No, its disney and capitalism. Doesn't matter the figurehead they put "in charge." Star wars as a franchise is not compatible with the strict adherence to commercialism you must abide by underneath capitalism. Corporations ignore the political aspects of star wars that make it as good as it is and focus on commercializing its most banal parts as a franchise. Andor is the closest thing to "true" star wars. But even that wasnt very ambitious as it retreads old ground while also failing to encapsulate the fantasy and more spiritual aspects of Star Wars.
I was excited about The Force Awakens when it came out. I was a bit bummed that they copied A New Hope but I was so hopeful about the future of Star Wars and then the writing team totally screwed the pooch.
Gonna be really freaking weird looking at younger Anakin Skywalker force ghost and older Luke Skywalker ghost with the younger one being the older one's father.
Anakin died when he became Darth Vader. Once he was redeemed by Luke in episode six he then reverted back to Anakin Skywalker before the fall to the dark side that’s why we see him as his young self as a force ghost.

The “Anakin died in RoTS” narrative only works if he were to die as Darth Vader. Reality is there is not enough interest among fans to justify deep faking in David Prowse as old Anakin. Hayden is both available, popular, and likely much cheaper than deep fake David Prowse.

There's a rumor that Iger had some market research done and learned that R2 and Grogu were the most popular characters. So they, and a "mystery character" from The Mandalorian, are rumored to be in this movie to make Rey more popular. Now either they seem to be adding in Luke and Anakin also, or they've swapped out Grogu and R2 for Luke and Anakin. Whatever it is, I'm not interested. I've had enough bait and switch from these people.
Snoke was supposed to be the grand villain pulling the strings and goading Kylo to the Dark Side. The problem is Rian Johnson destroyed everything by killing off Snoke like a total chump. Then they were like - we don't have a main villain for the 3rd movie umm ok bring back Palpatine even though that destroys Anakin's sacrifice in the OT to finally kill off the Emperor and "bring balance back to the force".

There's no Rey w/out Ben Solo. Disney should continue the Ben Solo story, show how he was corrupted like they showed how Anakin was corrupted. Since Rey & Ben are a dyad maybe she could help him return & he could continue to right his wrongs. Luke should return a force ghost & continue to share his wisdom as the ultimate Jedi.
I would watch that. At this point I don’t have much hope that they would give us that thought. I would prefer they leave the Skywalker legacy alone and give more of the galaxy ie, the founding of the Republic, the split between the Jedi/Sith at the beginning, or something farther in the future if they can’t do justice to Rey and/or Ben. Ben and Rey was always the plan. Ben is the Skywalker and it was the Skywalker Saga. Finn and Rey can't work because Ben gave his life for Rey and she calls herself a Skywalker. Ben and Rey are basically soulmates per both Rian and JJ via the Dyad concept.
I'll say this much. I already pay for a D+ sub. There's no way in hell I'm also going to go pay for movie tickets and all the other associated costs until I know undoubtedly, that it'll be worth watching. And that goes for all Star Wars content going forward honestly.
Think about it this way. Marvel nerds appreciate Kevin Feige's dedication to respecting comics and maintaining canon/continuity as much as possible. Kathleen Kennedy denies the existence of the now "legends" source material. Therefore the most loyal, most invested, star wars fans are not hyping the movie. They're not attracting new fans by talking up the craziness, the magnificence of the story. Instead they are bitter that the hero's they've looked up to and identified with as kids and young adults are being disrespected and forgotten. So paying lip service to these hero's in a Rey movie doesn't interest them. The new jedi order is what Luke built in the old expanded universe (now legends). The story can be adapted into a magnficient movie series just like the infinity saga. And new character of color anf more women can be woven into the stories to reflect the changing times. This wasn't done and so the fanbase is divided. Until Luke gets his time in the limelight reflecting the stories of the expanded universe, the star wars community will not heal. Its as simple as that. Thus WE don't want Lucasfilm to focus on a movie that gives expanded universe's Luke stories to Rey. I have spoken.

I’d love to see the Skywalkers in a scene together post-death. That has incredible potential for a great story with huge depth. Learning from each other’s mistakes and building upon that with Hayden further redeeming his character further and Mark perhaps getting to do with his character closer to what he wanted
Sad that none of them will actually be the ones we knew and loved, in the end we might still get Jake Skywalker, some Disneyfied version of Anakin Skywalker and not to mention that Ben will not even make an appearance
Episodes 7-9 are the only Star Wars live action projects that feel like “products”. Animation is KILLING IT. Non-Skywalker movies KILLING IT. Live action shows KILLING IT.
The merchandising when the prequels came out was not matched at all by the sequels. They had figures of even the most obscure characters. Disney on the other hand had repeats of figures, selling the same Poe Dameron figure with new packaging three times. 😂

I think the main reason people aren't excited is because it's simply too late for them to do these things. Making Anakin come back as a force ghost literally does nothing but trivialize the *entirety* of the sequel trilogy. Hearing these rumors doesn't make me excited, it makes me sad. If they're willing to include things like Anakin's force ghost now, when it makes *no* sense to do so, then they must be aware of the fact that it should've been done in the first place. And if they're aware of such a catastrophic mistake, but won't admit it or try to re-make things the right way, that is incredibly saddening. The fact that this film is being made, and that they are trying to double down on the sequels makes me incredibly depressed for the future of Star Wars.

Won’t happen. DC isn’t a good equivalent. The comics aren’t being directly adapted and are just influence. The sequels were the direct continuation of the original trilogy with the same actors for the original characters. They would never admit they messed up. Plus there are also fans of the sequels they don’t want to piss off
I loved the Mandalorian. It became my favorite part of Star Wars. The Bad Batch was fun. However when I realized going forward they are flushing out the sequel trilogy. I lost all interest

just to play devils advocate, can’t we argue that lucas film also tried to reinvigorate and make more money on the prequels by releasing the clone wars? that show definitely made fans appreciate the prequels and explained a lot of questions and criticisms fans had.
The prequels sucked. Only seen good now compared to the horrible sequels. Unless you are in your 30s now. That seems to be about the age group that the prequels hit at the perfect time and they liked them.
The prequels had a much stronger story to expand of of. While the execution of the films was mixed, the story and most of the lore was intact. The sequel trilogy clearly had no interest in making the legacy characters heroes and tore them down so that the new characters could replace them. It felt like a new male Lion defeating the old one, then killing all the cubs so he could mate with the lionesses and starting a whole new generation. Except now , no one likes the new generation
Difference was that the prequels, even badly written, was still so much better in story telling than the sequels. Toys were cooler as well because they actually tried to do something new. The clone wars then made the whole "build your own lightsaber" thing that sold like gang busters. Disney saw this and salivated so they bought the franchise from Lucas for billions. Now they are losing a lot of money on the table outside the sequel trilogy, which got less and less profit as it went on. Toys didn't sell, costumes didn't sell other than Kylo Ren. Shit wasn't looking good until the mandalorian came around with Grogu. Their video games were terrible until fallen order and that was like 10 years late. So all the money Lucas was making back in the day, isn't even close to what Disney is making now. The high republic is a failure of a project, the sequels are a dead era...it's just so dead outside Ahsoka

I like this idea. And I think its not unlikely. Bringing back the heroes from the classic-trilogy, the prequel-trilogy and the sequel-trilogy is the right way in my opinion. But to be excited or frustrated is a little early. We dont know what this movie is even about?

Josh...even the people working on this (potential) film are confused about what this film is about. A writer was "asked to leave", after penning a script, where Rey was around age 80...now, it's going to be a film where Rey is a very youthful 35 years old, very much in the thick of creating a new Jedi Order. After immensely enjoying The 40th Anniversary Edition re-release of Return Of The Jedi, I'm NEVER watching any films, TV, or Streaming series that are strongly and/or directly acknowledging the events of Disney's Sequel Trilogy. Inserting Jedi Grandmaster Luke Skywalker and The Chosen One, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker in to a Rey-centric stand alone movie, in some ways, turns me off even more. The only Father and Son reunion (between Anakin and Luke) I'm looking forward to, is in The Mandoverse; preferably the theatrical release from Dave Filoni & Team, where such a meeting belongs.
You don't announce a Star Wars film, attempting to redeem a character and put someone in charge who has little to no experience making feature length films. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is such a Kathleen Kennedy thing to do and the reason why I have very little confidence in this film, and I actually want it to be good. It's one saving grace is Steven Knight is writing the script.

If she had any foresight about how to bring Star Wars into a new era it would be to find the talent and then let them create. Anyhow. She 'found' a lady who 'loves to make men uncomfortable', has never directed a major movie before, and whose only production credentials are documentaries about women and a couple episodes of Ms. Marvel. If it even gets made, this new Rey movie is going to be such a burning TRASH FIRE of a movie!
If that were true, she would have made sure Mangold was directing the Rey film. He has a proven track record. Sharmeen being hired as the director is such a Kathleen Kennedy move that I am not confident will work. I have a massive plot leak. Rey is going to turn full SITH and Finn and Poe, now a strong force dyad, will attempt to turn her back to the light but ultimately fail so they take her down with a team of force ghosts like plo koon, kit fisto, Jaro Tapal, Mace
KK is the worst. The SW Fandom will never be the same again. She caused irreparable damage to the point that if they continue on with the Sequel era a huge portion of the fandom is pissed. If they retcon the Sequels, this other portion is pissed. Either way someone is unhappy, so I say rip the band-aid off, fire KK, retcon sequels (at least in part) and move on to something new.
They should make this episode 10. The beginnings of the New Order. Then have a time Jump of 10 more years when raise kids are in the order training. Then raise kids take over episode 12

I would watch that. At this point I don’t have much hope that they would give us that thought. I would prefer they leave the Skywalker legacy alone and give more of the galaxy ie, the founding of the Republic, the split between the Jedi/Sith at the beginning, or something farther in the future if they can’t do justice to Rey and/or Ben. For the record I rather see Finn and Rey be in this movie together and get together romantically instead of a force romance between Kylo Ren and Rey that romance between them came out of nowhere and that kiss between them wasn't even romantic even JJADAMS said so infact Daisy Ridley said that her character hated Kylo Ren so why did they get them together romantically instead of getting Finn and Rey together romantically it was sooooo hinted in the Force Awakening and build back up that romance between them. Ben and Rey was always the plan. Ben is the Skywalker and it was the Skywalker Saga. Finn and Rey can't work because Ben gave his life for Rey and she calls herself a Skywalker. Ben and Rey are basically soulmates per both Rian and JJ via the Dyad concept.
I'll say this much. I already pay for a D+ sub. There's no way in hell I'm also going to go pay for movie tickets and all the other associated costs until I know undoubtedly, that it'll be worth watching. And that goes for all Star Wars content going forward honestly.
Think about it this way. Marvel nerds appreciate Kevin Feige's dedication to respecting comics and maintaining canon/continuity as much as possible. Kathleen Kennedy denies the existence of the now "legends" source material. Therefore the most loyal, most invested, star wars fans are not hyping the movie. They're not attracting new fans by talking up the craziness, the magnificence of the story. Instead they are bitter that the hero's they've looked up to and identified with as kids and young adults are being disrespected and forgotten. So paying lip service to these hero's in a Rey movie doesn't interest them. The new jedi order is what Luke built in the old expanded universe (now legends). The story can be adapted into a magnficient movie series just like the infinity saga. And new character of color anf more women can be woven into the stories to reflect the changing times. This wasn't done and so the fanbase is divided. Until Luke gets his time in the limelight reflecting the stories of the expanded universe, the star wars community will not heal. Its as simple as that. Thus WE don't want Lucasfilm to focus on a movie that gives expanded universe's Luke stories to Rey. I have spoken.

I’d love to see the Skywalkers in a scene together post-death. That has incredible potential for a great story with huge depth. Learning from each other’s mistakes and building upon that with Hayden further redeeming his character further and Mark perhaps getting to do with his character closer to what he wanted
Sad that none of them will actually be the ones we knew and loved, in the end we might still get Jake Skywalker, some Disneyfied version of Anakin Skywalker and not to mention that Ben will not even make an appearance

The merchandising when the prequels came out was not matched at all by the sequels. They had figures of even the most obscure characters. Disney on the other hand had repeats of figures, selling the same Poe Dameron figure with new packaging three times. 😂

I think the main reason people aren't excited is because it's simply too late for them to do these things. Making Anakin come back as a force ghost literally does nothing but trivialize the *entirety* of the sequel trilogy. Hearing these rumors doesn't make me excited, it makes me sad. If they're willing to include things like Anakin's force ghost now, when it makes *no* sense to do so, then they must be aware of the fact that it should've been done in the first place. And if they're aware of such a catastrophic mistake, but won't admit it or try to re-make things the right way, that is incredibly saddening. The fact that this film is being made, and that they are trying to double down on the sequels makes me incredibly depressed for the future of Star Wars.

I loved the Mandalorian. It became my favorite part of Star Wars. The Bad Batch was fun. However when I realized going forward they are flushing out the sequel trilogy. I lost all interest
42 year old lifelong Star Wars fan here that will not, I repeat will NOT, go see this movie! Everything since the masterpiece that ended season 2 of the Mandolorian (except for Andor) has been absolute garbage. It’s just sad! But I give up and all I can say the reason is … Kathleen Kennedy! just to play devils advocate, can’t we argue that lucas film also tried to reinvigorate and make more money on the prequels by releasing the clone wars? that show definitely made fans appreciate the prequels and explained a lot of questions and criticisms fans had.

The prequels sucked. Only seen good now compared to the horrible sequels. Unless you are in your 30s now. That seems to be about the age group that the prequels hit at the perfect time and they liked them.
The prequels had a much stronger story to expand of of. While the execution of the films was mixed, the story and most of the lore was intact. The sequel trilogy clearly had no interest in making the legacy characters heroes and tore them down so that the new characters could replace them. It felt like a new male Lion defeating the old one, then killing all the cubs so he could mate with the lionesses and starting a whole new generation. Except now , no one likes the new generation
Difference was that the prequels, even badly written, was still so much better in story telling than the sequels. Toys were cooler as well because they actually tried to do something new.
The clone wars then made the whole "build your own lightsaber" thing that sold like gang busters.
Disney saw this and salivated so they bought the franchise from Lucas for billions. Now they are losing a lot of money on the table outside the sequel trilogy, which got less and less profit as it went on.
Toys didn't sell, costumes didn't sell other than Kylo Ren. Shit wasn't looking good until the mandalorian came around with Grogu.
Their video games were terrible until fallen order and that was like 10 years late.
So all the money Lucas was making back in the day, isn't even close to what Disney is making now. The high republic is a failure of a project, the sequels are a dead era...it's just so dead outside Ahsoka

I like this idea. And I think its not unlikely. Bringing back the heroes from the classic-trilogy, the prequel-trilogy and the sequel-trilogy is the right way in my opinion. But to be excited or frustrated is a little early. We dont know what this movie is even about?

Josh...even the people working on this (potential) film are confused about what this film is about. A writer was "asked to leave", after penning a script, where Rey was around age 80...now, it's going to be a film where Rey is a very youthful 35 years old, very much in the thick of creating a new Jedi Order. After immensely enjoying The 40th Anniversary Edition re-release of Return Of The Jedi, I'm NEVER watching any films, TV, or Streaming series that are strongly and/or directly acknowledging the events of Disney's Sequel Trilogy. Inserting Jedi Grandmaster Luke Skywalker and The Chosen One, Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker in to a Rey-centric stand alone movie, in some ways, turns me off even more. The only Father and Son reunion (between Anakin and Luke) I'm looking forward to, is in The Mandoverse; preferably the theatrical release from Dave Filoni & Team, where such a meeting belongs.
You don't announce a Star Wars film, attempting to redeem a character and put someone in charge who has little to no experience making feature length films. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is such a Kathleen Kennedy thing to do and the reason why I have very little confidence in this film, and I actually want it to be good. It's one saving grace is Steven Knight is writing the script.

It’s safe to say that KK is simply trying a last ditch effort to save her own ass! If she had any foresight about how to bring Star Wars into a new era it would be to find the talent and then let them create. Anyhow. Where we are at is a thinly veiled attempt to recoup any opportunity remaining, and sadly so, to keep her job.
KK 'found' a talent though! She 'found' a lady who 'loves to make men uncomfortable', has never directed a major movie before, and whose only production credentials are documentaries about women and a couple episodes of Ms. Marvel. If it even gets made, this new Rey movie is going to be such a burning TRASH FIRE of a movie!
If that were true, she would have made sure Mangold was directing the Rey film. He has a proven track record. Sharmeen being hired as the director is such a Kathleen Kennedy move that I am not confident will work. You want to believe KK and Lucasfilm have learned from their mistakes, but this gives me no confidence in this film, and I actually want it to be good.

They should make this episode 10. The beginnings of the New Order. Then have a time Jump of 10 more years when raise kids are in the order training. Then raise kids take over episode 12
