Thanks for this. It's the first time that I've seen the motor being held instead of mounted to a frame while it was run. I think you have just saved me a lot of time and money.
Great start-up demonstration David. I bought the same outboard last fall and have given it a good carb cleaning and fluid changes. It starts right up as yours did. Enjoy your time on the water!
Great Video, which is better in terms of engine performance, the ease of starting , power, and maintenance.... is it Mercury 3.5HP or Honda 2.3HP ? I will use it for my Inflatable boat and will need to lie it down when transporting it in the back of my car ... what you recommend ?
Mine is very hard to start after I turn it off from running for a little while if I wait like an hour or so then it's easy sometimes but sometimes it's a big pain in the ass to start it
Interesting. The first year I had this one I would have said the same thing. I bought it used. After replacing the carburator and discovering and replacing a cracked fuel tank that let water in the fuel, It has run great.

Both are great engines. the Honda 2.5 is air cooled and very lightweight. It lacks the power of the 3.5 but either will push a small dinghy along

I had that exact problem too. In fact it took a new carburetor and fuel tank, which was cracked, to get the engine to run right.
Question what kind of gas do you put in in is it mixed
Four stroke takes regular gas no oil mixed in.
Does it also start in forward position or is than a gear save engaged?
Thanks for watching! The 3.5 hp, like most motors will only start in neutral
To less water in the bucket you can hear the muffer, Thats no good. Greetings from the Netherlands
Excellent point!
I wish mine would.start first time bought new two years ago takes dozens of pulls before it will start I will never buy one of these engines again.
I have one and its a piece of junk. Dies. Sputters. Has zero balls. Total rip off.

Did you ever get it running?
Pointless exercise and watch.
