This is such an old video but still a life saver. Thank God Almighty for giving me the strength. I watched this video before journeying to my mechanic. You know, lack of tools. He was so busy and I didn't book an appointment so I used his tools, coupled with knowledge from this video. I know I know, I still drive this old 2000 machine but the E46, in my view, remains one of the best cars ever made, and as much as I can afford right now. I changed the radiator by myself. A couple of things broke, like the coolant temperature sensor below the water tank. I had to go buy the entire plastic that you showed. I am grateful to God, and then to you. God bless ❤
Having just completed this exact job, i have a few concerns about how you went about it in your video, there was not nearly enough swearing, blood, kicking plastic things, angry trips to the parts store, kicking metal things, more swearing and limping, glycol in the eyes, and where was your missus telling you what you are doing is wrong?? You sir are no mechanic! 😅
My 325i E46 cracked in the same exact spot, and it will happen again if you drive without your coolant completely topped up. Also, while you are replacing your radiator, you are best to replace that expansion tank, and radiator hoses, these parts get very brittle after you drive with low coolant from getting too hot.. the O-rings on the E-tank and hoses also do not compress like the same as if they were new.. replace em while you're there for long term assurance. Nice video!
Thanks for the video. I will be replacing my radiator tomorrow. I basically know how to do everything thing else. Just needed to know how to remove radiator. Thanks for great video.
I just did this on my X5, my 330CI Coupe and my 740i. Im a BMW tech and we see these come in every week... it always cracks in the same spot. One owner tried to glue it with bathroom silicone...LOL. So just a quick mechanics tip, purchase the radiator with the reinforced plastic sides and neck. If not, you might be doing this again real soon. Thanks for the video, thumbs up! I wish you lived in Dallas bro I would buy you 6 pack
Bmw tech you say, what size are the tork screws that hold on the radiator and the plastic piece that screws onto the radiator and connects to the expansion tank, ive got all the parts except a tool that will work to remove those tork screws
Nice video. I have a 2000 328i and my radiator fan exploded taking the radiator out of service. Going to replace with electric fan and new radiator and your video step by step is perfect. Thanks
Pro tip; instead of prying on the plastic coolant “quick connects” with a steel prybar, give it just a little grunt with a prybar (tiny grunt!) and if it doesn’t want to move get that hose a shakin’! (Wobble the hose around any direction you can) and then try prying it a little. If it’s moves a little and gets stuck again wobble the hose some more, etc. if you don’t do this you’re guaranteed to break another coolant part.
Hi the piece on the expansion bracket that you pointed out at 13:27 Can you buy the new plastic piece? I know you can get the o ring, but I'm not able to find out what that other small plastic piece is called? Thanks
Tork bit sizes??? I had everything apart down to those tork screws for the radiator and the plastic piece that the expansion tank connects too just to be disappointed and have to put it all back together till I get the right tork bit
What about the two hoses below, that look like they have metal fittings on them. Are they attached to the radiator? They are located below the radiator and just to the left of the expansion tank.
Great video but it would be even better if u put a List of tools used like ?mm ?tork size and how you really got those hoses to come off I know it wasn’t easy I had to cut mine shit doesn’t wiggle off that easy
How long did it take you to take the transmission cooler out with the pry bar? Im having trouble with taking mine out and im afraid i might damage the plastic.
I used a product call K-seal and it worked very good for a month but the crack eventually opened back up. Any professional technician will tell you you can't repair the plastic. You can try something but you'll be kicking yourself when your car gives up on you at the worst time.
Drive Miami I have a question my buddie has a 2000 BMW 323ci with 140k miles on it.the radiator seems to have a leak or something because you have to keep adding water.motor trans and ac are fine.is it worth buying?i know he can replace the rad for me.but could this be a sign of a much more expensive repair?any response will be valued greatly
You do. When you filled you 50/50 mix you have to bleed the system by turning the car on and when it warms up a bit start opening and closing the bleeder screw (be careful when it's hot) and let the air out. There is two other ways to do it as well. With a vacuum tool or a "gravity" funnel
Just wanted to add this in case others are reading. Bleeding the cooling system is necessary, and if skipped or done wrong, can cause very expensive damage to the engine. Thermostat needs to be open (engine warm), and climate control heat on full speed at highest temp setting with ENGINE OFF (per BMW spec. This differs from a typical bleeding procedure.) Make sure the car is level or the front slightly elevated. Fill expansion tank to very top, loosen bleed screw, wait for bubbles to stop, while adding coolant to keep level at top of expansion tank. After no bubbles come from bleed screw, close it, then remove excess coolant from expansion tank with turkey baster or such (this step is important), leave it a little past cold max fill because the coolant is warm. Check coolant level (when cold) the next few days, top off if necessary. One last tip, don't open the cap if the car is warm because hot coolant will spray everywhere. Warm car up with cap off if you need to warm it up.
Its easy as long as you have the tools, some friend you are, your just as bad as the crooks who wanna charge $130 just to install a coolant expansion tank 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Good tutorial mate, but WTF is that annoying noise you guys called music, sorry very annoying, no need for that noise, hehe just saying, job well done by the way...
Your videos or informative. But I really think that you should pay more attention to detail. Speeding through a video is not teaching someone how to do anything It's' called, Drive.. by teaching..
You really need to work on posting repair videos. Your shift sucks. How can you expect anyone to learn anything when you are skipping steps You did not show the transmission cooling link leaking. After you Completed the job. If you want to be More helpful to people be . More precise with your details. And stop posting drive by teaching videos. They're not helpful. Replacing your clutch radiator fan for an electric can cause transmission overheating
Thank you very much , grate help, did the job much easy..

I like this lad absolutely 0 bullshit 😂
What if the hole for the drain plug is closed for a manual transmission e46 is that good
Tork bit sizes??? I had everything apart down to those tork screws for the radiator and the plastic piece that the expansion tank connects too just to be disappointed and have to put it all back together till I get the right tork bit
Hey your video was great bro!! Explained steps to take and also showed how to DIY. Thanks keep up with the good work! 😎👍

Thanks a lot for the video really helped me out alot my man! peace
badash786 no prob. that's why I make the videos. Glad it helped

How long did it take you to take the transmission cooler out with the pry bar? Im having trouble with taking mine out and im afraid i might damage the plastic.
Raimond it took me about 2 minutes to take it out. when you use the pry bar you have to be careful of the plastic. Use light force.
HI, is there anyway to repair that crack with epoxy glue, jb weld, etc, maybe from inside, to avoid extracost and all that labor? thanks
I used a product call K-seal and it worked very good for a month but the crack eventually opened back up. Any professional technician will tell you you can't repair the plastic. You can try something but you'll be kicking yourself when your car gives up on you at the worst time.
perfect video. show

Dont you have to vacuum the system from air after installing the new radiator?
Good vid bro

7:35 Just to not let people get confused. That is connected to a Thermostat. Not the water pump.
Dude are you from Cincinnati I swear I've met you beforw
Should of converted the manual fan with an electric one... (More performance specially if it's stuffed)
Hi man! Your car is manual or automatic transmisson?
