Rob I have always wanted a tele , but I buy my guitar's from AMS and fender wont let people buy them 12 pay . Fender only sells them on a 3 month basis
I was about to say Graham Coxon, but then you reminded me of that epic solo from Prince!. Still gonna give a big shout out to Graham, though. Can't believe not seeing his name in the comments.
I gotta give my vote to Muddy Waters for the most iconic tele player. He extracted the heart and soul out of the Telecaster like no other guitarist; his crying, sliding tone embodies the pain that fertilized blues music in the first place. Thanks Robert and Sweetwater...Jam on
For me, Jimmy Page takes the cake. It’s been said multiple times that his tele sold more Les Pauls than anything. I rest my case... Good luck everyone!
So many great Tele players but I’m gonna go with a less obvious choice. Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead. Not a traditional shredder or country picker but an amazing guitar sculptor. Just goes to show how versatile that instrument is.
How do you pick just ONE favorite Tele player?! Eh... I’m gonna go with G.E. Smith from SNL. I saw him play his tele every single Saturday night when I was younger. The sound and style of that guitar brings back such fond memories of SNL skits from the 80’s & 90’s.
Damned good choice, and aside from being a MONSTER guitar player, he’s a wealth of knowledge. A true music historian and a fine champion of guitar music.
Favorite tele player was actually an esquire player at first but it's Syd Barrett. Love how he was able to take such a simple guitar and explore so many new sounds with it. He really inspires me to find my inner artist and not focus too hard on playing guitar to match anyone else. Of course now a days I'm sure he would have loved the versatility of a guitar like the nashville! Imagine if he had one of those back then! haha.
Jimmy Page. That beat-up and hard-played Tele in the early days defined the Tele's role as a serious rock instrument, in my opinion. But what a versatile guitar it has always been, I am impressed that Fender found even more versatility. Great demo, Robert.
After really thinking about it I'd say Prince did some of his best stuff, especially live on a telecaster. Playing Superbowl halftime show, While my Guitar Gently Weeps and Hall of Fame Ceremony, he also used it on his Hall of Fame induction performance and on Ellen's show. So I have to give it to Prince as my submission. Granted he didn't strictly play telecasters.
The late great Danny Gatton! His playing style, tone, phrasing, effortless genre-hopping and showmanship is still to this day unbelievable! I'm still remember the first time I heard Harlem Nocturne, 20 years ago.
I have the same light blue TELE Nashville. BUT I bought the original model that came out in 2016. Apparently they've made some changes to this newer model. My Tele has a Rosewood neck which I prefer, rather than maple, And my TONE knob is stationary, so not a push-pull one. I LOVE this Gtr. To me it's like owning both a TELE And a STRAT in one Gtr. I had an American made Strat, 2012 version. When I bought a PRS SE Custom 24, I sold it, as to me, it was a superior Gtr. BUT this wk, I bought ON SALE at $200 off, an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Ltmd Edition Black Back, and frankly, I was pleasantly surprised in comparing it to my old Strat and my present PRS, as to me, the EPI blows both of them away, and LESS money. I'd never compare a Les Paul to a TELE, as it'd be an apples to oranges comparison. TELE = Country---Brad Paisley-Vince Gill stuff, and a Les Paul to me = Southern Rock, Dickey Betts' stuff!
It's got to be Steve Cropper. Outside of country music, there can hardly be a player more synonymous with the Tele. He's the perfect accompanist and always serves the song rather than his ego.
I had a fender telecaster last year and it got stolen from me. When I heard fender was remaking the nashville telecaster I really wanted that but I'm glad I didn't get it. One day I'll get my own nashville telecaster. Truly is a dream guitar. Great playing my friend.
My favourite Telecaster player is Redd Volkaert. He's a country legend, has played with everyone, and was born in Vancouver, BC. I first heard about him on Chris Shiflett's (also a Tele player) podcast. When I heard he was from Vancouver I started digging into his catalogue and was blown away. Love his sound.
I guess I'd have to go with Waylon Jennings. There's a lot of greats to choose from here though. I don't think I've seen anyone mention "The Boss" which is crazy to me.
There is a yt chanel of two guys, Micah and his dad, Micah's dad plays a Telecaster... the name of the chanel is Autism Rock, they raise awareness about the autistic people acceptance, using art and rock. Micah's dad (I don't know his name) is my favorite Tele player. Good luckkkkk!!!
Favorite Tele player is hands down Brent Mason. The man has been on more recordings than we could even wrap our minds around, and he’s an absolute monster player.
I can't decide between Joe Strummer who used his Tele to create his iconic Punk sound, and Bruce Springsteen who makes a sound that seems so effortless Both are true working class heroes, using their Teles as simple tools to accompany their important messages
My favorite Telecaster player has got to be Albert Collins… he was able to pull the soul clean out of his Tele… much like another fellow Texas blues stringer was able to do with his Stratocaster ;) Other noteworthy Tele players that absolutely tickle me are Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, and Keith Urban! Happy Picking everyone!
My favorite telecaster player is Robbie Robertson during his days with The Band, someone who added groove when playing the rhythm but had one of the nastiest tones when he broke out playing lead (king harvest for example). Although I am biased, he is an all time tele player.
RORY GALLAGHER!!! absolute legend who also had a 3 pickup tele, never heard anyone even come close to his tone or style so he's gotta be my favorite telecaster player
One more vote for Jeff Buckley - his voice was so great that his guitar work sometimes gets overlooked. He's my favorite Tele player because he sounds like nobody else.
ALBERT COLLINS. He is a great musician and i can really see in him that he dedicates his soul playing his guitar. I hope I'm lucky to have my first electric guitar when I win it. because I only have an acoustic guitar.
Being a metal dude I should probably choose Jim Root or John 5, but I'm in love with Miyavi's playing. He rocks that classic tele sound and goes even further to give it his own spin. Incredible player with great sense of rhythm, melody and style.
Oh yes thank you for this! I was lucky my older brother dragged my underage ass into a downtown bar to see Muddy Waters. He came out onstage with that red Tele, big hands, big metal cylinder type slide, popped in the jack from his hard-worked Fender amp then stepped up front and pulled this note with his hand and arm vibrato from somewhere out of the cosmos that makes me shiver to this day when remembering over fifty years later. I’ve trying to hit that feeling ever since but I’m no Muddy Waters for sure. What a man!
Late 70's saw Roy in a dive about an hour outside of Memphis. Had his Fender tube amp facing back wall behind him. My favorite tele player as well but I can't leave out Danny Gatton or John 5
I would have to say Prince. I saw him for the first time March 12, 1982, in Raleigh, N.C., at the Dorton Arena. I knew five minutes into his set, he was going to go Supernova! Two years later he did just that with Purple Rain. Each year, he raised his skill level of playing, and could play all genres of music. Truly a one of a kind musician that could cover all the bases on stage, and in the studio. Oh, and he started with an H.S. Anderson Telecaster guitar.
I didn't realize he was a telecaster player until I saw Incubus live in Seattle a couple years back and Mike Einziger rocked a tele the whole set. Amazing sound and amazing playing.
Easily, George Harrison is my favorite Tele player. His playing and tones on the Let It Be sessions were the best he ever had and that all rosewood Telecaster had a lot to do with that.
I’d have to go with Jimmy page, I just think he is the greatest guitar player and he makes any instrument he plays sound excellent, love the sound of the tele!
Yes! Teles are so versatile. These comments champion everyone from Muddy Waters to Jimmy Page to Jeff Buckley to Brad Paisley to Jony and many more. Tele players (I am one) seem to be especially loyal to their instrument.
John 5 is BY FAR my favorite Tele Player! What a versatile artist. He's played every genre of music known. K D Lang to Rob Zombie and everything in between.
That gift from Jeff Beck to Jimmy Page, was the strat of someting unique. We can't forget that Tele in Zeppelin, even years later he returned to use Teles.
Favourite player: George Harrison, hands down. Sure, this Tele was later Beatles, but the way he played it will always stick out to me; the right lead for the right song at the right time. Absolute master.
He wasn't best known for his tele but it's Johnny Marr for me. He wrote This Charming Man with his green tele and that guitar piece will forever be etched into my mind.
My 1st listening experience of a Fender Telecaster, was listening to The Clash. Joe Strummer (R.I.P) was a great rhythm guitarist on his Tele & was instrumental in The Clash's sound - he was a human metronome that could mould his Tele sound to any style of music. So Joe Strummer must be my all time favourite Telecaster player. Listen to London Calling & you can hear Joe's Tele sending out that public service announcement, it's just so moody, with a sense of urgency!
Choosing a favorite Tele player is probably the hardest one, there’s no genre where it doesn’t sound awesome! Hence I just have to go with John 5 - living proof there’s nothing you can’t do on a Tele!
May not be the most "traditional" choice, but John 5 is my favorite Tele player. He's such an awesome guitarist, from chicken pick'n country, to metal, he is crazy talented!
Winner Announced HERE - ruclips.net/video/pfdbybbScgQ/видео.html
What's better than a Tele??? MORE TELE THAT'S WHAT!
Rob I have always wanted a tele , but I buy my guitar's from AMS and fender wont let people buy them 12 pay . Fender only sells them on a 3 month basis
I love my Nashville MIM telecaster. Fantastic guitars.
@@markdalton293 - So save up.
The only Tele I ever purchased is my most recent addition, and that is the Charvel So-Cal Pro-mod. I recommend that you check it out.
I've always been told at Gibson Les Paul is nothing more than a hot rod of telecaster
My favorite Tele player is Prince. That “My Guitar Gently Weeps” solo is insanely awesome!!
That was an amazing performance.
I was about to say Graham Coxon, but then you reminded me of that epic solo from Prince!. Still gonna give a big shout out to Graham, though. Can't believe not seeing his name in the comments.
Man the new studio is awesome! Everything looks and sounds so great. And my favorite Tele player of all time, Brent Mason.
Thanks buddy.
Also one of may faves. I share a birthday with him
Albert Collins, the Master of the Telecaster!
I gotta give my vote to Muddy Waters for the most iconic tele player. He extracted the heart and soul out of the Telecaster like no other guitarist; his crying, sliding tone embodies the pain that fertilized blues music in the first place. Thanks Robert and Sweetwater...Jam on
Can't forget Waylon.
For me it's Andy Summers. The sounds and tones he gets out of a tele are phenomenal.
For me, Jimmy Page takes the cake. It’s been said multiple times that his tele sold more Les Pauls than anything. I rest my case...
Good luck everyone!
I bought a Les Paul in the 70s because of that tele!
So many great Tele players but I’m gonna go with a less obvious choice. Jonny Greenwood from Radiohead. Not a traditional shredder or country picker but an amazing guitar sculptor. Just goes to show how versatile that instrument is.
As a tele owner, I did a bunch of research on "known tele players" and he is ALWAYS in the discussion. I'm going with J5 tho.
good pick!
My friend out west has the Ed Obrien strat with that sustainer system in the neck pickup. He loves it and raves about it all the time. Good choice
@@davidp7833 That sounds like something I would be into, I’ll have to look that up.
Jeff buckley for me. Easily one of the most underrated guitarists ever! He's the reason i got into Tele's
How do you pick just ONE favorite Tele player?! Eh... I’m gonna go with G.E. Smith from SNL. I saw him play his tele every single Saturday night when I was younger. The sound and style of that guitar brings back such fond memories of SNL skits from the 80’s & 90’s.

@@corneliuscrewe677 Me too loved SNL at that time. GE Smith Yes, always brought on great guest to play on SNL
Either Jimmy page, who doesn't really count, or the telemaster, Danny Gatton
Roy Buchanan is my favorite Tele player. He pulls so many wonderful sounds out of it with his pinch harmonics and squeelys peppered in.
My favorite tele player is Greg Koch. He is not only hilarious, but his playing is just so funky and inspiring.
Steve Cropper stands out for me, as one of the many great tele players. His sound just never gets old.
Prince was not an exclusive Tele player, but he did some amazing things with a pretty standard tele. Good luck all!
Yeah, but it was not a Fender Tele..
Doesn't matter. How he performed the solo with his Tele on 'While my guitar gently weeps' at the 2004 Rock Hall was absolutely perfect awesomeness!
Favorite tele player was actually an esquire player at first but it's Syd Barrett. Love how he was able to take such a simple guitar and explore so many new sounds with it. He really inspires me to find my inner artist and not focus too hard on playing guitar to match anyone else. So I have to give it to Prince as my submission. Granted he didn't strictly play telecasters.
I mean, it has to be Keef. His butterscotch S-H tele is really the sound of the Stones IMHO. Such an iconic instrument.
Gotta go with Danny Gatton. He had amazing chops with a crazy blend of country, blues, rock, jazz....
Danny Gatton was phenomenal, if I remember right, it was said that he could play anybody’s music but nobody could play his.
Great video Robert! Terry Kath is my favorite. He had so much tonal range to keep up with that army of a band Chicago!
I love what Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead does with a tele. Their compositions are beautiful. That guitar in burst would be mint.
Roy Buchanan for me. He genuinely took the Tele to places no one else did, with sounds no other guitar could make.
Gotta go with Roy Buchanan. His live version of “Hey Joe” was just killer.
Yes, that whole Austin show is mind blowing.
Danny Gatton, too!
@Michael Green
Yes, Danny Gatton was just an incredible showman and technician. Loved how he would use an open beer bottle as a slide.
As a punk guy my answer has to be Joe Strummer. His tele and it’s crazy road-wear is so cool.
It's got to be Steve Cropper. Outside of country music, there can hardly be a player more synonymous with the Tele. He's the perfect accompanist and always serves the song rather than his ego.
@Trent Walker Er, yes.
I had a fender telecaster last year and it got stolen from me. When I heard fender was remaking the nashville telecaster I really wanted that but I'm glad I didn't get it. One day I'll get my own nashville telecaster. Truly is a dream guitar. Great playing my friend.
GE Smith is my favorite. I love Hall and Oates and he enhanced the music just so well with his playing. Also he just seems like a great guy.
Greg Koch has to be one of the most ridiculously talented tele players to pick up a tele! Can't wait to see him back on tour!!
Braid Paisley is incredible on his Telecasters!
By far the most underrated blues guitarist, Roy Buchanan. He mastered his Tele, and he could create ‘Pedal’ sounds without using a pedal.
Yep!
#1 for sure.
Used the Volume control. And pinky finger
When Prince picked up his "Tele" style, no matter what kind of songs he played he sounded out of this world. Control, tone, feel.....
Going to have to go with Brent mason
I guess I'd have to go with Waylon Jennings. There's a lot of greats to choose from here though. I don't think I've seen anyone mention "The Boss" which is crazy to me.
Why don't more rock guys like a
Waylon? He crossed that line in Texas but it seems to have ended there. Long time rocker who *loves Waylon!
I think Mike Campbell is one of the most overlooked guitarists out there. It's a star studded group to choose from but he's my favourite Tele player!
Favorite tele player: Waylon Jennings. Looked cool, sounded cool, was cool!!!
Jeff Buckley. There's something in his playing that is so ethereal, mystical, and haunting.
The late great Terry Kath - early Chicago. Anyone who commanded Jimi's respect deserves a deep listen.
Favourite Tele player is Peter “Danish Pete” Honoré. But I'd but Prince very high on my list too.
Great taste in musicians.
Favorite Tele player is hands down Brent Mason. The man has been on more recordings than we could even wrap our minds around, and he’s an absolute monster player.
I can't decide between Joe Strummer who used his Tele to create his iconic Punk sound, and Bruce Springsteen who makes a sound that seems so effortless
Both are true working class heroes, using their Teles as simple tools to accompany their important messages
I absolutely LOVE my Nashville telecaster. It was between this and an Epiphone Les Paul and it wasn’t even close
My absolute master of the telecaster, is John 5. He makes them sing no matter what he plays. Country, Rock, what ever.
My favorite tele player is Peter "Danish Pete" Honoré. Him on a tele is a match made in heaven
Favorite tele players would be GE Smith, Brett Mason, and John 5. Brad Paisley's not bad either
I’m going to go with Danny Gatton!I love tele tones best when they’re played with a little aggression.
J5 has quickly become my favorite tele player. He definitely has a true passion for the instrument and knack for writing super cool riffs.
ALBERT COLLINS. He is a great musician and i can really see in him that he dedicates his soul playing his guitar. I hope I'm lucky to have my first electric guitar when I win it. because I only have an acoustic guitar.
I really loved prince's style of playing even though he had several different guitars I loved his tele solo on "While my Guitar Gently Wheeps"
Being a metal dude I should probably choose Jim Root or John 5, but I'm in love with Miyavi's playing. He rocks that classic tele sound and goes even further to give it his own spin. Incredible player with great sense of rhythm, melody and style.
It’s hard to pick a favorite, but I gotta show some love to billy squire. The guys had some awesome licks and a sick tele tone.
Definitely John 5. He's great for heavy stuff, for sure, but every style he plays in sounds amazing.
Jimmy Pages studio work with the tele is iconic. A modern day tele player would be John 5
I'm going to go with Muddy Waters. He played a lot of different guitars, but his red Tele was gorgeous and the way he could make it sing was sublime

@@Riverdeepnwide WOW, what an experience. That sounds amazing! Thank you for sharing!
" Pete Anderson " !!! ,,,
I would have to say is my favorite tele player that produced and played lead guitar for Dwight Yoakam in 1984 to 2002
Gotta roll with Jimmy Page on this one! Too smooth, sick guitar
yep
John5. He’s a phenomenal player that most people don’t seem to think about as such a well versed player.
For sure, jon 5 can play anything on a tele too. County, jazz, blues, and fusion metal. Just an amazing player
My pick, too! 🍻
My favorite Tele player is Roy Buchanan - such an underrated blues guitarist
Exactly. !!!!
Late 70's saw Roy in a dive about an hour outside of Memphis. Had his Fender tube amp facing back wall behind him.
My favorite tele player as well but I can't leave out Danny Gatton or
John 5
Not under-rated at all. Just sadly gone too soon.
I would have to say Prince. I saw him for the first time March 12, 1982, in Raleigh, N.C., at the Dorton Arena. I knew five minutes into his set, he was going to go Supernova! For me it is John 5, he is just an all round beast at everything from chicken picken country stuff to heavy metal!
Agreed John 5 is a beast , doesn't get enough recognition as far as I'm concerned! His new song is killer with a lot of shredding..
I didn't realize he was a telecaster player until I saw Incubus live in Seattle a couple years back and Mike Einziger rocked a tele the whole set. Amazing sound and amazing playing.
Jonny Greenwood is my favorite telecaster player. His playing reflects his eccentric and erratic nature.
Thanks I have one,I made it on an upgrade with noiseless pickups, new runners, bone nut ,5 way pickup for 1/2 the price and half the weight.I love it.
Tunners
I don’t know if I want to switch to individual bridge?
Easily, George Harrison is my favorite Tele player. His playing and tones on the Let It Be sessions were the best he ever had and that all rosewood Telecaster had a lot to do with that.
I’d have to go with Jimmy page, I just think he is the greatest guitar player and he makes any instrument he plays sound excellent, love the sound of the tele!
Brad Paisley is the guy that got me loving the Telly. Seems for a “simple” guitar it can do everything.
Keith Richards iconic tele player and just like the tele kept it simple but still perfect.
It's got to be Steve Cropper, all those hits for Stax records, plus he plays country and western!
I would have to say Jeff Buckley is my favorite Tele player. I’ve always loved his interesting chord shapes and progressions
Same!
Yes, his playing is a big reason I chose a Telecaster for myself.
Billy Gibbons. I love his phrasing and unmistakable style of playing. Although live he uses custom built t types and not actual fenders.
I bought two of them and will buy a third one as soon as I can get back to the store
My favorite tele player has to be Danny Gatton. A true virtuoso who is criminally underrated
Jonny Greenwood!!! Radiohead is one of my alltime favorite bands, Jonny’s guitar playing being one of the main reasons ❤️🔥
Yes! Teles are so versatile. These comments champion everyone from Muddy Waters to Jimmy Page to Jeff Buckley to Brad Paisley to Jony and many more. Tele players (I am one) seem to be especially loyal to their instrument.
Jeff Buckley for me. First person who truly inspired me to pick up a tele. His playing is so mysterious and unique
John 5 is BY FAR my favorite Tele Player! What a versatile artist. He's played every genre of music known. K D Lang to Rob Zombie and everything in between.
Jeff Buckley! His chord voicing is ahead of his time. And Grace is a masterpiece.
That gift from Jeff Beck to Jimmy Page, was the strat of someting unique. We can't forget that Tele in Zeppelin, even years later he returned to use Teles.
I’ve gotta go with Jimmy Page, just such an incredible sound.
Love how that blue has shades of purple and lavender in it 😍
Richie Kotzen. The way he plays without using a pick is really inspireing.
Ted Greene, phenomenal teacher and his chords shapes and voicings were so unique. If you haven't check out chord chemistry by Ted Greene.
Favourite player: George Harrison, hands down. Sure, this Tele was later Beatles, but the way he played it will always stick out to me; the right lead for the right song at the right time. Absolute master.

First of all congratulations for new studio. My favorite tele player is George Harrison. Loved his tele playing
Peter “Danish Pete” Honoré gets my vote not only for his incredible playing but for being such a great inspiration to so many. A purple Tele! C’mon!
Choosing a favorite Tele player is probably the hardest one, there’s no genre where it doesn’t sound awesome! Hence I just have to go with John 5 - living proof there’s nothing you can’t do on a Tele!
No, man. You wanna check out the great Jimmy Bryant. He was insanely good. Mind blowing in fact.
Rick Parfitt, and Albert Lee
John 5 is insane, saw him live recently and he was one of the best shows ive been to
Chrissie Hynde for sure. Incredible songs and incredible tones!
I really enjoy watching and listening to Vince Gill play. So relaxed and fluid.
Favorite tele player: Brad Paisley. That guy can shred! In a chickin pickin kinda way…
Saw him live..freakn awsum
May not be the most "traditional" choice, but John 5 is my favorite Tele player. He's such an awesome guitarist, from chicken pick'n country, to metal, he is crazy talented!
My favorite Tele style player is Julian Lage.. Love the sounds he gets out of his Nachocaster.
Roy Buchanan! Thanks for the great videos bro! I learned a lot on your channel
