GAMMACIDE on Robbs MetalWorks 2024

As Texans, we are fortunate to live in such a vast state, which allows us to, not only experience a variety of ethnic cultures (& everything that comes along with that), but more so, ENJOY an array of metal music, musicians & scenes. AND, throughout my tenure, I've had the pleasure of experiencing most scenes first hand,...SA, Corpus, the RGV, Houston, El Paso & Dallas/Ft. Worth. However, when you talk about RICH histories of the underground - I often think of bands like Juggernaut/SA Slayer/BYFIST from San Antonio OR Helstar from Houston,....& definitely, bands like rottingcorpsethrash2 /Gammacide/Rigor Mortis (Official) from Dallas/FW. It was these band that set the tone (& foundations) in their respective scenes for what is known as Texas metal today. The resurgence of 'retro-thrash' in the 2020's has also seen the RESURRECTION of many of these classic bands, which has fans (& promotors alike) clamoring to again witness first hand the roots of where it all began. One of these late 80's bands that will OFFICIALLY resurface in 2025 is Gammacide, primarily led by the initiative of guitarist, Scott 'Shelbeast' Shelby. I had an opportunity to catch up with the man in Austin on the 4th of July to discuss it ALL. SO, in the interview below you will see us chat about: the reformation of Gammacide, the possiblities of NEW music, the addition of drummer, Joey 'Blue' Gonzalez (of Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals), the continuance of WARBEAST under a new moniker, the north Texas metal scene, Scott's personal tribulations (& triumphs) & MUCH more! Do NOT speed up the riffs! Stick with the genius of rick perry and scott shelby‘s breakdowns and mixed attack. Don’t change a damn thing modernize it my ass know how bad the new music is 99% of it sucks they think faster is better. Heck vapor lock is slow and do me good that’s colder in coming at ya. Overkill has sped up and they absolutely suck now.
