  • This is a Manta Cars Montage body kit of the legendary McLaren M6GT from 1970.
Based to fit a VW Bug chassis.
This is the car that was used on the TV show Hardcastle & McCormick in the early 80's.
I built this car by myself over the winter and it was road ready the first time in 5 months, it was a daily driver for 3 years.
After an accident that nearly totaled the car I totally re did the design, drove it as a daily driver for another 4 years and eventually sold it.
Contact me if you have any questions.
    Thank you for watching.

I remember watching you build this car when I worked at mowers and motors. Never see it white but loved it when it was red. Still to this day it's the best build I've seen! There's a fiberglass kit car close to your design close buy that I've thought time and time again about buying. Cool to see this vid!

Long time ago, how are you doing? Yes it got hit and rebuilt and painted white then I sold it. You were driving a truck then.

Where did you find the Lambo hinges for the doors?

    • @HandyDan
      @HandyDan  2 месяца назад +1

On this kit car it was just a simple hinge mounted to the top inside edge of the fender and another small pivot hinge on the top of the A pillar

Hey Dan, I was curious. How do you open the back. We have a manta too but I don’t know what the previous people did to open the back.

I do have a very important question. Where did you find the windshield replacement? Also awesome job on the rebuild!

I will try to get more information if I still have it, it was a company around LA that makes aircraft windshields and they still had the mold.
Yes my acrylic windshield was $1,400 but less than half the weight and virtually unbreakable.

I have always loved both those Manta designs, the Mirage and the Montage, your car is exceptional before and after the rebuild, you need to get rid of the music on your video, I could barely understand what you were saying.

Le Juge et le pilote, in France. "The Judge n the pilot"
I think the "Hardcastle & McCormick" is too hard to pronouce for frenchs.
One of my favorite tv show car too.

I just saw your video and would like to ask what where your wheel sizes for your car while it was white. I would really like to build one similar to yours.

Thank you for watching, The wheels were the same when the car was red and white.
I bought these from JEGS Performance. They are AERO 50 Series Racing Wheels. My car was based on a 1970 VW Bug with 4 lugs, I had 4 lug to 5 on 5.5" adapters. AERO 15x8 front, 15x10 rear. The tires were Cooper Cobra 265/50-15 front, 295/50-15 rear.

It says KIT CAR. Look up a 1969 McLaren M6GT, that is what this kit car is modeled after.
