If you run a list without Harlequins but take the conductor of torment enhancement, it basically becomes spend a pain token to get army wide reroll 1s until you kill something. Might be worth it with the alpha strike potential.
Dark Eldar player here. I have 0 interest in this Detachment. I was hoping our Grotmas Detachment would focus on the Dark Eldar, not on the Harlequins. I really think Harlequins need to go back to being their own codex with their own Detachments and rules. Their lore, flavor, and aesthetic is entirely different from the Dark Eldar, and I personally have 0 interest in ever owning any of their miniatures. That said, I am sure Harlequin players who were fucked over by Games Workshop this edition will enjoy the new Detachment. And I do like how flavorful this Detachment is. But it's a shame, because this doesn't feel like a new Drukhari detachment.
Yeah this has to be one of the worst grotmas detachments for an already badly treated faction because it requires you buy basically a whole other army. Just play the fabious bile detachment chaos got which is a carbon copy of 9th e combat drugs and exchange the chaos keywords for drukhari ones.
At first I was so disappointed. I really wanted something for my 500pts of coven (I only play 1k so thats a lot!). However, the stratagems are still pretty awesome. This is probably the best detatchment for Drazhar as well. Lethal hits or Sustained for anything/anytime, fight on death, advance and charge... theres only one niche stratagem here, and you only need to add in a death jester and maybe some skyweavers/solitaire to make use of the rule. It might be better than RSR which wasnt giving you a real detachment rule anyway. Still sad about my covens, and will be hard to pick from this or the -1 to wound, but they still benefit from many of the strats.
I'm sure some Drukhari/Harlequin enjoyers will like this but I own 2 of the Clowns - A Death Jester and a Solitaire. This detachment is disappointing but has some amazing strategems. It's a big shame
As long as they can't target you where you start to move, I think you can use the strat to turn off overwatch after you move rather than before, because you are the active player, so you choose the order.
This detachment looks very good, and the anti overwatch seems like a match made in hell for these tiny glass canons. The amount of times they have disembarked with all the bells and whistles and rerolls and bonuses, only to get charred to a crisp by my heavy flamers ... Sometimes i even felt bad for my opponent. A lot of people seem very negative on the aesthetic. I understand, but that doesnt affect me, as i like to play with cool GW models, heavily modified ones, and out right 3d printed alternarives that look better than the original or fit my taste more. If i didn't like the Harlequinn aesthetic, i would just run some alternative models closer to the Drukhari aesthetic.
Can you please explain the interaction between Webway Walker and Rapid Ingress? I dont think it works they way to claim it does in the video. The re-roll charge bonus only last until the end of the turn.
You are right. The only way it would work is if the unit rapid ingresses and then is able to heroic intervention. Very niche usage but the enhancement allows for many more options when considering reserves.
Yep, rerolling the charge only works on the turn it came into play on while also needing to be "Losing the wager". So if you wanted to deep strike and Archon with some Incubi you have to deep strike, not shoot with any of your Drukhari or be 100% sure that you will kill something with your Harlequin shooting before the charge phase. That's a lot of effort and the result most likely ends up with you burning a CP to reroll the charge anyways.
so the idea here is you rapid ingress to the position you need and then in your turn you are as close as possible (safe and in cover) to your opponents unit you need to hit then you can advance and charge from a forward postion with re roll charges
@@VanguardTacticsI get the classic rapid ingress into a safe spot to help your next turn charge. I was just confused why you highlighted the re-roll charges aspect of the enhancement as it doesn't work when you rapid ingress. Is the excitement more about the deepstrike?
As a Dark Eldar player - I'm disappointed. Sure, Harlequins are cool, but I don't want them in my Dark Eldar army. Plus, I'd wager (heh) that most Dark Eldar players don't own enough (or, in fact, any) Harlequins to use this army. This detachment's idea of inter-army competition already exists in Dark Eldar lore- just make it between the Kabals, Cults, and Covens instead of Drukhari and Harlequins.
I got into the game as a kid during the start of 6th edition. Left the game-aspect of the hobby in 2014 when the game shop closed, but was always 'in' the hobby as far as just lore / videos / etc goes. Been getting back into the hobby this year, with Drukhari once more because they have remained my favorite army since I was a kid. And PERSONALLY, I was hoping for a detachment that would really incentivize running Gunboat Spam. Or, if they wanted to do something whacky, a detachment that makes Reavers and Hellions battleline units, and have this same detachment, but instead of a Harlequin & Drukhari rivalry, have it be Reaver Gangs and Hellion Gangs having a rivalry. I dunno, that's just a random idea. No idea if it's remotely good or interesting, I'm not a rules designer. HOWEVER, I have 0 interest in Harlequins. Their aesthetic is entirely different from Dark Eldar, and I will likely never own a single Harlequin miniature. So this detachment is, to me, essentially nothing.
Problem is, we already have the “Drukhari soup” detachment and a lot of people don’t enjoy it. After that, the main ways to run the army that could have been made into a detachment lean heavily into one of the three prongs of the army. It’d be strange to get one of our core codex detachments before the codex. Imagine if we just got a Wych or Covens detachment and the other two are left with nothing. A lot of Grotmas detachments have just been weird fun stuff and this definitely goes in that category.
@@Alino-okay your Hellion vs Reavers detachment actually sounds sick as fuck because both of those need some love. Personally I like the harlequin presence in Commorragh, but im pretty new to warhammer. My only exposure to their relationship was in The Queen of Knives book and it seemed fairly well intertwined. I also always thought Quins were cool and that this would give me a good excuse to waste some money on them.
Feels like based on the wording of 'you can take' rather than 'must take', you can run the army without any single Harlequins. In that regard, take the conductor of torment and just always have reroll hit and wounds of 1s
Dark eldar armies are rare. Harlies are absurdly rare. So that leaves like... 0.01% of 40k players that can even attempt to field an army with this list? Too niche, unfortunately.
I think the reason for that is because Dark Eldar haven't had a meaningful range update in over a decade, despite being one of the game's older armies. They haven't had an entirely new unit since their 5th edition codex came out, but they HAVE continuously lost units, to the point they have like 65% as many options as they used to have. They're my favorite army, and personally, I have no interest in this detachment. I think a lot of people trying to talk this detachment up are doing so because they're trying to cope with how annoying it is that THIS is our grotmas detachment.
Nice video guys but same here : 0 interest in Harlequins... They are very underpowered and so are Drukhari in melee without Lance so I don't see the point in this. Granted the strats are pretty good but might as well play SA or RSR.
As a Drukhari player i hate this. I dont want to play harlequins. Theres only 2 detachments for drukhari, but they do a good job at representing parts of their faction. Realspace Raiders represent the fragile cooperation between the subfactions of their society, and Skysplinter Assault represents the transport focused, getin-getout aspect of their raids. This wager crap does nothing to represent them, its just lame. Imagine a detachment that represents drukharis deceitfulness, and how much cooler it would be! 1CP to get "fights first" when charged, luring enemies to a trap. 1CP to redirect a single weapons fire from an enemy unit into an ally unit within 3", representing their willingness to backstab even each other to succeed. It would be so much cooler than this nothing burguer. We get only 3 detachments, and one of them isnt even about us!!
I have 0 interest in Harlequins, which means 0 interest in this detachment. I think if they REALLY wanted a purely "fluffy" and "thematic" detachment this christmas, instead of the rivalry being between Drukhari and Harlequins, it would've been cooler to do something like making Reavers and Hellions into battleline units and having it be a rivalry between Reaver Gangs and Hellion Gangs. But even then I'm like, ehhh. I was just hoping for an evasive shooty gunboat detachment.
I'm half tempted to send Bricky an ominous tweet of "Remember when you hated Eldar flyers?" because of the detachment they got today. Whole lot better than what this one is
