The Anniversary two-color sunburst finish on the Fender Player Stratocaster harkens back to the look of the original 1954 Strat that started it all. However, the Player Stratocaster also represents the model’s ergonomic and tonal evolutions with a comfy C-shape neck (rather than the chunky D shape of the ’54), pau ferro fretboard (instead of maple), alder body (original body wood was ash), a flatter 9.5" radius (as opposed to 7.25" in 1954), 22 medium-jumbo frets (the original had 21 very small frets) and modern Player Series single coils (whereas the Strat debuted with Alnico III pickups).
“This guitar does a really nice job of encapsulating 70 years of Strats because it’s channeling the original sunburst finish, but it’s definitely a modern Strat of today,” says Nashville-raised guitarist and producer Melanie Faye (Russ, Masego, Willow Smith, Maggie Rogers). “I started playing guitar because of Guitar Hero III, and what drew me to Fender was that all of my idols-such as Eric Johnson-played Stratocasters. I actually purchased my first Strat-in Cerulean Blue-at Guitar Center. I saved my money from working at a sandwich shop in the 12th grade making $7.25 per hour.”
Fender's Player Stratocaster in Anniversary 2-Color Sunburst also includes an updated two-point tremolo, 5-way pickup selector switch and sealed, diecast tuning machines.

IMO, some of the PF Pau Ferro fingerboards used on Players today, remind me of the old Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard Fender put on the SRV USA Signature Fender Stratocaster. Utterly luxurious and unique :)
