For this car review, I took out the Turbo Diesel Dacia Duster 4x4. This one is a Laureate, the top spec model. There are a few extras this one doesn't have though. I'll never understand why people never spec a Dacia with the leather interior considering how cheap an extra it is. This one did have the styling upgrade (standard with Laurette spec), the nav option and alloy wheels.
Dacia are know for cheap, entry level, simple low fuss products. With that in mind I expected cost savings and in the wrong areas before my time spent with this car but was shocked to fond the EXACT opposite! All the areas where lazy cost savings could have been made; no spare wheel, no gas lifter (engine bay), lack of seat adjustment, rear winder windows. None of those are a problem here. Dacia are doing things right where it counts.
I'm hoping to see Dacia's 7 seat MPV in the UK soon. So far, dealers are not selling them here and I honestly think the market is now ready for them and that they would sell reasonably well. The diesel 1.5 engine is pretty strong if well maintained but the market seems to be full of the smaller capacity petrol engine mostly at this moment in time.
Don't expect self-parking systems, blind spot monitoring and electric memory air con seats. If it's basic motoring your after, the Dacia does it well.
Pros: good viewing position for drivers, surprising quality vs price, durable easy repair design, comfortable seating and ride quality for price, +30hp increase in performance with a simple ECU remap.
Cons: Hard to get in the used market with very little choice and fast re-sale, high residual value compared to price (could also be a PRO), almost impossible to find a leather interior in the used market, lacking in features and accessories compared to other models.
