Power of I - Nanobattery at UC Irvine

- What if a battery lasted forever? Could it power a car? Could it power your home? Could it power change?
At the University of California, Irvine, we’re counting on it. UCI chemistry student Mya Le Thai has developed a technology that could potentially help a battery hold unlimited charges. While experimenting in the lab, she made a remarkable discovery that will have a huge impact on future energy consumption.
By coating the gold nanowires in a thin gel, the filaments of the capacitor retain their properties under hundreds of thousands of charges. Call it a hunch. Call it a happy accident. We call it the Power of I.
When you’re given the opportunity to explore and follow your convictions, when dedication and inspiration cross paths, amazing things will happen.

bro this is fake unlimited energy is not possible it violates law of energy conservation
@@mayankbhaskar1654 who said about unlimited energy. Hear him properly what he said. He said the battery can retain its property after 100000 charges which means it can last for ever. It doesn't mean about unlimited energy. It violates the TD law. Its not a PPM machine.
Still waiting for this bright future lmao
This is embarrassingly bad science. You should be ashamed of yourselves. But Hey, it's California where reality is only a suggestion.
Ok... So what energy density do they have? Did she sold her patent? Was she killed by a big corporation? What happened?
the government got her by giving her tmj

It does not say unlimited energy. It says that is has unlimited cycle lifetime. So lets say you would buy a Tesla with such battery the battery will last forever and does not need to be replaced. Offcoarse u need to charge it like any other battery. You just misunderstood. Anyway i guess its not coming to the market as its a battery build on GOLD nanowires. First thing Gold is rare. Next thing making nanowires from any material is hard for mass production. So its all just a nice fundamental invention but we wont see any battery like this in the market. But the derived knowledge can be used for creating new ideas on the cheaper batteries.

_Gold nanowires!_ You want to store energy using gold nanowires. I think there's just a tiny reason why this will never be viable in practice.
You know why we went to lithium batteries? Because most lithium atoms weigh about 7 AMU, whereas naturally-occurring gold atoms weigh 197 AMU. _28 Times more._
And second, _it's made of GOLD. You can't seriously be planning on using gold metal as a significant component of your battery._
We used gold for processors, why not batteries !?
@@Fennec1919 Because it would be prohibitively expensive and impractical.
@@electric7487 we used gold in micro scale for processors it will be cheaper in nano scale
@@Fennec1919 Lower your expectations, buddy. Lower your expectations.
@electric7487 I beg to differ if the battery lasts 400 years, all you will do is transfer it to the next place, home ship, or car!
Any updates on this yet? I been looking into this but haven't found new info in over 6 months. This is the future.. would love o know more.

It's not a thing. This University's PR team clearly has no integrity.
@@mayankbhaskar1654 They're not saying unlimited energy, they're saying unlimited charges. 🤦🏾♂️
Well our government may of nkk nkk her-
Nothing lasts forever... except for the batteries. 🤣😁🤣
There are also crystals that can trap photons and photons also do not interact so theoretically you could store an infinite amount of energy inside 1 crystal
So, first, how long will it exactly last? 100 thousands of charges, charges of what? How long do these charges last? I have much more questions, but I won’t bother writing them down cuz’ they won’t get answered
If you don't bother to write them, then shut the hell up.

yes, my ass peer reviewed it.
Obviously, it hasn't.

@@mayankbhaskar1654 False... They don't say it is unlimited energy. They claim that the battery has an unlimited cycle lifetime. So, the battery under some operating conditions must survive the electronic device without needing replacement.

I really doubt this, please prove me wrong.
Hold unlimited charges? Like in, being able to be loaded and unloaded anytime, or really just holding a big charge, so it can run a system forever?
It can be recharged forever without losing much power like the batteries you use in your phone or laptop for example. An average laptop battery can take 300-500 charge cycles and the UCI nanobattery endured about 200.000 charges. It's not like it can be charged once and then you have unlimited power. :)
Unbeliefable nevertheless. :-) Imagine those batteries in electric cars, used as energystorage for buildings in combination with renewable energy or the long term use of material because you dont´t have to replace those systems every couple of years. I really hope this discovery has the potential to become part of a more sustainable future.
Yes sure it's still impressive. And maybe, if gold wasn't that expensive or so overused for senseless jewellery it could be used for these batteries :D

What is pathetic... is you making ignorant, malicious, judgmental claims about Mya and the college.
Just a little fact-checking of your malicious comment on the internet proves how ill-intentioned and obtuse you are.
Spreading conspiracy theories, pseudo-science, malicious gossip fosters misinformation, distrust, division, diversion from real-world challenges, dissemination of your cognitive biases, ignorance, insecurities, fears, and paranoias.
I'm Latino as well, and we don't need malicious trolls slandering people and institutions for fun, ignorance, or ego issues. If you don't have anything constructive to contribute, you can go back to the craphole you came from.
Well thank the Maker it isn’t by someone from the philippines.
Hope i am wrong but somo grupos are not going to let this project to see the light....Does not need to be be a scientific to know why. GOD save this student 🙏

Seems like uci is just trying to get noticed lol

You'll still have to charge your phone as if you had charge it like your battery is brand new just it wouldn't degrade so quick like it used to with old type of batteries...

Stanley Meyer's water fuel cell invention was termed fraudulent after two investors to whom he had sold dealerships offering the right to do business in Water Fuel Cell technology sued him in 1996.
Meyer's patents have expired. His inventions are now in the public domain, available for all to use without restriction or royalty payment. No engine or vehicle manufacturer has incorporated Meyer's work.[
Stanley Meyer died suddenly on March 20, 1998, while dining at a restaurant. His brother claimed that during a meeting with two Belgian investors, Meyer suddenly ran outside, saying "They poisoned me".[1] After an investigation, the Grove City police agreed with the Franklin County coroner report that ruled that Meyer, who had high blood pressure, died of a cerebral aneurysm.
