  • Today's chapter is Revelation 3.
Pastor Bobby teaches us from this chapter what Jesus thinks about churches. There are things we can learn from these example churches of what to do and what not to do in the church of Jesus Christ in America today.

'Those who I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.' May I always remember this and when I get smacked, its time to take an honest, zealous spiritual inventory and repent and thank God for his undeserved love.

Revelation 3:19-20 “19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” Have been repeating verse 20 ever since I was a kid, oh how great God’s love for us.

“Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.”
    ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭19‬
Jesus’ rebuke to these churches isn’t done out of anger, but rather love. Jesus doesn’t desire that any of these churches would perish as a result of sin, but He wants them to be zealous and repent! Jesus is warning them of the judgement that is to come because He loves them & does not want them to be found dead in sin at the time of His return.
I want to take Jesus’ warning seriously. How am I doing at seeking Jesus? How could I grow in Christ’s likeness as I wait eagerly for His return?

I have heard people say that verse 20 pictures Jesus knocking on the door of your heart and others have said that it is a picture of Him knocking on the door of the church. But this picture of Him being at the door is also used in other passages that speak of Christ’s soon return. We see this is Matthew 24:33 & Mark 13:29 (gates in the ESV but the same Greek word) and James 5:9. So after some deep digging I have concluded that knocking at the door indicates His return is close and could happen anytime. It’s like verse 11 where Jesus said, “I am coming soon.” Maranatha. Come Lord Jesus.

Jesus gives commendation to the church of Philadelphia:
    Revelation 3:8
“I know your works. Behold, I have set before you an open door, which no one is able to shut. I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.”
What a contrast to the condemnation Jesus gives to the church of Laodicea.
    Revelation 3:15-17
“I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot!
So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing, not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.”
May God continue to humble me that I would be more like those in Philadelphia and less and less like those in Laodicea.
    He knows our works.
    Mathew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.” - Rev 3:20
God is still reaching out to false believers and calling them to repent!! God loves his creation, is being patient and wants to forgive our sins, if only they would respond by answering his call!!!
Many truths in this section that God is calling out:
    1. Rely on God for everything (food, money, cloths) and not yourself
    2. Do not be wise in your own eyes
    3. Do not covet but give thanks
    4. Do not idol yourself or other things placing them above God
    5. Do not be puffed up with knowledge and live in sin
This section makes me think of Matthew 7:21-23 as the end result for those not repenting.
Gods promise to “come into him” is when one repents and being born again, Gods spirit dwelling in you and living together. No better feeling than living in that promise of God.
I use to be one of these people being described and so thankful for the Lord for saving a wretch like me.

When John wrote the words of Jesus to the church at Laodicea, Jesus is left standing at the door of the church knocking and calling to anyone within who will hear (v20). He is waiting for a soul to hear him and open the door. Jesus wants to fellowship with those who will open the door to him. It seems the Laodicean church wasn’t His church; it was their church. Jesus wanted back in. He wanted to make it God’s church again. Praying that many churches in America will open their doors to Jesus!

After reading Revelation 3, I am just praising the Lord for finding Compass HB so early in my faith. It really does feel like I have found a church similar to the church in Philadelphia, where it feels like the Lord is pleased with the work being done at our Church to build his kingdom. It feels like open doors to build his kingdom are constantly being presented to us as a church and it is beautiful to witness the work of the Lord. There are so many churches like the church in Sardis and Laodicea today. Realistically we know that only the Lord can remove the veil that is over the souls at these churches. So all we can do is pray that their eyes open to the realities within the scripture.

I am reminded this morning that I am wretched! I am considering this morning once again how sinful my sin really is! Realizing the evil of my sin make me love Jesus more, and causes me to want to steer clear of sin, as well as serve my Lord who died to save me!

    Revelation 3:5
The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
A promise from Jesus to those of us who remain steadfast!

    Rev. 3:10-11
Because you have kept my word about patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial that is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell on the earth. 11 I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.

Wow! Take heed to these warnings and Jesus makes it so clear that those who do not follow His commands will be tossed aside. 2 Timothy 4:3 “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions…”

“Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.
Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.
The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne.”
    ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭3‬, ‭19‬, ‭21‬
What strong passages we read today in Revelation 3! Strong warnings and strong promises. May we bear fruit in keeping with repentance, being careful to HEAR the words of God and stand firm in them. If we do, we will conquer and be seated with Christ on HIS THRONE!! That’s so incredible to think about!!! What a beautiful promise!!!

    Revelation 3:5
[5] The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
The one who conquers is receiving some great promises from Christ…
-Eat of the tree of life (2:7).
-Not hurt by the second death (2:11).
-Receiving some of the hidden manna and getting a personal new name from Christ (2:17).
    -Authority over the nations (2:26).
-Ruling over the nations with a rod of iron (2:27).
    -Receiving the morning star (2:28)
-Clothed in white garments, never having our names blotted out of the book of life, confessed as one of Christ’s by Christ before the Father and his angels (3:5).
-A pillar in the temple of God and gets to know a personal name for God (3:12).
-Gets to sit on Jesus’ throne (3:21)
    Romans 8:37
[37] No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
In Christ, WE ARE more than conquerors! We can look forward to receiving these promises someday in the future!

I’ve loathed all organized 6:38 religion after hearing false teachings that led to legalism rather than a relationship with God. I felt better off on my own, than whatever was being preached at me.
There was also a lot of hypocrisy and partially/ nepotism from church leadership. I tried anything other than religion after that- and it ended in tragedy & pain I couldn’t imagine. But I thank God that He never gave up on me, His love endures forever!! I love You Jesus and I long to see you in all Your glory. ❤
So grateful for Pastor Bobby helping me dig into scripture myself and see my mind and life transform through faith in Christs life, death & resurrection into Heaven. 👊🏽🔥
Because you have obeyed my command to persevere, I will protect you from the great time of testing that will come upon the whole world to test those who belong to this world. I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown.”

    Revelation 3:3
Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.
Jesus is calling them to remember when they first received and heard the word of God.
    Hold fast to good teaching
    And repent of their deadness.
Praying I stay awake and ready to see our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
    Luke 21:36
But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”

The biggest issue in the USA: the lukewarm, the ones who add to scripture, the ones that take away, the prideful, and the divisive. If a place is biblically sound but disagrees on secondary issues, its NOT a false church, unless they also are doing the add to scripture or take away or disagree on something pertaining to salvation/Christ/ or the Bible itself (like adding to it because they think they have special revelation).

    Revelation 3:15-19
Jesus sees the works we do. It is either cold, hot, or lukewarm. He will only accept what is hot. It’s either all in or nothing at all. By His grace, mercy, and love He provides the call to repent and be zealous for Him. To deny self and depend and rely upon Him alone. Praying for more humility by seeing how wretched we are and how gracious and merciful Jesus is. Only through Him I can truly live a life glorifying to God.

Revelation 3;21 📖 "To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my father on his throne."
It is amazing that Jesus, the son of God, what he overcame by willingly being rejected and scorned and dying on the cross; who, at any time, could have called thousands of angels to save him; he has earned the right and the privilege to sit on the throne at the right hand of the father. He does not require the same of us. He only requires us to receive his love and to obey all of his beautiful commands that are only and always for our good. How merciful, loving and giving is our Lord.❤

Reading Revelation has been really refreshing, Jesus sees the heart of man & nobody can fool Him. I’m reminded of times in my life where I gave the right answer rather than the real answer to questions that I have been asked. I may have fooled others but Jesus continuously showcases all are exposed & nothing can be hidden. Lord I pray we would take your Words seriously & confess/repent. You love us more than anyone & know us more than anyone 🙏🏽❤️‍🔥
