Troy Bilt 2410 Storm Engine Surge and Gasket Fix

  • Fix a surging snowblower engine and make a DIY gasket. If you cleaned the carburetor of your Troy Bilt engine and it still surges (revs up and down), do this to it.
I also used a gasket maker goo, though it's recommended not to use on parts that have contact with gasoline (do as I say, not as I do).
If you have a couple days to wait before the snow blows, carburetors are actually pretty cheap, and replacing them might be the best solution. Here is a complete replacement kit from Amazon (affiliate link): amzn.to/36iaNvP Look for one that fits your model.

Thanks for posting this! I have a 2016 Troy Bilt 2410. In terms of getting the cover off, my choke knob and throttle knob just had to be pried off. I hit them with a little WD-40 first because they were very tight and I thought I was going to crack on them. The hole on the jet is super small and I would have liked to drilled it out with the #60 drill that Bob Evoy mentioned but I didn't have anything that small, so I cleaned it with a wire bristle that I cut off of a stiff brush. No more surge and I'm very grateful because no one else mentioned this!

This girls video is great. I've had to do this several times to mine since it sits for long periods of time, even with gas additives. I'm not embarrassed I have to watch this video every time. I have lots of small engines to maintain so I can't remember them all.

Very interesting. Thanks for the tip, queen. I was just in there today to clean some of the carb in 30 degree weather, and thankfully that got her running again, and she's a _little_ bit surgey, but running almost like new. I'll take a look at that jet if she gets bad again, or in the springtime before business ramps up. I know it's a homeowner model, but I was disappointed to see all of the plastic around the carb 🤷‍♂️

Do this over a clean swept floor so small parts don't fall on the floor and get lost.Especially the sleeves on the carb mounting screws.

Thanks for the fix, I just bought my 2410 at menards. Once I got it put together at home and started it for the first time I immediately noticed the surging of the engine. Your fix worked, saved me loading back up a 200lb snow blower to the bed of my truck, one thing I would add, the screw (d) shaped, was loose so when I did your fix I ran the screw back I snug, I was wrong because once started the rpms were very high, so I backed it off 2 turns, that did it rpms were normal..

Thanks Marta for sharing this with everyone. I have a 2015 Storm 2410, where it would only run on choke or partial choke. I first cleaned the bottom parts of the carburetor because it was easy to access the bowl without removing anything else The issue turned out to be a clogged Idle Jet Assembly, as shown in this video. To fix I removed the carburetor, pulled out the clogged Idle Jet Assembly (black plastic piece on top), soaked it in carb cleaner, and then reamed it out with one metal bristle pulled out of a metal brush.

Thanks a ton! This fix did it for me as well. My TroyBilt Storm 2460 snowblower probably only had less than 10 hours on it for its first season last year and then it sat in the shed all spring/summer. Took it out today to make sure we were ready for winter. It started on the first pull. I thought all was well until I let it warm up and then the pulsing/surging began. Being that it was relatively new, I figured I'd shoot some carb cleaner in there and cross my fingers. Well, after many shoots, I didn't score. Until I found this post!

Funny, I was responding to your original comment with that same answer. Mine didn't look clogged either. I wonder if it was just the act of pulling it out and reinserting that made it work. And you're welcome. From now on I'll use non-ethanol gas in it only.

Thank goodness you made this ! I had a near new (2017) customer return Troy Bilt and nothing helped the surging engine till this fairly easy fix. I've even seen posts that the surging engine was normal if you'd opened the choke too far. Can't thank you enough. Why the heck isn't this in the Troy Bilt troubleshooting guide. Only lament is it doesn't throw snow much farther but at least I know this isn't the reason.

I didn’t remove this part tho, and from your video I couldn’t see clearly where it was. But once I find it and clean it I should get it fixed and running smoothly?

Great job on this vid.....I was chasing the same problem on a brand new machine at that. If cleaning the jet doesnt work which it didnt for me......use a micro drill bit to bore the jet out to the next size up. use common sense....I am saying a micro drill bit..they are tiny....put the drill bit in a vice then spin the jet on the drill bit until the bit pokes though the jet.....once it does...clean it and re install.....this really works!!!!

I think that plastic tube is the idle jet. If that doesn't work, buy yourself a Chinese made carb on Ebay, or Amazon. It is hard to clean an old carb very well if you don't have tools and small engines knowledge. Cleaning the jets is only half of the job. I tried all those cleanings and it didn't work. A new carb fixed it.

Did not work for my Troy-bilt 2620 (bought 8-9 years ago). I used 80drill bit, then 76 no improvement. I finally bought a brand new carburetor, replaced, and still have the same bad issue, very bad surging! - ?? Next step would be to clean / or replace fuel line going from fuel tank...
