I bought my first motorcycle when I was 18 years old (1970) and drove for 12 years without any major incident. Not trusting the number 13 I gave up motorcycling at 30 years old. My dream bike at that time was the Ducati GT750 from the early 70's. I only saw that bike one time in the flesh and fell in love right away. All I could afford were various cheap Japanese 2 strokes in my biking years but they were still lots of fun. Fast forward 50 years since my first bike and one day while driving on a country road to visit a friend I spot a Ducati monster 800sie in someone's driveway with a '"for sale" sign on it. I did an immediate u-turn to take a closer look and, just as when I was 18, it was love at first sight. That was in 2020 (pandemic year) and I bought this gem to satisfy my "second childhood" phase of life. After only a few outings on the bike I felt as comfortable riding as I was in my younger years. I am a lot more cautious now when driving this beast than I was back then because I know my reflexes are probably a lot slower than they were when I was in my youth. This is my Ducati story for better or for worse.

Beautiful Monster man! Everything you said is 100% facts about this bike. I have an M696 and most of my friends, who own sports bikes, think im crazy for sticking with this air-cooled bike that makes 40 horsepower less than a standard 600 supersport. But most people don't understand the beauty of the classic design of the engine and how it sounds idling or blasting down the road, it touches my soul everytime I ride it. Few understand the emotion these bikes invoke. I do find myself just staring at in my garage as well lol. I hope to someday own a 1st gen Monster like yours. It's on my bucket list. Never sell her, and carry on.

Beautiful bike. The early Monsters were so different from the standard and naked bikes, even to this day from the characteristics they provide through the L-Twin engine. I wanted to get the modern Ducati Monster but the lack of dealers close by and the cost of Desmo service, I ended getting a 2021 Aprilia Tuono V4 for the same price of the new Monster. Can not beat the distinct sound of the Desmo L-Twin though. It sounds so brutal. Jealous of your scenery as well.

I am with you on the reasons why such a bike is so good. I owned my 2006 620ie Monster for about 2-3 yrs and would still have it, alas though it was stolen a year ago and stripped for parts. Mine was red, and with Termis and low kms. Loosing it broke my heart. Sadly , I just havn’t had the spare funds yet to replace it with another Monster. Hopefully, one day I will be able to. They are such great value for what you get..I keep looking at such bikes and I must admit I am quite keen on getting a 695 as they are all my 620 was but with a bit more power..

First motorcycle vvas a Gilera (49cc I think) brand nevv in the port of Brindisi Italy, from my mom for my 11th birthday. It vvas delivered to the quay vvhere vve vvere tied up and transferred onboard. No longer did I have to beg to use my 'pay' (30 Drachma a day=$1 American then) to go rent a Vespa or later a Honda or Suzuki 50cc to ride about on Corfu Greece, the rest is a history of a long and ongoing love affair.
I am novv a very healthy and active, young 65 and just got my first Ducati Monster 1100 Evo deal sealed, vvill have it tomorrow ❤Love this video, have long-long lusted after Ducati, YOUR 800 is absolutely gorgeous in ALL respects! I can relate to your love of such machines 😁👌

I have 2005 620 variant of it and I have to say it was love on the first sight..that bike is sexy af.. Im small king as well and this bike is comfy.. few times I rode It 1000 kilometers (600miles for my burger eating friends) in one day and I was still fresh.. bought it for 2000 ish $ and 17K miles on the clock so almost brand new and still 20y old... I did valve adjustments and timing belts... Mr Drifto change them pls according to user manual it is every 12k or two years...Electrical.. yes my alternator died almost instantly after buying the bike :D what I saw on the forums alternators or regulators are going bad every 20k miles... my suspect is gunk in connector between regulator and alternator so check it and clean it :)

Love the sound of older Monsters. They are just so pure and raw! I have an 2007 S4RT that I never want to sell.
As for the gauges, check for loose pins in the back of the cluster. Does the backlight even come on? Can you see the needles trying to sweep? Possibly the gauge motors are shot. If all else fails talk to SOS Diagnostics in Oregon. They work on Ducati gauges. I had my gauges get fried from a bad regulator/rectifier on my S4RT. I mailed my gauges and ECU to them and they were able to fix it. They were not able to save mine but they got me a new PCB and programmed it to work the the ECU.@@SirDrifto
