I am 80 yrs old from the midwest. It has always been ROCK....PAPER....SISSORS....and then you display your choice (no shoot.. no dynamite).
My son had this done at University of Iowa Hospital. It was 7 days for him and they slowly removed meds to bring on a seizure to catch it on the EEG and cameras. To localize where they are located in the brain. Prayers to you! 🙏🏻💗
I have had epilepsy for almost 30 years. I have had this test. It has been a long time since I had it. I was food deprived for 72 hrs and sleep deprived. It was excruciating. The glue they used to keep applying to keep the electrodes attached made my head itch so bad. I would say stay hydrated, sleep well prior to the testing. Take things with you to keep your mind going.

YES!!!! They absolutely CAN put her on a treadmill or exercise bike during the EEG admit!! And since it appears to me that she also struggles when she’s hot, I’d try to keep the room hotter too. You need them to be able to see what happens. Evan, please DO speak up. You’re Carlin’s advocate when she doesn’t feel like she can do it herself.
I’m a momma of a son who has intractable epilepsy despite still being on 5 seizure medications, each of which he takes 2-3 times a day. I have alarms set 5 separate times everyday for his medications. We’ve had numerous EEGs over the years unfortunately. I pray you are able to get some answers. I truly do.🙏🏻💜
Edited to add: it has appeared to me that standing for longer periods has stressed Carlin’s body as well. So rather than sitting on the bed, maybe she can try to do a lot of standing. It’s silly they confine your movement so much because that’s not real life at all. Sorry for commenting so long. I just know from experience how hard it is to get answers and not just with my 21 years experience with my son who has a rare disease. My daughter is 25 and also has numerous health issues. We’ve had more than our fair share of hospital stays, tests, and periods of no answers at all. I’ve learned a lot and still have a lot to learn navigating through all of it.
I feel for you. My son and daughter suffer with various health issues too and it's hard. My son is 29 and my daughter is 26, both live at home, both need daily support. Praying you feel God is close by 🙏 and that our children are delivered
@@bygrace3113 Thank you for your kind words. Yes, it is definitely challenging and rewarding both. Mine will always live at home. I will always be parenting a 3-5 year old in understanding child. My son can’t do much of anything normal people can do. However, they are a blessing and I thank God for allowing me to be their momma and caregiver. I pray for you also. I understand the path you are on, the good and bad, the hills and deep valleys. I pray God blesses you and gives you the strength that only He can give. Hugs from one momma to another.🤗🙏🏻🩵

Hey great camping hack for camp fires: stuff the cardboard egg cartons with dryer lint. You can cut the cartons into sections and burn them in sections or burn them whole.

I have been in healthcare 40 years. Be your own healthcare advocate, tell them you want her to have the EEG done while on a treadmill. Explain to your healthcare providers that, that is when you have seen the symptoms most.
I had one done on a treadmill here in Australia.
Also she had cavities filled after Zade- the material from fillings also may be causing issues 🤷🏼♀️ I feel like epidural is more likely but no hurt in checking
And the clot shot doesn’t help
Carlin & Evan, didn't Carlin have meningitis after she had Layla. It can cause lasting effects on a person health. Please check into this. I had meningitis as a baby & I'm having health issues because of it.
Carlin, My daughter Sara was normal at birth. 6mths of age she got sick with Bacterial Meningitis. She had 2 strokes while in a 8 day coma. She was diagnosed with Epilepsy. She will be 38 in Oct. She has had numerous EEGs over the years her brain seizures daily. Most days I can physically see 2 to 3. Around her period she's got them really bad I usually see at least 18 a day. But only for 2 days amonth like this. She's on 4 meds daily. So what I'm trying to say is her EEGs usually are 72 hours. Laying in bed being monitored by cameras. Special lights like strobe lights that flicker on and off. Lots of EEGs showed no physical seizure. But her brain is seizures all the time daily. I've learned speak up at the hospital what u want and concerns. They're pretty good at listening . Ask questions. Praying the Lord will bring out your problems to the light and you will be able to learn what's causing your seizures. Just lean on God he will get u through this. My son did an EGG a couple of weeks ago. They made him stay is a room that was plain/no color boring. He could go to the restroom, sit in one of the chairs or in the bed in the room. When you move, you have to take your wires with you. Make sure they wrap your hair after they put in the probes. The probes will probably itch, so wrappings your head helps. They keep you up all night trying to get you to have a seizure like it was 4pm to 4am at UAB. It was not good. They did find out that my son's seizures were focused not general. Make sure you wear button or zip up shirts, because you can not put anything over your head. Also it might take a couple of hair washes to get all the glue out of your hair after they take the probes out.
Evan's way of rock paper scissors is what I grew up with in the 80s. The way Carlin does it I've only heard in the past 10 to 15 years. Hope that helps 😂😊 Love you guys! Your family is such a breath of fresh air. I've always enjoyed watching your family on Bringing Up Bates and the past several years have really enjoyed your RUclips channel. I have been praying for your health struggles all along the way. In January I started having my own health issues that have greatly atered my life and my family's life. I have had countless tests and appointments and we still don't have a single answer. Watching you navigate this and stay so strong and positive has been a tremendous encouragement. I don't really like talking about my health issues, even to people that I know and love, because I don't have answers and it frustrates me. I completely understand you not wanting to share everything with everybody on the internet. However, please know that what you have shared has helped me A LOT, as I'm sure it has helped others. Thank you for allowing God to use this difficult part of your story to be an encouragement to so many people! I save your weekly video for a day that I'm struggling with my health and I need a pick me up or distraction. I'm praying that this hospital stay gives you answers, direction, peace, and hope.

I hope you get answers from the EEG. My sister just had heir's done. They had her stop taken all her medication 48 hours before her EEG, She could not have any caffeine and she could only have more then 4 hours of sleep. They wanted her to be at her most vulnerable for her issues. You have been a great inspiration for her. Thank you so much.

My experience with healthcare is you have to keep on people, poor communication is often part of the course. Don't feel bad for chasing people, it's sometimes the only way you get what you need, be your own advocate. Did you ever have a tilt test? Your birth video with Zade showed multiple episodes early on, I always think back to that time as a clue, similar to what you say about exertion/running. Don't hold back on informing people doing your EEG test your known triggers, repeat it however many times you feel you need to be heard or the right person know. Be extra assertive.

Hi Guys...I wanted to share my story, prayerfully it will encourage you...I have mentioned this before on your channel...I had my first seizure when I was in my 50s… When they took me by ambulance to the hospital, they did an MRI. Mine was a little bit easier to locate than yours. However, I ended up having to have a craniotomy for a cavernous malformation… Not only did they discover that I had one but I had four… That was in 2014 and in 2016 I had a stroke very mild…and in 2018 I had another one that one was way more serious. I spent three months in physical therapy seven days a week for three months… And I fully recovered with the exception of having a weakness on my right side… The other three malformations that I have in my brain the most serious one was in an area of my brain, where they could not do surgery… That one was the one that had bled in 2018, that caused my stroke… Then this year in February I had something very minor that cause weakness on my right side once again ...Then I started having some sort of spasm or something they're not really sure what it was… I also had an EEG for that which showed nothing ...But I'm still recovering from… But that cavernous malformation that caused all of this was
inoperable for where it was located in my brain… So I opted to have gamma knife… to stop the bleeds...I had eight days of radiation in 45 minutes… Where I used to have really bad headaches those have subsided… And my radiation oncologist told me that I wouldn't see any side effects until after two months… (my surgery was June 15 2023 Well praise God and I haven't really had any and I'm so incredibly thankful for that… I just want to encourage you guys to be advocates of your own healthcare, and to stand strong and be blunt and honest and show your frustration don't just leave it in the doctors hands SPEAK UP and tell them that you're tired of having all these test that you want an answer…Hope this encourages you....Don't be discouraged take your situation by the hornes and stand strong,tackle it and know that if you guys stay persistent you WILL find and answer!! Prayers for you guys!!

You guys are so right! Pictures help preserve the moment for ever. You mentioned for you guys to remember, but gosh I wish I took more pictures for my kids sake. They are 16 and 13 now and I tell them about something fun we did and they have no memorie of it💔 it is so great for everyone to remember ❤❤❤❤❤
Tip for camping, don't stress the little things. Your camping trip doesn't have to be perfect. And Christmas is my favorite holiday as well, and I also love fall
Also make sure they have her hyperventilate and go with very little sleep. Not enough sleep is what caused my grandson to develop seizures when he was 2. He’s outgrown them now but it is was the no sleep combined with hyperventilating into a paper bag that sent him directly to the ER during his EEG

My niece had seizures after having baby 2 , her neurologist thought it was related to her epidural. Idk but she hasn’t had any since. Carlin, you are in my prayer list.
I have said that all along that I believe it was related to the epidural, even a small pinhole from the epidural could have some effects
I was wonder too if it had anything to do with her epidural.
I think they started before the epidural, from her birth video it looked like it began once the intravenous drip was given 🤷♀️
I will keep praying for her.

I learned the rock paper scissors shoot version, but you guys could do both ways in alternate! I like the other way too!
My son had a 5 day eeg about a year ago. He didn't have a single episode while we were there. The day after discharge he had his longest seizure yet (13 minutes). The first 2-3 days we didn't do much. The last two we tried to deprive him of sleep and held some of his meds. I wish we had done it right from the start because lack of sleep is a definite trigger. Stress and anxiety are as well so maybe play game apps that are timed that might raise your anxiety some. Unfortunately we still don't know why he gets them but he did get an epilepsy diagnosis and his med has kept him from having seizures for months. I would definitely do whatever it takes to bring one on if you want them to catch one. 💛🙏

Keeping records in paper form is KEY from these types of things happening , when u can give date, time, name of person you spoke with copies of medical records insurance etc in PAPER form makes a HUGE difference..I know goin digital is much easier but I've been goin thru this for years and finally bc of the papers I've kept finally got my insurance to pay a 700,000 bill that they owed off..Yes the $$ is correct I am my OWN ADVOCATE!!..God bless

I think any kind of record is good. Paper can get lost. If they put it on their device it’s in the cloud forever. I’m 50 and people their age don’t tend to do a lot of writing. I’m of the writing generation but I find myself screenshooting a lot of important things and making notes in my phone lately. That way it’s always with me.
