I compare Topaz Photo AI with DxO PureRAW 2 to simply know which one to use for noise reduction in my landscape images. So far I have chosen PureRAW 2 - without hesitation - for Topaz Lab is still not - after a decade where I have used their software - able to de-noise around critical edges, e.g. branches and foliage against a bright sky, without leaving artifacts - halos, or double edges. Prior to DxO we used all kinds of tricks to remove the halos. And it's not because I haven't delivered my share of examples, good feed back facilitating Topaz' pleasant attempt to solve the problem - they just haven't managed. After DxO released their AI de-noising software, Topaz Labs has become a clear number two on the de-noising market.

I heartily agree DXO is the one to beat for RAW. I did not really notice the halos. Maybe I didn't zoom on it enough 🙂 The colors are mainly the reason and I found the dngs their produce retain the dynamic range of the RAW file better than Topaz.

THANKS! I think I like the A12 -but- could Sharpening within it add the lost detail back succesfully, or?? THANKS again!

hello, I don't think sharpening will add lost detail after noise reduction but will certainly make the image look sharper

The two beta effects with lighting make everything to warm and add tint. The denoise is inferior to Lr and pure raw 3. The update just made denoising more aggressive I agree. When I crop an image it sometimes gives a weird effect similar to that of fisheye.

Yes agree on points. Lighting effects are not great as is but I'm assuming Topaz will improve it in subsequent updates. PureRAW is the best for sure. Topaz might have made it more agressive due to increasing competition. I would use Topaz more for jpeg/dng noise reduction. I think Topa applies a distortion correction perhaps its related to that!

I have V1. However I still prefer the individual Denoise and sharpen apps as they give me a lot more control and subtly over it's application. I hardly touch sharpen. I prefer to up my ISO and shutter knowing that Denoise AI can take care of it.

Thanks for the feedback. A few people have mentioned that they prefer the performance of denoise rather than the photo ai app. Do you use it for RAW or JPEG?

Thanks, for uploading. yes the new version just looks softer and more flat/smeary...

You can adjust the strength but not really convinced that it is close to deepprime at all!

@@takebetterphotos8132 I agree, however, one needs to be careful about artifacts with DxO in some images but there is less control. DxO does retain more detail though..

Yes, the colors of deepprime xd are also better in my view.

Its still very poor compared to Pureraw3/PL6 elite, halos/fringing/plastic looking pictures - especially at the price they want IMHO

'Yes for RAW PureRAW 3 is the one to beat. I would get it for its JPEG and other filetypes denoising though
