- George Wagner, IV is standing trial for the April 2016 murders of eight members of the Rhoden and Gilley families. Wagner IV faces 22 counts including eight counts of aggravated murder with death penalty specifications, aggravated burglary, conspiracy, tampering with evidence and forgery.
Wagner’s brother, Edward “Jake” Wagner, and his mother, Angela Wagner, have already pleaded guilty to taking part in the conspiracy to murder the eight Rhoden and Gilley family members over their desire to obtain full custody of the then two-year-old daughter Jake shared with victim Hanna May Rhoden. Angela and Jake Wagner have agreed to testify against their family members.
George “Billy” Wagner, the father of Jake and George, faces the same 22 counts.
On the morning of April 22, 2016, family members found Chris Rhoden, Sr., 40, and his cousin, Gary Rhoden, 38, dead in Chris’ mobile home on Union Hill Rd. Chris Sr.’s ex-wife, Dana Manley Rhoden, 37, and their children, Hanna May Rhoden, 19, and Chris Rhoden Jr., 16, were found shot in the head in their sleep in their mobile home down the road. Hanna May had given birth days earlier to a baby girl who was not harmed. Clarence "Frankie" Rhoden, 20 and his fiancee, Hannah "Hazel" Gilley, 20, were also found shot to death in their sleep. Their six-month-old son was in between them covered in blood but unharmed. Frankie’s four-year-old son was unharmed in the home as well.
Kenneth Rhoden, 44, was found shot once in the eye in his camper on Left Fork Rd. more than seven miles away.
Angela Wagner’s mother, Rita Newcomb, pleaded guilty in 2019 to a misdemeanor count of obstruction. She had been charged with forgery and obstruction of justice for lying about signing and notarizing custody documents related to Hanna May, Jake and George’s children. Newcomb has agreed to testify against her family members.
Billy Wagner’s mother, Fredericka Wagner, was initially charged with obstruction of justice and forgery for allegedly lying about purchasing a bullet-resistant vest for Billy. The charges were dropped after it was discovered a plate in the vest was manufactured after the homicides. Prosecutors have said they may refile the charges at a later date. Fredericka has been subpoenaed to testify.

The Wagners did it so they could get custody of the young daughter Jake had with his ex Hanna Rhoden, prosecutors said. Jake indeed won sole custody of the child, now 8, after the murders. The Wagners moved to Alaska. That all changed after authorities arrested them in November 2018, sparking a legal battle lasting almost four years.

So much for transparency. I can understand undercover det yet they did the deed so why hide it. Like DOOMSDAY COUPLE dont want trial televised.💜🙏✌️

If they opt out of the video part they should be allowing at least audio. Are any reporters even allowed in so they can at least update people on what the testimony was?

Yes, the reporters are allowed in. Pike County is so small, it's possible that they don't want to be seen.

Can’t you guys at least tell us what’s going on? This trial is important. The whole country should be watching. Cold blooded, calculated, horrific . That is what I think when I see them on camera. Three fathers, three mothers, two teenagers, aunts, uncles, daughters, sons, grandmother, grandfathers. That is who was slaughtered! Someone needs to do a documentary on the accused. I am outraged. Plea deals for these monsters? Four crime scenes. Three babies. Victims were sleeping and nursing😡 DEATH PENALTY!

I’ve followed this case since it happened and this trial is the worst. Allowing public officials and Angela and Jake to opt out of audio and video is a disgrace.
There is absolutely NO reason that they should be offered the option…especially since guilt has already been established!

@@fameofflames no I don’t think they have testified yet but I’ve heard they have the option to not appear on video and audio. Idk if that is 100% true.
I really appreciate the work of the Law&Crime network! I enjoy listening to the trials as I do things around the house. It would be really helpful if there were some post-production work done on the videos (eg. a huge percentage of the video is simply blank). While yes I can just "skip" there are no position marks and on some devices (eg. fire TV apple TV) it's a struggle finding the right moment to skip ahead to. This comment is not limited to this trial at all. The editing should only take an hour or so per video to eliminate the huge amount of dead space in almost every video you guys publish, and it goes super far toward delivering quality content that delivers professionalism rather than just taking a video from the states and uploading them straight to the internet.
There are chrome extensions that allow users to “mark” videos with blank space so that it can be skipped. I don’t remember the name of the extension. I hope this helps.

I've watched a lot of trials in a lot of different states. And I know all judges are different...but this has got to be close to the only trial I've seen that ends everyday by 3 . I think once they went to 5? Normally when there's a trial that's going to take a long time judge's try to at least go to 5 every day and I've seen some judges say "some days we'll be going to 6. At this rate I don't see how 6 weeks would be sufficient.
Deering is out of his league. He’s a decent guy, but he’s a small time family judge. He was not prepared for a case of this magnitude and I think the defense has capitalized on that a bit already
It is a lot for a jury to review. The judge does not want the jury to feel overwhelmed. In addition, there may be juror needs that have to met such as children, family and self owner businesses. I worked for the federal judiciary for 20 years and many factors have to be considered in a high profile trial. Including getting the jury out before people get off of work. Judges do not leave when the jury is dismissed. Also, two of the witnesses are incarcerated ( Angela and Jake Wagner).
I can't believe I have waited so long to not be able to at least listen to testimony. Public means Public. What is this judge thinking? I have never heard of opting out of audio when media was already allowed in to record.

@@mimimimi6298 I live here in Ohio that’s not the law in Ohio. As of right now about 12 media outlets are suing this particular judge for this ruling because it is against the law we should at least be able to hear the audio

Her power was cut off when they stopped her from communicating with her family. You know they caught her on the fon pleading with her mother to lie about the custody papers😡
They WILL STILL stand before The Lord God Almighty HIMSELF, just as everyone WILL, and give an account of their lives to HIM. The Lord is NOT afraid of ANY MERE human being, HE is NOT impressed with anyone, HE is NOT in awe of ANY of us. There’s a high price to pay, for low living.
I am definitely not trying to take away from the seriousness of this case and I truly hope the victims receive justice, but why on earth are so many of the public service professionals being so secretive during their testimony? They act like they're going to be reprimanded for doing their jobs or something. Smh.
Maybe they are scared of the remaining Wagners not in jail. They did screw up for yrs assuming it was the weed thing too. When it's over we can pay thousands for the trial transcripts.
I have a theory people more organized and professional were at least “consultants” on this job. It takes a special and talented person to be able to walk up to numerous properties, in the dark, knowing guns are in the home, don’t make any mistake and virtually every bullet hit it’s mark. No DNA is found at any of the crime scenes and few ballistic clues.
Those scenes were clean, as we heard, and the job carried off without (so far) any major hiccup. Maybe W’s were involved, but I don’t think they alone devised the planned and they sure didn’t alone carry out the actions
That said, I think those that did are not indicted and never will be. Another contributing factor into my theory are the witnesses that made sure they were on camera and made sure everyone heard what they said, with out saying ‘too much’
Keep in mind, 5 different people were suppose to be staying in one of those locations that night but they all cancelled. One literally at the last minute, turning around to go back home.
@@aj-gl3ri I somewhat agree with that. But they were on a mission. Crime scenes are clean because they just went in and shot and left. No robberies...no fight. Just walked in shot and left. The planning though...months of surveillance...they almost got away with it.
@@aj-gl3ri can understand why you think that however apparently, as we haven’t heard yet, Wagner’s planned this over 4 mths including surveillance of the victims habits, homes etc bought new vehicle just for the 1 night, even footwear….burner phones etc it was extremely well planned & executed but they still caught them!
@@juliecolvin7604 It could be, but It’s very hard not to loose your composure during, especially if it’s your first, and also difficult to represses your terror (once again, especially if it’s your first) to be skilled or careful enough to hit every target. These crime scenes aren’t like many others. I think it means experienced help was there and involved, or they are unnaturally talented or experienced in that kind of work. My first question early on was if one or more of the males had been in active combat

I have no doubt George participated in the crimes. But the prosecution is really failing to PROVE he was there. They are laying out every detail, yet have not made a single connection to him, or that here was there or that he was involved. They have literally not even mentioned the defendants name, I get they need to lay a foundation, and explain the case, but they should be tying him into it as they go. Along with the state's absolutely horrible opening, very concerning.
I’m sure when his mom and Jake get on the stand it will seal his fate.
We cant hear alot of testimony but he couldve called LE. Wait till u hear how he got custody of his child. Mom knew to surrender to stay alive.
I agree. I said so far nothing. His attorney’s opening statement was great. If I didn’t know the case I would be scratching my head.
How you have no doubt that George participated in the crimes? What evidence so far? Nothing yet so far!
With so much of the testimony and evidence hidden, you can't know what case they are laying out.

This is a horrific crime, troubling details on both sides. But I've always thought that the DA has to have hard evidence in order to get guilty verdict. Putting these guns into each suspects hands . The original firearms weren't found , just cartridge's bullet casting. Nothing shows me that without the testimony of Jake and Angela they can't place George at the crime scene... Jake and Angela took a plea deal from the state to escape the death penalty . So now George is facing maybe death , due to Jake's and Angela's testimony.. because Jake took the responsibility for killing fives victims , Billy could have murdered Chris and Gary. Without physical evidence, I couldn't find him guilty even if I thought he was guilty , because of no physical evidence that I could say beyond a reasonable doubt, George did anything..
He may have not killed anyone that maybe arguable..but he was in on the conspiracy. It will not be until the detectives interrogations and witnesses take the stand. These are the crime scene investigators coroner and forensics. It will all add up in the end. At least 1 victim was only shot 1 time. That says a lot to me. It wasn't jake..he shot his victims multiple times.
Did the dad kill anyone? What I'm saying they can't show beyond a reasonable doubt that George pulled any trigger. The defense lawyer asked if you could tell which shooter used which weapon , the witness say no he could not .
@@lindaluu.9796 Jake said that Billy killed Kenneth and Chris Rhoden Sr and Gary Rhoden I believe. I have to go back and listen to the full ballistics evidence and autopsy to be sure
There is also such a thing as conspiracy to murder, he planned it, helped build the silencers, there were two different shoe prints that matched the ones that Angela said she bought the boys to wear on the night of the murder. They were wearing gloves so DNA will be minimal. DNA isn't the be all and end all. There is a lot of evidence proving they were all involved. George was also there on the night and didn't stop any of it or alert the authorities. He also planned to take revenge on law enforcement and participated in concealing evidence.

Forensic specialists reminds me of Calleigh on MIAMI CSI. So her character portrays real LE! BOTH SPK THE SAME LANG with enthusiam & respect for guns & bullets. Thought she was all Hollywood make believe! Wagner family thought of almost everything but him!
If they idolized the boondock saints... maybe investigators should watch and study the movie
In the movie they sprayed a solution over the crime scenes making DNA unretreivable George idolized it more than Jake they watched it before they set out that night!George has just as much in this as the rest of em! Even if he didn't shoot one time he was in the planning and in the state Ohio that equates a is guilty just for being there in the orchestration of the crime. Js

@@spicyirwin5835 They dyed their hair right after they committed the murders, I think because they saw themselves as "God's Avengers" - they are complete nutters. There were photos in the paper I think right afterwards with different hair.
i’d say at this point everyone just stop watching all trials, why allow these horse and pony shows to earn money off of the victims and make a mockery off the system? people like dan abrahams, whoever owns court rv etc it’s ridiculous

I think Jake admitted to killing 5 if the 8, so that leaves his dad and brother. Angela pled guilty to everything except for the actual murders.
