года назад

      Not sure why you feel the need to spin or demonize the word, your definition is historically inaccurate, here is a link from Webster’s dictionary. I encourage you to look the word up in other sources. We are in Europe currently and we meet Expats from many nations, it’s not a white thing, British thing or American thing. Expats are from India, Germany, Pakistan, China etc. We are members of many international Expat groups on Facebook. Maids, and migrant workers and those classified as immigrants can also be expats, it’s not a word to imply status, education, or wealth. Expats generally are not seeking new citizenship.
