Now that is a simple and elegant solution to a building that [ as usual made with different building scale and roof angle pitch] [ one of Bethesda's little jokes ] than you can use in the contraptions DLC as none of it matches but it does useing this method make use of the top floor very quickly without having to glitch in new roof and floor.
Great work! Loved how you demonstrated the method, and of course how the finished product looked. The only thing I can think that might be a factor is that the beds still aren't "covered" as far as settler happiness requirements go. Believe it or not, they have to have build items from the "roof" category, OR, in the wood building section, there are floor pieces that are two tiles thick called (I believe) upper floors. Apparently, the game mechanic still considers those as roofs for the purpose of covering beds. It's as frustrating as it is weird in my opinion, but it does seem to be true.
Thank you! Thanks also for letting me know about the happiness requirements. I haven't noticed a happiness drop in settlements where I use the wood floors as roofs - but the happiness calculation is complicated and I might be compensating for it elsewhere without realizing it. I am definitely going to look into this further.
I went back into the game and checked to see if the beds are uncovered using the wood floors. If you are on PC, you can open the console, click on the bed to select and then type getav 334. If a bed is uncovered, it will return a 0 and if it is covered, it will return a 1. Fortunately, all of the beds returned a 1 (yay!) so settlers will have to find different reason to be unhappy (and I'm sure they will!).

I enjoyed your video. I don't know when the game technically ends but I have found my son and have a decision to make. I didn't join the BOS and just stayed with the minutemen, and building up the settlements with just what the game has to offer with no DLC'S. I have a question what would be better at this point for me download the DLC'S and continue the game? I will most likely do another playthrough once I have finished. I have completed all the quests I came across as well. What do you think?
Thank you! I won't spoil anything for you but the good news is that you can keep playing this game long after it technically ends (even if you never install the DLCs)! It is also fun to re-play the game and join a different faction on the next playthrough. None of the DLCs interfere or change the main storyline or will interfere with the decision that you need to make - so you really could install them anytime. All of them add building items to your workshop but you generally have to complete the questline to unlock them. Three of the DSCs also unlock new settlements (6 in total). You also can play the DLCs and then come back to the main storyline if you want (my no mods character has played all of the DLCs but hasn't found her son yet). If you already own the DLCs , Wasteland Workshop and Contraptions Workshop add a lot of workshop items to your building menus. So if you like to build, these two could be added right away to allow you to use the items in your builds (no unlocks needed). Far Harbor is my favorite and has a great questline. If you take Nick Valentine as a companion for this questline, there are unique story related dialog options. The Far Harbor storyline is quite long and complex (and you have lots of choices to make too). It also unlocks 4 really nice settlements and new workshop items like the barn tile set (that I like to use 😊). I think that Far Harbor triggers fairly early in the game so you could play that anytime. Automatron triggers at level 15. It unlocks the ability to make robots in the game. It also unlocks 1 new settlement. You also get a new companion robot. The questline story is pretty interesting too. Vault-Tech Workshop has a quest associated with it and provides workshop items that can be used to build a vault as well as other items that can be used to decorate in settlements. It also gives you items that you can assign to settlers that can increase your settlement's happiness (depending on the choices that you make doing the questline). I don't remember this questline being difficult - it just forces you to make decisions that cannot be changed later. This DLC will trigger at level 20. Nuka World is a totally different concept from the rest of the game and allows you (if you choose) to partner with the Raiders. Nuka World triggers at level 30 and it can be rather difficult (some suggest waiting until you are level 50 to start it). It unlocks 1 settlement and a lot of theme park and arcade building items. There are also a big lot of decisions that you need to make in this DLC.
@@cryingcube2 Thankyou for your informative reply. I downloaded the DLC'S today while I was outside doing chores. There seemed to quite a bit of negative response on steam not sure if that was because of the price at one time or something but I got them all for 15.00 dollars or a little less. Took a peek at what's in the game now and can't wait to play a few hours in the morning. 😁
Great! I'm glad that you got them installed. You should have a lot of new building items already unlocked and will get more when you finish different parts of the DLC. Enjoy the DLCs and your new workshop items!!
You are right - the house doesn't have a lot of beds! For this settlement, I generally use the space to the right of the house (facing the house) and over the water to build more houses. The tour in the video was just a quick overview of the decorated house and only has 4 settlers.
Thanks for the question - which is a very good question (not silly at all) - however I really don't know the answer! I cleared Taffington a long time ago and completely forgot about the Brahmin. I will have to go back into my old file saves to see if I can figure this out!
Honestly i just like to watch these to see the lengths people will go to to build in bethasda's godawful building system without the Place Anywhere mod 😂
That one comes from the Vault-Tec DLC. I think it unlocks after you finish the Vault 88 questline. (Probably an oversight on my part - but I didn't list the tour DLCs that I used in build portion of the video because I decided to add the tour later).

🖤
Thank you!
Well done, but 4 sleeping spots? Where do you house the rest of your settlers?
You are right - the house doesn't have a lot of beds! For this settlement, I generally use the space to the right of the house (facing the house) and over the water to build more houses. The tour in the video was just a quick overview of the decorated house and only has 4 settlers.
@@cryingcube2 Makes sense, I was just curious,
@ No problem - thanks for the question😊
May seem a silly question but how did you remove the Brahmin corpse?
Thanks for the question - which is a very good question (not silly at all) - however I really don't know the answer! I cleared Taffington a long time ago and completely forgot about the Brahmin. I will have to go back into my old file saves to see if I can figure this out!
Honestly i just like to watch these to see the lengths people will go to to build in bethasda's godawful building system without the Place Anywhere mod 😂
So true! I was hoping they would improve the building with the NG update but unfortunately that didn't happen!
How do u get that military barricade watch tower
That one comes from the Vault-Tec DLC. I think it unlocks after you finish the Vault 88 questline. (Probably an oversight on my part - but I didn't list the tour DLCs that I used in build portion of the video because I decided to add the tour later).
@@cryingcube2 thank u , I’ve been playing it over again and forgot how to get most of the stuff
You're welcome. I understand - I couldn't remember which DLC it came from either, I had to look it up!
I rather like the uncumbersome design.
Thanks!
For some reason your walls seems to be higher 😳
@@MrDmd74 Are you using the warehouse walls? The metal wall from the shack section is shorter.
@@cryingcube2 That explains a lot 😊Thank you! I’m on the vanilla version without any DLC’s.
@@MrDmd74 You’re welcome! I tried to build this with the shorter shack walls but I ran into collision issues that I didn’t have with the taller walls.
Great video 🤩. I never could do that in fallout 4. Thanks so much. 🤩🙏👍🦮🙋🏼♂️🇳🇱🇩🇪👌
Thank you and you're welcome! Hope this gives you ideas to build at Taffington ☺️!
@@cryingcube2 this was a big help, all those open roofs. Terrible. But I am going to try this soon on Taffington boat 🛥️ house. Thanks 🙏
You're welcome! Glad that you will give this a try in Taffington!
@@cryingcube2 Of course I'm going to try that. Because you explained it so well. And roofs are always a problem in Fallout 4.@meandmybergerpircard
Thank you - I appreciate your feedback and agree with you on the roofs in the game!
thank you sooooo much. such a easy to follow and quick tutorial 🫶🏾
You’re welcome! I hope that you will give it a try!
