Ive had a mix bag of experiences. Right next to my modem, wired connection fast af into my ps5, and get mega lag. Might be something to do with my laptop running on a vpn to stream off of the same network, at the same time...
However if i travel for work, and am in the next counifor example, it plays perfectly off of the same connection. That being the one at home and the one where i stay for work.
It does work quite well off of a hotspot... But its a bit hard to play shooters etc overall, its just not the same response, no matter how good the connection is.
I still love it, i just hope they have some plans to fix these issues.
I have 1gb upload/download speeds. I have my PS5 on ethernet. However the Portal only does wifi 5ghz. So when i get my portal I can only connect to my wifi 5ghz network since it cant do wifi 6 correct? My iphone is on the wifi 6 but the portal can only do wifi 5 so my question is, on my modem should I make 1 network name for all my devices under 5ghz or should i make 2 seperate networks with wifi 5 and wifi 6 and just put my iphone on wifi 6 and the rest on 5?
5ghz is fine 6ghz is not out on all devices, I don’t think the ps portal supports 6ghz or WiFi 6 not sure yet, but yes 5ghz connection will be very good for it. The reason I said separate the networks is due to some routers mixing WiFi 2.4ghz with 5ghz sometimes not giving u full strength of 5ghz and when you separate the access point to 5ghz u know u get the 5ghz speeds
@@JohnnyCanal oh okay yeah I got separate names for my 2.4ghz and 5ghz and 6ghz so im okay and yeah the portal and ps5 only do 5ghz so ill have to put that under the 5ghz.
Honestly just disconnect your HDMI cable from the PS5, the Portal will then run as you imagined it would of out the box
@@DRE2XLDidn't work. 🙂🔫
so I have fiber 1.5 I get about 1200 down and 1100 up. I have a TP Link Archer 8 antenna router, I have Telus's new wifi 6e boost that most consumers do not have yet and I have a ubiquiti switch and I just got the portal yesterday and I am experiencing terrible video quality to the point I cannot even play a game on it. I have 2 ps5's and they are both hard wired conntected and both have extra nvme drives installed. I am not sure if I got a semi faulty portal or whats going on in my network but at the moment the portal is not even playable for me.
Have you tried changing resolution on ps5 to 1080p some reported that fixed it for them
@JohnnyCanal hmm never thought of that ill try that thanks
I also had the problem with bad Portal Performance. The only solutions that fixed it for me were 1. connecting my ps5 via a cable to my router instead of wifi to reduce latency, 2. forcefully opening the TCP and UDP ports for my PS5 (port forwarding) that are needed for streaming in my router settings as this ports are normally closed by default. That fixed the issue completely for me and I can now fully enjoy my Portal.
I still get some picture quality drops at certain times in the evening, but it's due to the fact that I live in a flat and when all my neighbors gradually return home and start using their wifi device (phones, Laptops, etc.) the wifi channels get more populated/clouded and that in return makes it harder for the portal to receive a stable signal. As my neighbors start to go to bed and using their devices less and less, my portal gradually returns to its full streaming glory.
If you want to try this yourself, the ports you need to open are:
(For the PS5)
TCP:
80
443
3478
3479
3480
UDP:
3478
3479
49152 - 65535
(For the PS4)
TCP:
465
983
1935
3478-3480
5223
10070-10080
UDP:
3478
3479
3658
10070
I opened all of them just to be safe.
If you do not know how to do this, or you think it will take to long - you also can force your router to make the playstation an "exposed host" (I think it's called "DMZ Host" in America) in just one click. Just google how to do this.
I personally would not recommend it because it puts your playstation before the firewall granting it full access to the internet. In reverse also everyone from the internet can see and ping your playstation. Theoretically, if someone hacks your playstation they also get full access to your network and your all your devices. It's very compromising. But there's also not even one known case of a playstation being hacked from outside. I prefer the first method but I also have two friends that have all their playstations marked as exposed hosts since the playstation 3 era and nothing did ever happen (cause they had problems with voice chat on the ps3 and that's how they resolved them).
@David-cz9ej hey man thanks so much I just can't understand how a average user is supposed to know this or even need to do this
You're welcome! 😁 I hope your Portal is working better now.
That's the problem. The average user won't know about it and will just return the Portal because of incredible lag. To be fair, when I buy a 200$ device, I kinda expect it to work as advertised out of the box. If it doesn't - refund.
In the case of mirroring/streaming devices the restrictions are commonly found in the users network itself. The ISP can't ship your router with all this ports open by default, as it's a huge security risk. You should activate port forwarding per each individual device, so that only this device can use these ports. Otherwise your network would be incredibly vulnerable. To be fair, some newer routers give you the option to let a device choose an open ports that it needs as it goes. This option is also commonly activated via one click and is not hard to find. BUT - my router has this option and it's not working at all. I tried it first - playstation did not Initiate even one forwarding rule. Even as I tried mirroring to the portal. Still had to do it manually.
My only hope is that as mirroring and streaming becomes more mainstream, router manufacturing companies will probably feature some "gaming options" and maybe the router will be able to distinguish between a gaming console and a phone and let one set up forwarding rules automatically and the other not.
We'll have to wait and see 😊
Ive done all this 1G download speeds and connect to 5gh and i still have lag and choppy audio!! Ugh im gonna give it a week then return it if it turns to junk.
Have u tried different wifi router
@@JohnnyCanal I have na asus GT AC5300 it's not the one from the isp. It's a gaming router.
@@glovedcop69Played on Asus 5 ghz regular router and on Verizon's 1gb 5 ghz. Played the entire day yesterday and today and had very few instances of lag. No audio issues whatsoever.
I connected the wire to the ps5 the portable played so much
365 download mgb and 21.6 upload mgb... Should I be good with this set up wi-fi connection??
Yes that’s good connection
no mine is 900 down 20 up and it lags when playing online pvp but solo it's decent
Perfect connection. The same as me works perfectly
@@rubencamps6689works perfectly? mine's lagging on rocket league training solo, have you tried it if so is it stable for you? Trying to find my issue
If you experience lag, disconnect your PS5 HDMI cable and you should get zero lag on the Portal. Currently waiting for PlayStation to patch the PS5 and Portal
this does nothing, tried it
Now do you want me to buy the device for 300 dollars, put 300 on it and give it to the wifi modem? So I can only play on a small screen?
Does it work with mobile hotspot?
Yes it does. But mines keeps dropping out every 5 to 10 minutes
From my experience the portal will connect to the mobile hotspot, but I couldn’t connect to my ps5 away from home using mobile hotspot spot. Mobile hotspot spot data is not/was not strong enough (Tmobile carrier). I was pretty disappointed.
100 down and 50 up should work great or nah?
Super good
That’s what I have and it worked decent via WiFi but I bought a Cat6 Ethernet cable for like $10 and it worked tremendously better.
Mine works Great with 50mb download 8mb upload
Keep getting “can’t connect to your PS5 “ while using T-Mobile hotspot device
When you say 50MB connection do you mean upload speeds cause my download speeds on my PS5 are about 100MB average but the upload speeds range from about 8MB to 3MB. My portal connects to my PS5 but the quality is like 480p or lower. Its a real disappointment to be honest. I live in a household of 7 and there's a lot of devices connected to the Internet all the time.
Yeah the speed could be slowed due to 7 devices connected to your home network depending on their usages I think upload speed also had big factor as well as the PlayStation is somewhat uploading to the internet like a stream
@@JohnnyCanal Some things I've tried that you can share with people are using my phone as a 5G hotspot to connect my PS5 and Portal to at home instead of my wifi. You can also tell people to try using their phone or laptop as a wifi tether for their PS5 and Portal and try that as well. I've had various results with these tests. You could try some of these suggestions out and see if they work better or worse for your devices.
@@JohnnyCanalI just found out if you unplug the HDMI from your PS5 while in rest mode and then connect your Portal up it works much better! You can also use the original Pulse headphones with the dongle attached to your PS5 to actually use wireless headphones too and those work extremely well!
Fairly, more devices more spread in your connection so yeah lessen the total of the devices or get better internet.
I didn’t even think about just connecting my ps5 directly to the Ethernet. It def helped a lot. THANK YOU!
U have no idea what you're talking about when you talked about the ethernet cables :)))
my ps5 wired has upload speed of 20mbps and download speed of 900mbps why tf is my upload so slow
my portal is lagging on wifi wonder how to get higher upload speed
Your isp would have have to give u better upload, however connection should be fine for most part are u using a WiFi router that u purchased and not the isp one
@@JohnnyCanalnah it's the isp, xfinity's XB7-T. I was planning on calling Xfinity about it but I could try a new router first
PS Portal does not support the 6Ghz band of WiFi6E.
I got the WiFi 6
Buying a WiFi 6 router doesn’t make sense, the portal Player does not support WiFi 6.
This is true however most wifi 6 router have better speeds and processing its the better standard they are fairly cheap now
If you’re in your home with the ps5 you can’t use the WiFi alone…remote play is when the portal is near the ps5. So technically the ps5 would be using the WiFi 6 and the portal would vibe from the ps5 internet connection.
I have 5ghz wifi with 300mbs in the room and it was terrible simply not playable. I switched off on ps5 what people advices 4k 120hz hdr but it did not helped. What helped was Ethernet cable. Playable. I felt misleaded or not prepared by Sony in this point. Let's see what happens next. All in all I was waiting for this kind of device, so I have more tolerance and don't give up easily
Really weird. Cause with me it play perfectly with only 300mbs wifi with 30 mbs upload. Portals play perfectly even on Returnal.
@@rubencamps6689is your ps5 connected by a cable? This is the point in my case.
@@jawdk2843 No ps5 is connected to wifi
The people saying it runs perfectly are not true gamers. Damn thing literally has a motion delay on all games. Controller movement is not an instant response as it would for ps5.
I have 900gb wifi and it still runs like crap. I'm in the same room as both the router and PS5 as well. I'll be getting a refund it's clearly useless
When can we get 900 gb/s internet via wifi? The fastest internet network in the world is 1.2 tera/s.
@@WaynesTWVirgin Media
@@OTG_thaONE I solved the problem by putting it on eBay and selling it for £250 and making a nice profit.
I have 900 too and it runs perfectly for me
Same bro q gig Internet virgi. Media ethernet to ps5. Then seprate router gzming router 5ghz to portal. Runs like shit stutters every 13 seconds
Connect the ps5 directly to a router or modem. It doesn't matter if the router is not connected by cable directly to your main modem. The point is for the router to do most of the work. You free up bandwidth and the ps5 only has to feed the content via cable and not WiFi.
Please explain in basketball terms
The product is garbage. THEY NEED TO UPDATE THE SOFTWARE on the portal.
Why do all reviewers keep talking about internet when they sit on their couch. Internet has nothing to do with playing at home.
This isn't like starting your ps5 and you're good to go. You are streaming, your internet connection matters at all times with this device.
Are you on crack? 🤡😵💫🥴 Thats…THE MOST IMPORTANT THING WITH THIS DEVICE!!!!! Get out.
@@whatokyea96exactly. It’s the same on remote play before this device. Can’t wait for my mine to arrive
funny thing is the ps5 stream the signal via the internet to the portal not the wifi. If you turn on wifi but with no internet, you can't play the portal at all !
Yeah pretty odd should be local
