Hey, thanks for showcasing the campaign! Glad that you're enjoying it. Can't wait for next part to see your reactions to some missions in the "B-Side" of the campaign. :D
@@ControlledPairsGamingplease please please make a video on it soon! (i know you may have to change your release schedule but I guarantee it'll be worth it)
I have connections with Koteng “the Fatal Skies creator” and he informed me of some cool things. That being of the sequel to this campaign. It is written but he is currently in the same boat as me and my campaign; both of ours are put on delay to focus on our classes. Overall though, Im glad to see Koteng getting recommendations on his project as I know how hard he worked on it.
If only they would let flat screen and hotas users play the game (there are mods, but somehow you cannot bind some key elements, otherwise it would be as playable as DCS if not more). Even without VR this game fills the gap between Ace Combat and DCS very nicely.
I've been doing flight sims since they literally existed, i've also flown small planes irl. NO flight sim puts you into the cockpit like Vtol VR. I have DCS, and love it, but I find myself wanting to jump into vtol so I can be IN the cockpit. Manipulating the controls, looking around, its amazing even after a year of playing it. The community and multiplayer is also great. DCS has VR, but its a pale comparison in terms of functionality to a game built from the ground up with vr and vr controllers.
at about 20 minutes you guys are calling out fox-3 for IR missiles, this should be fox-2, and in fact that particular mission in the campaign shouldn't have any fox-3's at all, just fox-1's and fox-2's, as the first cargo plane is holding the fox-3's you'll be using in future missions of the campaign.
I've spent close to $5,000 getting DCS to run in VR and still, it's not good enough. Probably wont be until 5090's come out. Normal gameplay is fine, but when you run Mariannas campaigns in bad weather you can't even maintain 72fps and result in dropped frames and stutters. I just picked up VTOL VR to try out but I'm on edge about the no hotas part... we'll see if it all clicks.
I'm gonna grab some popcorn and wait for the DCS bombs to show up. I'm not even gonna watch the video. The comment section is about to be a battlefield.
Wishlist for VTOL VR: - Realistic explosions - Clouds - Better tile texture management so that you don't see a checkerboard when at altitude - Modding API for creating our own airframes, spanning cockpit instruments and controls, aerodynamics model, etc. It should be complicated, but it would allow 3rd parties to take on the work of creating classic and advanced airplanes. But as far as the central core of the game, it's really well done.
I've known about VTOL VR for years, but only recently purchased it when I upgraded to the Quest 3. Why o why did I deprive myself of this masterpiece for so long. I have spent an unhealthy amount of time playing it already. In my opinion, not only is it thee best VR game to date, but also one the the best games I have ever played in general. The perfect mix of simulation and fun. I'll enjoy many more years playing it!
When it comes to wanting stuff simple or easy for you, then definitely VTOL VR, but when it comes to high realism and a lot of challenges, then definitely DCS. Not saying vtol vr is bad, nor am I saying dcs is bad
Yeaaaaah this game is a beauty ... for those who didn't try it, easiest comparison would be Full on VR version of Ace Combat or Project Wingman with added complexity of DCS - or rather DCS Lite would be more correct :D BUT if you like AC and PW you will be right at home as well, you'll only need to adjust on Flight model and that Countermeasures and using ordnance is not just hitting the button and Missile magically misses you or on the other hand Missile hits the target :D
As a DCS elitist I disagree with this comment LOL (but I do gotta put this in for peeps who aren't as committed I respect that they'll play this instead but if you're really obsessed with jets try DCS
I think it could be if you could use a joystick. I can’t play the game due to them forcing a virtual joystick which is incredibly uncomfortable for my wrists, hands, and arms as well as being just generally clunky.
I'm going to buy this while it's on sale (there are a couple of mods that are out that allow you to play without VR which is great because where I live in the world getting a VR headset is considered a major investment)
its just the ease of plug and play. you dont have to start trackir then plug in ur HOTAS and then wait for a 20gig update lol. DCS graphics dont make up for VTOL realism in terms of VR @@ControlledPairsGaming
Generally same here, I used to play a lot of DCSWorld, but I've mostly stopped playing it in favor of VTOL VR, it just feels smoother to play because I can reach out and grab stuff instead of having to use my mouse and keyboard with a Hotas.
I have AH-94 from VtolVR and AH-64D from DCS, I have played both in VR, the AH-94 gameplay is much better and feels more realistic, but I really love the Apache so that's the one I'm currently playing.
If this game didnt have a VR Headset as a basic requirement its player base would easily double... if not triple. That is honestly the only issue it has. Yes i get it. Its designed around VR and the whole experience is tailored around that. Still. This means that in order to play one must at least get a VR headset and controllers for say 200$ish at least. Ever compared to DCS that you can play with just a stick (as i did for years) its pretty harsh. (In perspective a DCS module + Hotas will still be less than a VR headset). This is the only limit. If one aint into VR it wont get this. If one is into flight games but does not want to spend for a VR headset it wont get this. If one wants to try this has to keep in mind that there is an entrance fee of 200$ (The game is extremely reasonably price so the price of the game is not a barrier). If the Devs create a "Non-VR" mode for this then a lot more people that like flight sime would easily give this a shot... and maybe buy a VR sometime down the line to enjoy it at its fullest. Its accessible. Not too complex not too simple. Its fun. You can easily make your own contenent. The specs are not high and the graphics while simplistic are enjoyable. Its a great game.... with a bit high bar for entry. Small note: I know that there i a mod that allows to play without VR but it has been described to me as "Relatively janky" and its that: A mod. Not something official.
Sorry, man. The whole point is a VR flight sim. It was a deliberate decision to maximize the quality of the experience. The game would be a very mid pancake experience.
@@ControlledPairsGaming Yeah yeah i know. VR above all n such... Still even using the widescreen mod is very enjoyable once you fix it and one of the most popular mods is the one that let you control your planes with a physical HOTAS (wonder why). The point made is that this would be a very solid and enjoyable game even outside the VR enviroment. I would not really call it very mid pancake experience. Especially if one like Flight sims but does not want to/have time to DCS. Its far less complex and time consuming than DCS, much more hands on and immersive than Warthunder, much more realistic than ace combat. Midline sims like this were extremely popular late 90s/early 2000.
(In perspective a DCS module + Hotas will still be less than a VR headset). What? where you bought your hotas???? most ok market HOTAS start at $400 and the most simple entry T.16000M are at $168 just 50 bucks more and you get a more imersive experience you will ever get without flying IRL
@@Phvpark You can get a titanwolf griffin throttle for aroud 50 if not less. You can get a T.16000M stick for 70. You can go cheaper. A thrusmaster Flight Stick X can go for less than 50, friend got his for 25 (And its very underrated as a stick IMHO, not as high quality but its fine for the job). Assuming the cheapest combo (full price) and full price module you clock in at less than 200. Add discount to module (if applicable) tou can go as low as 150. And to play DCS is still not required. Back in my days of monetary destitution (and when DCS was faaar easier to run on lower end hardware) i played with a stick only. Its a matter of accesibilty for me more than anything. Get people to try and enjoy stuff. Still you can get a Hotas for less than 150. I am looking at mine right now.
I've hundreds of hours (and many videos) on DCS. I self taught cold start, air refuel, BVR, air to ground, and case 1 & 2 recoveries on the hornet. I have a HOTAS Warthog stick and throttle and Track IR. I run a 4090 on a 27 inch 1440p monitor. I still prefer VTOL VR for immersion and fun.
I've only played BMS a few times, but I've many many hours in DCS. 'Best' is subjective, of course, but I find myself defaulting to VTOL rather than DCS for flight sim sessions simply because it is more fun. And for that, it is 'better' in my book.
Simply, no. DCS (Digital Combat Simulator) is absolutely the best "sim" for flight, if you consider "sim" to imply realistic. The graphics, amount of aircraft, multiplayer, diverse community, and of course unparalleled level of detail of the aircraft, down to recreating every system, switch, button and avionics characteristics of real-life counterparts allows DCS to take the cake for flight simulators.
Hey, thanks for showcasing the campaign! Glad that you're enjoying it. Can't wait for next part to see your reactions to some missions in the "B-Side" of the campaign. :D
It's stellar! Filmed two more missions last night.
I'm so looking forward to the EW Tomcat that's coming, gonna get back into VTOL in a heartbeat when that drops!

Really love VTOL VR, really scratches the itch when I don't have the full mental capacity for a long DCS session.

This game has a perfect balance of realism, gamey mechanics, and simplification to make it one of the most fun, and versatile flight combat simulators
If only they would let flat screen and hotas users play the game (there are mods, but somehow you cannot bind some key elements, otherwise it would be as playable as DCS if not more).

Hope to see some more content of you in the new EW Tomcat coming out! You and Drewski would make an awesome collab for that when it comes out!
Agreed! I'll shoot Drew a note.
Come out of burner when you've got a heat seeker on you.
With the Tomcat coming in this is gonna be the best. Plus it's one of the only sims I can kind of wrap my brain around. Lol.

Vtol is the best vr sim game out there by far. Its such a shame the algorithm has been so rough on it lately
I love this game so much. Glad to see more content for it! Also, stoked to hear about a new campaign I didn't know about! thanks!
Gotta find yourself a good EWO so you can really rock some socks off when the new DLC releases!

VTOL VR Is the best low budget VR flight sim ever. Its basically DCS without having to sell a kidney

Yes. It is the greatest flight simulator I’ve ever played.

Have you tried Nuclear Option? Has head tracking and VR on the roadmap, been having a lot of fun messing around in it.
I'm watching it but if it actually gets VR I will be highly interested in buying it
Just looking at it i think so when I see a sim that looks good it normally is can't wait to get my own.
