    Thanks to this video, my now wife and I went from not having a dance ready at all for our wedding to having a lovely little bit of choreography ready for the big day! All over the course of 9 days. I recommend starting here if you're trying to prepare for a first dance that will have yourself and your wife, or husband, smiling throughout the whole thing. Cheers!

    My daughter is getting married in 4 months. As you might have guessed, I am the father of the bride. Today I took my first dance lesson with a professional dance coach. She essentially went over a lot of what you two just did in this lesson.
    I have subscribed to your channel and I will be watching many videos from now until the wedding and beyond.
    Thanks for putting out such great content.

      Hi Roger, congrats on the upcoming marriage of your daughter! Sounds like the dance teacher you went to has a good idea of what to cover for total beginners. You're lucky, but unfortunately there are so many that jump straight to teaching formal dance styles and choreography which ends up overwhelming most students. Keep at it, and have fun with your dancing. The more comfortable you are on the dance floor the more you can enjoy the moment when you dance with your daughter.
      Reach out directly to us if you'd like more help with your dancing than what's offered in our free RUclips videos. Contact info is in the description of the videos.

      @@jcdanceco Thank you for the encouraging advise. Between the dance coach I have, and watching your videos I feel like I'm in decent shape to pull this off. Luckily for me, I am very coordinated and I do catch on fast, even at my age. I was a competitive gymnast in high school and college, and I continued with the sport for decades after college.
      I just finished watching a few more of your videos. Very well done. You two are so good and very cute together. Keep up the great work.

      Hahaha! Funniest comment we've had so far. Definitely yes if you have a fun relationship with your soon-to-be son in law, and especially if your daughter's name is Stacy.
      If you'd like a different song try Isn't She Lovely, by Stevie Wonder. In a way, you're both celebrating your daughter with the song. Let us know if all three of you would like to have more personalized help with all your dances!

      I'm assuming that particular wedding is way past, but if anyone is in a similar situation, Forever Young would work. Or I Hope You Dance. Maybe even My Wish. They're personal and genuinely caring, but don't necessarily require intimate knowledge of the young man's childhood to be sincere.
      Also, you could choose something without lyrics like a famous waltz or the theme song from Up. :)

    that dip at the end is probably what I worry about most. We are older, this is my first wedding. We haven't even practices yet. I would hate to lose my balance when doing that. I like your simplistic approach.

    • @jcdanceco
      @jcdanceco  Год назад +2

      Hi Marty, let's make sure your dance is worry free. If you're worried about the dip, then don't dance one, or do one that's not so low. There are many things you can do to finish your dance in a wonderful way. Like you said, keep it simple and you'll have a perfectly natural dance together. Reach out directly if you'd like more specific help from us! We have many students who have more life experience and are less physically confident than in their younger years.

      Trying to teach a life partner how to dance could be one of the most frustrating things anyone can do. Keeping everything simple and flexible is the best strategy, especially at the beginning. Once some basic skills are learn and confidence is gained, then branch off into next level moves. Good luck, make sure to make fun a priority, and everything will turn out way better. • @jcdanceco

      Such a wonderful song. It is on the slower side, but still very danceable. Having a simple HomeBase is always a smart starting point. From there keep all your turns and spins slow and un-hurried. If you dance any highlight type figures like leans, lifts or dips enter and exit them slowly and allow yourselves to pause a moment while you're in the move to better match the slowness of the song. If you over choreograph to this type of song it will look awkward. Keep everything natural and connected and you'll be just fine!!!

    How to modify basis steps like box step to a 4 count music? Often too fast 😅

    • @jcdanceco
      @jcdanceco  Год назад

      Hi Markhus. Yes, sometimes the box step can get fast depending on the song you're dancing to. In those cases, test out if you can do 1/2 speed. So before, if you were taking 1 beat per step, try taking 2 beats per step and see if that is more comfortable for you and your partner. If a bride is wearing a long train dress, is it okay for the groom to do a twirl? Or how do you manage them not being too static?
    Remember because of the flowing train, we don’t want the bride to twirl and ruin the good dress

    • @jcdanceco
      @jcdanceco  Год назад +1

      Long trains on dresses are an issue, and can definitely pose a problem for dancing. All proper dancing dresses are cut so that they will not pose a tripping hazard to either dancer, but we do understand that brides have fashion preferences that sometimes lead to having long trains on their dress. One solution would be to add a hook/button to bustle the dress up for the dance. Many brides ask their designer to add this during alterations.
      If a long train remains, your options are: 1. Very, very simple and slow dance moves so that the dress can slowly move and the dancers have time to negotiate their steps around the dress. 2. The bride holds onto one side of the dress with their left hand, and manually moves it out of the way when dancing. Neither option is ideal, but at least there's no tripping on the dress.
      As for ruining the dress, twirling it shouldn't ruin the dress if the dress is made correctly. Brides should be prepared for the a long train to get very dirty since it will be dragged along the ground throughout the day.

    • @_rhythmandspurs
      @_rhythmandspurs Год назад

      @@jcdanceco thank you so much for the detail response. I’d take cognizance of it.
      The bride wants to do a lift in the first dance, doesn’t want to pin the gown neither does she wants to pin the train to reduce the length😂. It’s absolutely ghe**o! I’d try to conform to your advise as well to ensure she has the best time regardless❤️
