i used your method to preserve my pet flying squirrel! she died 3 years ago but she’s been sitting in my freezer for 3 years. she looks beautiful and amazingly healthy.
If I can ask, w h y did you keep her in the freezer for that l o n g( I'm just here because I wanted some cool bones and didn't know where to find them)
@@yeehaw1932 because they wanted to preserve their pet??
Hello, it's been a year now, how's ur pet squirrel? Is it still in good condition? I'm planning on perserving my hamster
who the fack has a squirrel in their freezer for 3 years💀💀💀
Having a wet specimen is one thing, but having your pet in your freezer for 3 years is just out of fucking wack…
I've been put down for things like this....and when I watch your videos I feel normal... thank you
Aw, you're so welcome, and thank you too!
so fucking edgy, i now feel normal, look how strange we are
For what preserving specimens?I do it and I am also judged but I don't care what others think of me.
Basement _Dweller same I took a bird food a beak (dead bird I cut it off) and people with its weird
Basement _Dweller What is the name of the liquid he uses?
You can also use hand sanatizer, I never understood why people think this is creepy. I think its neat. The animals lives arent just wasted and their bodies tell stories of how they passed.
Hand sanitizer made mine mold
🫡
Make sure it doesn't have any other additives in it though (like sent, aloe, etc.).
soo... how bout a human? about 200 lb
(asking for a friend)
MagicalGoldenReaper Creep.
J get a full on taxidermy trust
You asked this on every preservation video I could find.
MagicalGoldenReaper
But that gets rid of all the fun bits :(
@@malevolentthedragon maybe they have a 200lb problem in the trunk they need to stop from stinking up the place lol.
This is very helpful! My mouse just passed away a few days after I got her and I'm thinking she was undeveloped because she was so small. She died with her eyes closed and I wanted to preserve her because she was beautiful, this is super informative! Thank you
I found a dead mouse and it is so cute so I what to persevere it
This was really informative. Your wet specimen collection looks awesome by the way! In my collection I only have one animal I preserved in alcohol. It's a small turtle. : )
+xdoodlelux Thank you, dear!
Hi! My son's turtle died, I let it in the sun for now a month I think. I want to do this with the turtle. Do you recommend me something? I'm here to learn how. I think it is a nice science experiment for my son.
I got the same problem with a small turtle and i also need tips please
I live on a farm and whenever I find a dead animal I like to preserve it :)
My hamster just died and I wanted to see him everyday i want him to be with me even if he’s already dead. He leave me too soon. I’m so sad. 😭
Sotaime Guinevere F
Back a long time ago they used to taxidermy their pets! Because they didn't have cameras
@RATHALOS Just fuck off please lmao
@RATHALOS "look how edgy i am, I call other people cringe"
@RATHALOS well you certainly have problems lol
Quite interesting. I picked up a preserved pig fetus at this weird shop and was wondering how someone would do it themselves. Great tutorial, now for finding a relatively clean dead animal...
how the fuck did you buy a pig fetus in a store
actually, no, WHY DID YOU BUY A PIG FETUS
Ryan Kiefer the store was based around oddities, there were other preserved specimen for sale (there was an octopus, rodents, etc...there even was a sheep fetus if I’m not mistaken). As to why I bought it...quite frankly, for display. To celebrate life, one must accept death as an inevitability! Appreciate the process...
@@SirGrimGamer oh thank god, the way you worded it made me picture you buying these rotten big babies from like a sketchy cornerstone
that mouse is so freaking cute
Ikr?! So adorable!
It's dead.
@@alkoia That makes it cuter
I found a mouse and I'm in love with it it's so cute but its dead some I might try this
@@alkoia no shit sherlock
This made me cry after all, but I appreciate it and see you care about them. You know? Found this because I'm currently collecting the bones from one of my passed rats for a friend who collects bones and puts them together, because i feel he'd appreciate it and it's admiring and remembering my ratty in a different way. Feel a bit conflicted because it's not the usual and we're not used to seeing it i think.
I don't know if it's the same for all bone collectors but I tend to get super attached to specimens in my collection. A few dogs recently killed a cat on my property and I took its skull and gave it a name. My friend and I named it "Fritters" I love Fritters a lot and I treat it as if it were my own cat, I talk to the skull sometimes as if it can hear or understand me. I want to give it the respect it deserves. So if your friend is anything like me I'd say your rat is in good hands.
@@finnfilledmuffin9930 That's a sweet story 💕 yeah he still has Jupiter/my rat. He's been trying to find an old taxidermy/preservation website he used to go on probably 10 years back.
I wish I would have known this earlier to preserve my goldfish of 3 years.😭 I was really upset when he died and I burried him and held a mini funeral for him
Yeah I buried my frog
I'm here trying to figure out how to preserve my frog 😭😭
@@icareid639 I'm so sorry.for your loss. 😭
I have a standard poodle stillborn puppy preserved as a wet specimen I did myself
why the FUCK would you preserve that.
Well isn't that adorable
um don't do that what if people come over to your home and see that
Sorry for the loss
Speckled Sweetie that’s cool
I think this is very interesting, I am a animal fanatic and with having lots of animals sadly you end up having some casualty’s. I think it would be a nice way to keep them and make a profit of a natural death (I wouldn’t want them to be mistreat or only for profit). I’d like to see something’s on snakes as I will be breeding some and want to know how to properly preserve them. Loved the video and it was very informative!
Not trying to be psycho but my beloved guinea pig died and I preserved it like this to remember her by and it helped me get over it thank u
fill the jar half way before u put it in and legs n stuff wont break off as often
This makes me feel like I'm not weird for liking this stuff...thanks.
I preserved my first wet specimen a few weeks ago. It's a chicken heart. It's about ready to change the solution I think, the stuff is settling to the bottom more now. I used strong alcohol. 90% is good I think.
My cat had kittens and 3 out of the 4 died, kinda regret not preserving them but it was too emotionally taxing at the time
I have a small turtle too that passed away two weeks ago.......I want to preserve him in alcohol, and then set him in resin. How long should I preserve him in the alcohol before I set him in the resin?
This is a good video but I was of the belief that this method only works for a short period of time because the organs are not preserved by the rubbing alcohol and start to Rot very quickly
Do you know how to dry preserve an animal, my daughter wanted to cast her beloved hamster in resin, which I think is awesome tbh!
That's an adorable idea, if you haven't already, I recommend checking out some Facebook groups for it and see what they say, you'd be more likely get accurate information that way 😊
I've also done this preservation with flowers and until now it looks beautiful
I want to preserve a giant fish(30 kgs). Do I've clean inside first? and can i use 96% ethyl alcohol for that?
Beautiful video very helpful thank you. I like how nice the music was while you talk about such strange things would love a follow up of how to preserve internally
I've gotten a few premeture kittens in the freezer and was wondering if you have any tips on preserving them properly. They are a bit bigger then a mouse so they are going to need to be flushed internally and I have a long needle syringe to do so. I just don't know if I should bother trying to get the isopropyl into the skull/brain cavity. Will it make a difference notable difference or do I only have to focous on saterateing the abdominal cavity? It's been a while since I've wet preserved an specimin for a long time and any and all tips would be super awesome.
(Note: an just to clarify to any who my be concerned, I have collected these kittens ethically and humanely. Long story short ,my whole family dose animal rescue
and rehabilitation. But mainly we do rearing of abandoned baby animals until they can find there forever homes or released. But sadly in animal rescue sometimes no matter what we and our family Vet do, some just pass away due to failure to thrive or from comeing to us with illnesses and/parasites.)
You said rubbing alcohol with a 50%-70%+ alcohol by volume, would isopropyl alcohol work as well? I’ve found that it works for insects but I haven’t tried wit with anything else
Why buy animals
isnt part of the experience finding cool subjects rather than buying them from a market ??
I agree, though buying some such as feeder mice or frozen fish can be good when you're starting out. Then you're more experienced when you get to the cool things you found yourself!
Seeing your collection always makes me so happy. ❤
+Sammi Robin Aw, thank you so much lovely!
Definitely doing this on my goldfish who died a couple days ago, he is a redcap oranda and absolutely gorgeous!
Could you use the same stuff with organs? I collect small animal organs, mainly hearts.
Yup! I've preserved a few hearts and eyeballs with it and they've lasted pretty well :)
The_Artomaniac yes you could
That's awesome.
My bird died today and I want to perserve it
Tbh I think that's a great idea
The whole bird might be a bit much. I kept my conures feathers and made a dreamcatcher
We can use hand sanitizer too right? Cause I've seen some people use it and wanted to preserve my mantis.
You're collection has grown so much over the years it's amazing! I love that mouse he is so cute! Do you have a name picked out yet? :)
+Mad Hattress Thank you! I don't have one picked out yet, no. Do you have any suggestions? x
god.......
I brought a pig, heart, and brain from online and it comes preserved for one year in the package. These specimens that I brought are used for dissecting. Is there a way I can put them in a jar with alcohol or formalin to preserve them for a lifetime?
A beautiful indigo bunting hit my house and broke his neck. At the time I didn't know about preserving it but I kept his skeleton. His coloring was so beautiful I wish I could have perserved him exactly how I found him 😪
You know youve reached next level nutcase when you want this as decor
i'm scared of dead things but this looks cool!!!
OMG I FREAKING LOVE THIS!!
So you use only rubbing Al or metho
My female bearded dragon laid some infertile eggs, and I’m thinking of preserving them. Could I use hand sanitizer instead of alcohol? I feel like it’d keep the specimen more suspended, which would kinda look cool in the case of an egg.
You can not i almost strictly use formaldehyde but methyl or rubbing alcohol is probably the best bet
Sick, I can finally preserve that bowl of fetuses in my freezer
Where did you get that jar??? The one for the prawn??? It looks like the perfect size for my pet squirrel
Seeing that you have a few rats I was wondering if you injected anything into those rats or if you just put them into the jar with the solution?
This was very helpful, you should do one with bigger specimens as well!
+Sage “Swiftie” Shadows I'm glad! :D & I definitely will when I have more experience :)
Rhaveyn Awesome, looking forward to it!
formalin and formaldehyde are 2 different things formalin is formaldehyde is a gas and formalin is formaldehyde gas mixed with water as far as I know you can't preserve things in just formaldehyde
That was so helpful like girlll I’ve been trying to see stuff with instruction I love this ty ty ty
I found a dead bobcat and we took the head. Its mostly decomposed and has hardly any smell. Could I do this to it or would I be better off skinning it and keeping just the skull? Could I just continue drying it out with salt and then simply display it? Help!
This was a really good and informative recording...love the collection
Hello I would love to know about like what's it like if you would put a partial decomposing animal but it was decomposing by the elements and it was stiff. How would I preserve that?
Just a thought, maybe with the prawn, fill the jar with the liquid first then put the prawn in.
I preserve my the same way I've never heard about the straw thing that's interesting and I'll have to try it later it's really fun preserving small pinky mice and fuzzies because you can't really do much about the inside decay in their stomachs turn purple and you can see it through them because they're so tiny
+TheOdditiesShelf Aw, I really need to preserve some pinkies/fuzzies, I've been meaning to for years! That sounds so interesting to look at though, I'll keep an eye out for it when I finally get some. I think my preserved rat Basil (he's the black and white one in the video) had that with his hands and feet when I first preserved him but I think it eventually passed.
+Rhaveyn yeah it's really cool you can get them from the pet store where I'm at it's meant for snake food
+TheOdditiesShelf if you inject some of the preservative into the organs with a small syringe it will help with the discoloration. the organs usually decay because it takes awhile for the fluid to be absorbed that deep.
+Sabrina Donner I know :) I just don't have access to that. most items I scavenge I process for the bones anyways. I love natural science (obviously) so I'm trying to see how long it takes to reach an equilibrium of rotted and preserved flesh or if it will just rot out. I m not to worried about the specimen because Pinky's only cost 15¢ frozen from my local pet store. I buy good specimen off Instagram. but thanks I do appreciate your concern
How do you tell if the animal is dead and not just in a coma or something? Because I don't want to risk drowning an animal :(
If they're dead they're no longer breathing and don't have any pulse, they slowly start to lose color and body heat, and 5-7 hours(it also depends on the size of the animal) the body enters rigor mortis
I know nothing about comas but I know when somethings dead
Thank you for this tutorial. It's apparent you really love what you're doing! :)
Can you also tell me how to preserve a cow's intestines without having to keep it in a jar and in fluids?
My Ghoper snake Just died today.
I found her all stiff and unresponsive:(
But she didn't look the healthiest either when I got her, she was really thin and had been like that for a while, the wet said nothing was wrong with her and it's probably just poor genetics.
But either way I wanted to preserve her bc she is a rather pretty snake
i like ur channel how could i preserve beautifully my loving cat when they pass away i dont want to burried them?
as long as you clean it first (just water and soap) and find a big enough jar, you can put it in fine.
For this I would really suggest joining some Facebook groups, I would hate for you to attempt it and end up heartbroken if it didn't work, there are various groups that could lead you through the process 😊
Can you do this with plants?
did you try? I want to preserve fresh flowers!
Yes you can.
I have a bunch of Crawfish claws, I want to make them into jewelry, but I don't know how to preserve them so they don't rot and stink
I found two baby birds and I want to preserve them
(I named them: raindrops and rainstorm because I found them when it was raining)
They were dead before though ?
@@Y0oisaac yes I got home after a trip and found them lying on my door steps dead during a storm
@@Y0oisaac there was a birds nest near there and I ASUME that the fast winds of the storm had blown them out and had killed them but im not completely sure as I wasn’t there when it happened
Hello! A quick question. I live in Finland, and have no access to spirits or rubbing alcohol of high enough precentage since selling those is forbidden in Finland (too many drunks drinking them because they are cheap). Are there any alternatives? I heard someone say acetone could work, is that true? I reeeaally need help, since I have two little baby birds in the freezer ready for preserving
I actually have no idea if acetone would work, I suppose it could, but then it might destroy the specimen also. Thats only my instinctual answer though, I've no clue if thats really the case I'm afraid. :c
So you don't even have white spirits? Because that's probably the most likely to work that I can think of. I'm so sorry I can't be of more help, but if anyone who sees this thread has any ideas, feel free to shed us some light!
Rhaveyn Could alcohol made for drinking work? Vodka maybe? All the spirits made for cleaning and such have been coloured and infused with other chemicals.
Thank you for answering! I might try that acetone on something, I'll tell if it works out.
Vodka miiiight work, I think I've heard of snakes/scorpions being preserved in vodka as a kind of gaff thing, but the higher the alcohol percentage the better. :) Please let me know how it all goes! I'm curious now~
Ante vodka will work it's just more expensive
i am 15 so i can't get any of this?
Thank you for the help! I found a destroyed Jackdaw egg today and turns out there was a Jackdaw fetus in there. I really wanted to preserve it and make sure it is remembered
I didnt know you can use alcohol. I used salt and vinigar and it works great. down side it stinks and also the salt goes up the jar.
The music is beautiful.
Hi I think my pet rat is about to die of a neurological disorders. He is a pretty rat and I am looking in to ways how to preserve him. Maybe get his skeleton some how, or to put him in a bottle like you do.
I have Glycerol that is only 15% water, do you think it would work?
Heyy Heyy :D DO you have a bat?
I accidentally killed a bat and I'm planning to preserve it
Do you have any tips for posing?
I just watched another video where they weight the lower body with a small rock. They also elevated limbs with string. Make sure you tie the string as loose as you can to avoid indentation. Then put the lid on carefully to hold the string in place. Let sit for at least 2 months (8 weeks). Best of luck.
cn we do it in epoxy resin...and yea your voice is very cute
I have 2 baby snakes that were injected with alcohol by the seller before being preserved, Is this necessary for all wet specimens? Or is it only if it's a bigger animal
thanks :)
Well technically, I think it's best to do it for anything you're preserving so that it lasts, but I personally haven't done it for any of my wet specimens. They've all done quite well, I'm just not sure that all of them will last forever - my oldest one is about 7 years old and she's only now just starting to show a few little signs of decomposition, which is mainly to her feathers (and that would've happened even with injecting) and also a little bit of leakage from her beak. So I guess it depends on how set you are on having your piece last for eternity. :)
Yes, it is necessary, because the organs will rot and the water turn the solution blood-red. It is always best to inject it in the major muscles, through the anus, and behind the eyes.
Can you also do this with food (fruits, vegetables...) ? I need to preserve my fruits for 2 months for school and i tried putting epoxy on it but it just goes brown and starts to rot/mold :l
if anyone is still watching this 4 years later can flowers be put in as a form of decoration?
Yes you can
Have these rotted by now ? No formalin and no injecting i imagine they’ve rotted from the inside over the years?
Thank you for video! It's very helpful and informative! Love your channel ❤️
How do you find dead birds and animals that aren't rotting?
What's that stuff you poured into the jar???
Its rubbing alcohol
The little mouse is cute💙
He really is. I liked the little creature that was wearing a tiny shawl or sweater 🤗
You need to inject your specimen with formalin or ethanol before putting it in a jar
Do you recommend freezing them first? And should I get the solution inside it's body before freezing?
Can you preserve really dry animals?like when lizards die and they get all c r u s t y?
I want to preserve a baby rabbit that died form 1 of my litters to show my kids in science class a little lesson over death
Would it wrong for an octopus?
It's like museum of Dr. Hugo Strange in Gotham, I'll try this thanks
Preserving the body can be good, but mostly what if the smell spreads
It doesn’t look good when they are cramped and stuffed in a jar.
love your sweet voice
Aw, thank you! :'D
so cool i want to try this do i need to change the alcohol if things come loose from the animal?
Great video. I would have gone for an uncooked prawn though.
I know this is an old video but will this work for a beta fish? Or will it lose color? My beta just died and I dont want to get rid of him 😫
nice collection! do you ever have to change the fluid? I found a shrew that I need to find something to do with and this seems perfect.
A setting up bones video would be awesome.... So any little pieces and trying to find out the best thing to connect them all.....
+Bloody Vampire Like skeleton articulation? I could do that for sure! I just finished cleaning up a large rat skeleton, so maybe I'll do a time-lapse video of me reassembling it :)
Oh thank you! =D
You're very welcome! I may take a little while to make the video, but I'll do my best to get it done as soon as I'm able to :)
Oh that's fine, I get how busy life can be and how long it can take to get around to doing a video, no worries! =]
Thank you for understanding, I appreciate it! :)
can u show us like what they look like in your room kinda like a room tour with dead animals XD ?? also very interesting i would like to do this but as a vegan and since my family probably wouldint be too pleased with it i cant do it i did once cut off a dead squirrels foot and jaw and paw to make it into a necklace (i bleached it so it was ok i never caught a disease or anything)
Definitely! I actually keep them in my studio now, so when I do an art studio tour, you'll get to see. :) I'll probably also do a video on my new shelves that I keep them on, but not for a while yet!
Aw, a lot of people tell me they can't collect dead things because they're vegan, but I started collecting back when I was vegetarian and a lot of the really well known collectors who have super high-end pieces are vegan, so I wouldn't let that stop you. :) Of course, I respect your decision though, you've got to do what feels right to you. :)
And that's awesome, do you still have any of it? :D
yay thats gonna be awesome and sadly no i dont have any of it left :C i lost them and also now that i know that i probably will do it as long as my mothers ok with it hahaha
Aw, that's a shame! I guess they'd be very tiny, so easy to lose?
You should! :) It's really about how/where you obtain the remains more than it being an animal product in general imo. Beause if you see a bone on the side of the road, you may as well pick it up since it's otherwise just going to sit there and turn to dust, you know what I mean?
Do you think this would work with a bigger goldfish ? I have a 6-7 inch goldfish that is quite wide . Do you think I meed to inject it as well ? How would you go about injecting it ? Can you do it while its frozen ?
Omg yes reject shop jar for the mouse, I have the same one with my pygmy dragon in it
My 4 year old fan tail gold fish just died 2 days ago and I was wondering if I could do the same shown in this video.
Will my hamster decay slowly in the jar? I wanted to try this to keep my hamster cause taxidermy costs a lot.
Also my hamster is in the freezer right now and it wouldn't be easy to open his mouth unless I thaw him out🥺
What do I need to manipulate to preserve an adult squirrel, based on your example of the mouse? Thank you so much in advance. 🤍
Hi! I have a question, do I have to change the liquid? And if so, how much time apart from each other? It would be wonderful if You can please help me.
never mind I just read the last part about changing the liquid!
Would this method work with a decapitated mink head? I found the poor little guy half eaten at my family’s cabin last summer and have had it in my freezer since
By any chance would this work on a fish?
Do you know how to preserve a box turtle, she's little, but I want to preserve her, and I have no idea how too.
Can you use 70% isopropyl alcohol to preserve it? And can you add food coloring? Where do you get the animals normally, like birds?
Great video and very informative.
