  • I breakdown the Colombia vs USA Women’s World Ultimate Championship Final. I show opportunities where both teams could have taken advantage of opportunities to win the game, show fundamentals that could be better that could be difference makers in the game, and I highlight the Claire Trop vs Manuela Cardenas matchup!

I may be wrong, but I think the thumbnail is a picture of a young Vale, not Manu.

Was Cartagena hurt? Something didn't look right to me. Mostly bc I'm used to her just eating souls for 90 minutes ig
Thanks for covering this game! it was so much fun to watch live streamed and your comments, as always, very insightful

@16:50 I like the way Claire sets up on Manu here coming down on D, not running TO her mark but to the space her mark is about to attack
IMO that makes all the difference as Trop is able to maintain her buffer, keep her hips closed, and as a result shuts down both the open and break side cuts

I was curious to hear your take on the collision around 10:15. Imo it's a bang-bang play and very hard to say if Manuela was moving, but in the big picture, trying to defend a deep cut by blocking it with your body from a standstill (not running with the player) puts the offense in a tough spot and isn't really a fair way to play defense.

Yea, it’s a tough one. IMO Manu didn’t do anything to ‘guard’ Claire, she really just prevented her from running by just getting in her way. I think it’s a foul because Claire appeared to be trying to go around her and didn’t intentionally just try to run her over.

@natesolon I think Manu realized she had at most 2 steps before getting blown up deep and decided to jump the cut
Defensive foul for me, vetty "charge" sell attempt notwithstanding
      Also wassup Solon!

I was with Trop on the call at the time, but if you watch the overhead view that got skipped over, it looks like she came at Manu. I think Manu was ready to turn right and go deep with Trop but then Trop cut in towards her and she planted and braced for contact cause that's all she could do.

@@backhandbounce Manu is the one who puts her hands up defensively first, knowing the contact is coming. Trop might have been glancing away and not looking at Manu...until the very last split second. If you watch it in slow motion (0.25 playback speed in RUclips), you can see Manu initially moving to her right, but then at the last moment she cuts hard with her right foot to stop and then moves her body back into the path of Trop. Trop must have seen Manu initially moving to Manu's right and Trop figured she would run by Manu. But Manu stopping and moving back to Manu's left caused the collision. Trop had no incentive to want to have a collision, but would rather run by Manu and get wide open. Manu had the motivation to foul and cause the collision. And Manu did not contest the foul call by Trop, accepting that she was at fault.

@@northwolf I disagree. On the overhead view, you can see Trop change her path toward the right and into Manu. I don't think she expected Manu to stop but I wouldn't say that's enough to blame Manu for the collision. Certainly unfortunate, and I'm definitely not arguing Trop wanted to collide, but it looks more to me that Trop thought Manu was turning deep and that Trop could change against that and find space.
Either way, I'm not sure Manu rescinding is the same as admitting fault. Looked more like she was done having the debate.
