You never cease to blow my mind with something outlandish sounding, with a basic explanation that changes my perspective of the timing. Such great content from this channel, You Rule Mattias!
I'd like to propose song titles for these wonderful examples you come up with ( or even future example titles for you ). I'd like to offer one title for the future: " What's a 16th note like you doing in a bar like this? "
Mind blowing! Love your kannikol videos. I’ve been playing music for about 35 years and this rhythmic conceptualization is really challenging the way I understand music. It’s both fascinating and unsettling. Do you notate any of this??
I was completely and utterly lost throughout this one (both in the music, and rhythmically!). I'll come back to it once I've woken up more - and still probably be lost (!)
If someone added nested tuplets to it, a Indo/Nordic/Viking Demon would be evoked, carrying a Berklee's Degree and the whole Spastik Ink's discography on shuffle. On a serious note, you are the man and you've the ability to teach very complex biz with fun and passion. Greetings from Italy! Ps: nice Quake mug ;)
It's damn weird to see how I can understand everything when you're talking. Then you start playing and I become completely stupid and lose myself in the first bar.
It is indeed a love game! I am currently dusting Doom Eternal for all the secrets, but then... Dusk! (Had the most intense TDM:s in Quake Champions today. Absolutely wonderful and cleansing. Yihaaa).
Actually there IS a life-saving code used here: chord freeze. One doesn't have to care about changes (as is also the case in Indian classical music, of course!)... On the extreme opposite take Giant Steps - 4/4 but with non-functional chord changes on each beat; everyone knows it's a "nightmare mode" piece. Somewhere in between, I'd say, Distant Hills: also not so obvious, non-functional harmony, but changes on every downbeat of the steady 11/8, so the harmonic rhythm still feels pretty naturally, you don't have to REALLY count, just play. If one tried to push too hard in both directions at once, both rhythm and harmony, I guess that would be trouble...
Great job I loved . I have a question I'm also a drummer how did you come up with the drum parts and blended it so good. Second question how did you choose a mode or scale to develop a melody structure and then develop you great solo . I'm also an piano player and keyboard player . Thanks for your time.
Oh, I wing stuff as I go along. Of course I am aware of what I am doing but I can never really tell the outcome until it is mixed and mastered... and that's the beauty of it!

Personally I do not actively count up to 57 when playing. My suggestion is to keep a steady pulse and keep track of how the rhythm changes against the pulse by using konnakol. The rest is just doing it a bunch and building confidence.
