You're the man Mattias! Great to see Konnakol and Metal meeting with such beautiful results. Also, thanks for including tab notation for us cavemen who can't read proper sheet music :D.
The break in to explain you were full of shit... priceless. Thanks for the laugh, the correction and always being a video worth learning and listening from.
It's been a long while since I last listened to the Art Metal album. I must say the solo on Manirambha (the first one) is probably my favourite of yours. For a long, long time it was my ring tone. I had to change it because I could never pick up. It was kinda stupid missing so many calls with a grin on my face. Turiturutu, turiturututuru, turiturutu... (Beat my konnakol, lol)
I remember going to Freak Guitar Camp about 12 years ago (approx) and playing this tune. I brought along a six string bass. It was a great experience next to the lake outside Gothenburg that I’ll never forget. Thanks Mattias and I hope you’re well!
one of my favorite cds ....it sounds amzing considering the way you said it was recorded.. I have several sound systems i listen though and for being "under produced" it outrocks most heavily produced stuff out there. Art Metal is one of my favorites by far
@@vvmcmurdo Hah, I missed that little clip the first time through the video, awesome :) Btw I just skimmed some of your rhythm tutorials from the freak audio camp on your RUclips channel. Looks really good, I'll be giving that a watch later this weekend when I'm not late and I'm tired and my brain and sense of rhythm are not so mushy.
MATTIAS! So glad you revisit this gem of an album! It’s funny to hear it was barely mixed, with the bass up front and the guitars somewhat discrete... when I thought it was an aesthetic choice... well that’s kinda of what it is... but... you know what I mean. Thanks for the videos, love from Quebec, Canada
Mattias IA... : Wowwowwowwow...!!! This Rhythm is simply GREAT and solo is so GOOD & EXOTIC...! Absolutely BRILLIANT...! Thanks so much Master Mattias IA Eklundh for your Music...! Hälsning från Galiza...!
Min kompis var stort fan av Hellborg på 80talet jag tyckte han spelade konstig musik, JAG lyssnade på riktig musik.. Silver Mountain🤘så det kan bli😱😉 Keep on knepa👌🤘
It's always a highlight of the week if you've posted a new video , I get more inspired with each one to explore unusual time signatures! ( love your dog😀)
Always been a fan of Mathias since early 90s, adding mr Hellborg to the mix just does it for me. Hellborg and Shawn Lane... man i didnt think it could be beat
Interesting to hear the full gamut of what Anders and Jens have done! I heard them first on Yngwie Malmsteen's Déjà Vu album, then their Heavy Machinery with Allan Holdsworth, now this! Monster musicians all.
Casually brushes hair out of eye while playing insane complex prog riff :O) But I do like the fact that for a large part of this it looked like your t-shirt was eating the horn on your guitar :O) Thanks for the shred, and the "try this at home", I think we all appreciate it even more right now. A little disappointed to find out that Google translates "hejsan svejsan" as "howdy". Seriously Google? HOWDY? Please tell me it's a little more than that :O)
You need to sign up for the amazing Freak Guitar Camp! Trust me, the "Freak Audio Lab" intro would be the least favorite of your accomplishments! :-) :-)
@@vvmcmurdo Bizarre question, but is the Camp open to non-guitarists? (I've seen your videos from when you were there, Chittaranjan, but did you "participate" while you were there?) I'm a drummer/percussionist just getting into konnakol and would love to learn some of Mattias' theories from the inside out.
there's one thing I regret, not seeing Mattias live in Nepal, that was my only chance but missed it , hope things get well soon...and maybe Freak Kitchen could visit Nepal again!
Dude your guitar is awesome! And your playing aswell! Its funny how you take your time to explain the konakol rythm, ive known the conccept for years, and still dont gett all youre saying hahaha
intro, riff 1 and 2 feels like Mattias har spelat mycket Doom 2 på sin 486, eller något sånt. Ser framför mig låten i något sånt där back in the days fult midi/adlib/soundblaster format i Doom 2, av någon okänd anledning. Rock on
Hej, i love your videos, i watch them every friday like a creepy fan girl or something like that. I tried to understand the rythmic structures and i think i get it for the most part but i have a problem with the riff 3a. You said is : "Ta ki te ta / ta ki te ta / ta ki te ta / and ta ki te / ta ki te / ta ki te" for the beginning. And when i read the sheet at 10:24, i can't understand the "ta ki te / ta ki te / ta ki te"... I don't know if i explain well, english is hard for me, sorry. I really want to understand and try to play it on bass. Your rythmic patterns fascinate me. Thank you for that.
2:55 can i have a full song of this please mattias , no joke , this is very therapeutic and i am very weird but i like it , i just want like a 10 minutes video of this rhythmic language lol
Yes you can. Search "konnakol" and you'll find either instructional or performance videos on this. You'll find very elaborate pieces, sometimes two people in unisson, which shows they're not improvising.
Did you do the involuntary squeak in the solo again close to 7:52 ? :-) The involuntary squeak in the original used to be one of my favorite parts! :-) Love it!
I am pretty sure he will come back one day and say: guys i just made up these thaki dha thatiki stuff and completely random, i just happened to be able to repeat it!
Sees a few seconds...presses pause. Purchases Art Metal. Hears...mind blown, soul at peace. Buy it. Do it now.

I had listened to that album before and it is easily one of the most awesome collaborations ever.
The title track on Art Metal is one of my favorites, it builds in intensity and becomes a real freight train towards the end!
That sounds amazing, definitely going to be listening to the full album carefully this weekend!. Thanks for the inspiration and good vibes!
I love that the background music is a tampura drone. You are so awesome, Mattias!
Woohoo! Love seeing a new video of yours pop up, Mattias. Hope all is well! :)
Thank you very much.! .This is Art Metal.! Only who know the art will appreciate and enjoy this kind of music...
Thank you for all the videos so far
Thank you Mattias! I love this album, proudly own a copy (along with five other Hellborg CDs).
