Yay! Portland and Charles Osgood together! I've grown up in Portland and now am raising my own daughter here. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Certainly not somewhere inland.
I'm from Kentucky, one day I'm going to move here. It's so perfect, beautiful landscape and the people seem nice. It's my dream to move to Maine, not sure why? Maybe because it's out of the way of all other states. But anyways thanks for the video and god bless Maine.
New England is the unique and historical cradle of the United States. I love New England, this is a very nice region with a lot of cultural and historical items. Thanks for the visit.
Now, these sound like healthy states of minds, I enjoy hearing positive things said about Maine, especially the areas I frequent. I'm a spoiled CA gal, but have learned to enjoy the beauty of this Gorgeous place, it has taught me so much, I am also of the kind of mind that is intuitive, and tries to learn and adapt. I know now, that to find peace, I need to be in peace with all, which 1st begins with myself. Meditating is easy here, I love Maine, it is my 'Safe Haven' Happy Spring!
This city looks like a sleeping giant of potential. Especially as a tourist attraction. Beautiful images. I drove through Portland on my way to Acadia National Park one summer with a friend from Dallas where I'm from. I remember passing through the city and being a bit enchanted by the scenery. All the water and islands. It was amazing. I wondered why it didn't have a bigger profile. And the accents were great! A couple of times I couldn't understand what some locals were saying to me.
Maines biggest airport is in Bangor. Bangor International airport. There is also one in Portland and little tiny ones around the state. Waterville, Pittsfield, Augusta, and Trenton to name a few.
I am so lucky to live in this state. It truely is the best state I have ever lived. I am not a born new englander I was born texan. Lived in Nc,Sc, Ga, Nm, Tn, Fl, Pa and yep I would recommend maine over them all.
@nenagalvan check out Orono, Maine. It's right outside Bangor and is where the University of Maine is located. It's beautiful up there and a great place to go to college.
I was born and raised in mexico, I curently live in las vegas nv im thinking about moving to Maine or new hampshire for college portland seems like a beautiful city I just need to do more research on the university there :)
mrthompson, how far is it from a mountain view from Portland? I am thinking of going later this year or early next. It does look like a pretty city! :)
I've lived here for ten years, and while it's not very diverse, I don't think it's intolerant towards black people. Some folks don't like the somali's who come here because they feel they are leeching off the system, but you never hear of any hate crimes or anything. I live in Portland, and it's probably the most diverse city in the state. Most people are really nice.
@LordHannigan No doubt. For a few years my sister lived near downtown, so I got to hang out in the city some. I'm in Los Angeles now, and I can add LA to my list of cities that Portland is cooler than.
The video says "more than 150,000 people call the Greater Portland are their home". Greater Portland includes many towns that surround Portland, including South Portland, Westbrook, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, and others. While Portland only may have 60,000, Greater Portland has many more.
It isn't technically true that Portland is the largest city north of Boston. the city propper actually has a population of 66,214 as of the 2012 census. if you factor in for the City of South Portland and Biddeford the population goes up. Manchester NH has an estimated population of 110,209 within the city limits.
coming from someone who has lived their for all 13 years of his life portland only has 60,000 not 250,000 :) o well cool video, and it is a fun city if u go down to the old port and western prom.
WOW!! Your right I Just Saw It (On RUclips).....I thought It didn't have snow because it bordered California And Nevada. Sorry, I lived in the North East for a while and the Midwest but never the "WEST".
You will however find tons of wicked good Thai food, and some of the best beer in the country! Flatbread has good pizza, except it's sorta it's own thing. And it's a city, none of that "cute town" stuff. Go live in the County for a while and then see how small Portland is.
I've always wanted to move to Maine since I was a kid. But my fear of the discrimination is stopping me. Are Mainers tolerant of outsiders and more importantly black people?
You Only say that because you don't have snow. Oregon just seems weird BTW Portland,ME was Before Portland,OR do you remember the 13 colonies? or 1776 or 1791
@JimiHendrixLobbyist That's a lot like what happens to me. As soon as I get my PhD, I'll try Maine. That's got to be the most "me" place in the whole world.
I don't know about "Stabface", but I lived just outside of Little Rock for 11 years (just moved away this summer) and I can tell you that city is a lot worse than most places in the US, homicide wise. However I can also tell you that it doesn't affect most people. It's all the gang on gang murder. If you stay out of the ghettos you should be fine, which I assume applies to all other violent US cities.
60% of our limited hunting permits are granted to out of state people instead of in state hunters. Out of state people don't know how to drive even remotely in our winters. The Maine Canadian border is the most active border in the United States. We get swarmed by Canadians who always forget that MPH is not the same thing as KPH, and are constantly Bitching because their money isnt worth nearly as much as USD. We have plenty of reasons :P
Visted portland on my cruise last week. Very beautiful I have to return.
Will be in Maine first week of October. Coming to Portland then to Sanford . I want to fish, hike, see change of trees and of course eat!
Yay! Portland and Charles Osgood together! I've grown up in Portland and now am raising my own daughter here. I can't imagine living anywhere else. Certainly not somewhere inland.
As a resident of South Portland myself which was partly included in the video, I say PERFECT! Portland and Maine are awesome!
I'm from Kentucky, one day I'm going to move here. It's so perfect, beautiful landscape and the people seem nice. It's my dream to move to Maine, not sure why? Maybe because it's out of the way of all other states. But anyways thanks for the video and god bless Maine.
Wow.. amazing place.. absolutely amazing!!!
i spent the most beautiful 5 years of my life living in Portland!!! it is the most amazing city in the world!!! i miss you Portland!!!
Can't wait to visit again, hope to live there someday.
New England is the unique and historical cradle of the United States. I love New England, this is a very nice region with a lot of cultural and historical items.
Thanks for the visit.

I was born there moved to Cape Elizabeth when I was 2 days old and moved away from Maine when I was 9. I miss it.
I've never been to Maine but I hope one day I can move there. I always liked the outdoors and I am sick of big city life.
Peaceful, and nostalgic.
Looks nice.
Maines biggest airport is in Bangor. Bangor International airport. There is also one in Portland and little tiny ones around the state. Waterville, Pittsfield, Augusta, and Trenton to name a few.
i've been there and would love to live there.
I lived in falmouth for 6 years just 5 mins from portland. i really miss it;-(
I am so lucky to live in this state. It truely is the best state I have ever lived. I am not a born new englander I was born texan. Lived in Nc,Sc, Ga, Nm, Tn, Fl, Pa and yep I would recommend maine over them all.
I've never been in Maine, I always think that the day I'll take the decision to go there it will be to settle me in Portland for life!

The home of a great newscaster - John MacVane. One can hear MacVane's distinctive Mainer accent in any recordings of his WW2-era broadcasts for NBC.
@nenagalvan
check out Orono, Maine. It's right outside Bangor and is where the University of Maine is located. It's beautiful up there and a great place to go to college.
Woww. I'm moving there! :)
Portland is great :)
@southwestguy223 The largest airport is right in portland. There's also another one in augusta. so no.
@Amiduffer Thanks, I live in Portland and its just special.
@MunseyProductions I believe they are talking about the metropolitan area, which makes Portland a 500 thousand + place.
I live in maine. its a beautiful place
@MrRuigni That's not true...Boston is a major city and it takes about two hours to get there.
If i live in Maine, do i have to drive down to New Hampshire to go to the nearest airport? What is the largest airport in Maine?
The mountain view shown in the video is Bradbury Mountain - 25 minutes North of Portland.
I was born in Portland, Maine. I'm going to Terre Haute, Indiana for college in 2016.
I will,some brand in particular?
@JoeNJ1 yeah the whole state's quiet for the most part
I've lived here for ten years, and while it's not very diverse, I don't think it's intolerant towards black people. I live in Portland, and it's probably the most diverse city in the state. Most people are really nice.
And disregard all the haters posting nonsense below, Portland welcomes everyone. And we get more than enough snow. It's the place to be.
@LordHannigan No doubt. For a few years my sister lived near downtown, so I got to hang out in the city some. I'm in Los Angeles now, and I can add LA to my list of cities that Portland is cooler than.
I was there an I wish I missed my flight back to where I reside
i have been to the portland PD station and there is hardly anyone there!
what is the name of the show you got this from?
The video says "more than 150,000 people call the Greater Portland are their home". Greater Portland includes many towns that surround Portland, including South Portland, Westbrook, Scarborough, Cape Elizabeth, and others. While Portland only may have 60,000, Greater Portland has many more.
I want to move to Portland, Maine and find a teaching job. I'm done with Arizona.
I don't like all that, any quieter outlying areas?

I can imagine how much you guys have to hear about Portland Ore
coming from someone who has lived their for all 13 years of his life portland only has 60,000 not 250,000 :) o well cool video, and it is a fun city if u go down to the old port and western prom.

Portland doesn't get snow? Is that a joke? :l

@JimiHendrixLobbyist That's a lot like what happens to me. As soon as I get my PhD, I'll try Maine. That's got to be the most "me" place in the whole world.
hahahaha funny i live here and I'm moving to California!!
This city does look very much like a European city. Reminds me of Dublin.
I don't know where this guy is getting his info from...Portland is not the largest city north of Boston, Manchester NH is. Look it up!
it looks like europe !
I live there
I don't know about "Stabface", but I lived just outside of Little Rock for 11 years (just moved away this summer) and I can tell you that city is a lot worse than most places in the US, homicide wise. Hehe you people don't have to deal with the winter here.

150,000 > 109,497
I'd say it's still bigger than Manchester. ;)
Surf??
@TheLogicJunkie Ha ha.
Wow, at :24 seconds in that guy has the knobbiest knees ever!
Maines the best. Its not too hot, not too cold, there are pretty much no natural disasters and very little crime rate
@Amiduffer
And dont forget Detroit
The narrator sounds just like Dick Van Dyke! Seriously! : )
Check the crime stats of Portland Main. You only had 1 murder last year. That is absolutely amazing! In my city we have one practically every day!
@SecularTechnology I get more pissed when I say I am from Maine and they really ask if thats part of Canada. Then I attack wildly.
