    Looking good beardless one!

    You know, I was shocked at first--by both the HAVPE and the absence of facial accoutrements--but, I've come to a realization: My beard is officially longer now!
    Looks good, makes you much younger looking for sure. And, as always, great work on the video and thanks for all the info!

      Thank you so much for all of the support and kind words!!!!!!!

    Just as a shout out, custom local wake words is totally supported but it requires a lot of training and effort to get a model that doesn't suck. I've spent 2 days recording audio, training a model, tweaking it and training again and I'm still having to run at 74% confidence if I don't want to repeat myself to trigger it.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  16 дней назад

      There were some ideas on this one, to make creating custom wake words via cloud service to train the model, but still that doesn't solve recording part that is needed.

    • @AlexLeporiday
      @AlexLeporiday 15 дней назад

      @BeardedTinker The quick and dirty method is to use the existing piper library to generate a wide range of voices all saying the target wake word as well as recording a number of your own samples to mix in. Then train the model against these. It's how the OkayNabu model was trained, but they also have 20,000 real world provided samples.

    will home assistant green enough for using the voice?

    This device only need to be connected via USB to the computer with Home Assistant or is the USB cable just for power and then everything is wireless? Will it work with Home Assistant in docker on Synology NAS with bluetooth-proxy M5Stack Atom Lite?

    I'd really like to see a comparison video between this and the S3 Box. What are the pros and cons of each?

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Месяц назад +1

      When I wanted to buy S3 box it was out of stock for a long time, so at the end I never got one. But I will order it for comparison!!

      @@BeardedTinker There is also a new device called the Satellite1 from Future Proof Homes that is worth a look. Seems like a more advanced version of Home Assistant Voice PE.

      @@BeardedTinker You might also want to look at the new Satellite 1 from Future Proof Homes as well. I think the three devices definitely have some similarities. I would appreciate your unbiased and straighforward option. I always enjoy your videos. Very informative and no nonsense.

    I hope all youtubers begin following your practise of muting the assist keywords. Ok Nabu even sets off my Google devices occasionally

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Месяц назад +2

      I do try to do it always, but sometimes it just slips. But this one I did look at 3 times to make sure everything is muted ;)

    OMG, I didn't click on the video yesterday because I didn't recognize the person in the thumbnail image. Today I saw the same thumbnail image in my subscriptions timeline and was like "wait, what? Who is this?" And then I read what channel it was from. I'm sorry I didn't recognize you without a beard, Beardless Tinker.

    I am thinking of trying a CM5 in my Home Assistant Yellow and see if the improved performance of the CM5 translates to improved voice performance. CM5's are still a little hard to get hold of though.... At least we know the Yellow is fully compatible with the CM5.
    Does 8GB RAM improve performance over 4GB RAM? Trying to see if it is justifiable to double the RAM, with the increased cost, as Home Assistant itself doesn't see improvements with more than 4GB.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Месяц назад +1

      It's hard to tell - I had 2GB CM4 and now have 8GB. As I've also had Frigate running plus bunch of addons, there was soo much improvement in performance. I'll definitely get CM5 - to test how it works. I don't see spike over 3GB anymore, but I like to have more RAM then actually needed, just to be on the safe side.

    hey (non)bearded tinker.. great video..can you comment on the microphones ability to pickup conversations at a distance? is it as good as a Google Home or Alexa?

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Месяц назад +1

      It should be able to pick it up across the room, even with some background noise. That was one of the test cases we all tested and reported back. Room I have it in is not that big, but still I didn't have any issues.

    Their announcement said 59$ and in the video also 59€. Unfortunately mediarath, the german supplier, isn't only out of stock, but also 10€ more expensive: 69€.

    • @tannisroot
      @tannisroot Месяц назад +1

      It's probably just a temporary supply issue

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Месяц назад

      59$ is MSRP - price should not be higher (or 59€), but they can't control it. I've seen in Italy in shop the are selling it for 59€

    Great video BT. I understand that is a DEV device but I really wanted this to be a great device, after watching all the videos on this thing, it really does not seem to be better than all the other things, the Atom, the S3 box...which, well they SUCK, just Suck. Very limited and OMG so S L O W! Hope it gets better fast but honestly the closest thing to a "possible" replacement to Alexa/Google right now is the satellite one device, IMO and I'm not ready to buy that thing either. Plus while I understand we all want a "Local" option TBT local is fine if you want slow and very limited operation but to get the OMG WOW this thing is fabulous effect get ready to fork out money for the AI back up. If you happen to be Elon or Jeff well , you can afford to run your own no BS local LLM but for the rest of us you need pay for it.

      Voice PE actually has audio processing hardware that is quite good at filtering out music and such

    • @BeardedTinker

      Exactly, it can pick up keyword even if music is playing in background or from a distance.
