  • I've made a lot of football game videos over the years, and here's a compilation of some of the best -- from bad PS1 football games to decent manager titles, from FIFA to Pro Evo, to the weirdest titles you can find in the genre, a David Beckham vid that's exclusive to this compilation...all sorts. Enjoy!

I miss the times when we had more than 2 footy games to play. I've looked around for an indie game but there isn't much of that in this genre, which is really sad. I wanna have fun kicking a virtual ball like in rocket league!

1:12:47 I think Tecmo just did simple sports games really well. The NES/SNES era American Football games Tecmo Bowl and Tecmo Super Bowl still have a big following over here. There's just something fun about them that Madden never managed to capture.

You have a real talent for this, Kim. You take topics like football games, something that is objectively somewhere between watching paint dry and watching already dried paint in the excitement department, and make it interesting. Kudos.

Great video. We definitely had the sequel to Football Champ in our local arcade, it was called Taito Cup Finals. Lots of 30p's put into that one. I also liked Tecmo World Cup but only got to play that when the fair came to town as they always had it in their mobile arcade. Nick (Arlasoft)

I grew up with WC Italia 90, then Sensible Soccer. Aside from the obvious hours on Fifa, TiF an Pro Evo, my mates and I loved the Champions League series on PS2. You could pretty much guarantee a goal if you chipped the ball anywhere within 30 yards of the box.

Winning Eleven 6:Final Evolution on the GameCube was my favourite football game from this generation. Crazy how many winning eleven games I have on PS2. I bought standard winning eleven games and the J-League ones. Football kingdom on PS2 was such a disappointment after buying it on release from Japan. The nets were god tier though.

Just from the opening comment, I have to say, I'm not a soccer fan just like most Americans, but I've always loved soccer games. Same with hockey, don't watch the sport but love a good hockey video game. So before I've even gotten into this vid, lemme just say, I'm looking forward to it! I always enjoy these and look forward to them! I would love to see you do a series on a sport you're less familiar with and see if it raises your enjoyment of the sport or not.

I'm not through the whole video yet, but I don't remember you ever talking about the Worldwide Soccer series on Saturn. WWS 1 was the first soccer game I ever owned, and I only bought it because all my Saturn games were lost in storage after a big move, and it was the only game I didn't already have. I played the CRAP out of it and still do sometimes, it was just a lot of fun to me. But I'm a stupid American who don't know much bout all this asSOCiation football nonsense, so I've always wondered if the game I loved was actually any good or not from the perspective of someone who actually knows what they're talking about.

Addidas power soccer was absolutely awful, you could also score every time from just over the half way line, you simply held down the long ball button and the ball would get lofted up into the box bounce over the keeper and you could score, awful game.

I understand fifa 98 was necessary but it would not take long to turn into a boring fest and a game who only had the football part, everything outside of the pitch didnt had any work and world cup 98 came in to wipe the floor, it was a better game in everything and there was no reason to ever look back at fifa 98. And then 99 made verything better once again and on and on. They really did a great work at that time and the controls took it time to develop.

Arsenal is #1! Ian Ure is GOD! Sorry... That's all I know about European footy as you blokes call it. I mean, it was on every damn TV in every damn bar I went to when I vacationed in the Netherlands about a decade back, but I was too busy downing Grolsch and debating the merits of different sativa and indica strains, that my traveling partners and I had sampled at that year's Cannabis Cup, to pay much attention to some sort of sports ball. I mean, I don't even care much for my country's own indigenous sports ball games, ket alone some tea and crumpet variant! No, the only sport I care to watch (I do enjoy engaging in solo sports, like skiing and weight lifting, and things of that ilk) is the sport of the Gods, Pro Wrestling.... but that is neither here nor there.
Anyhow, everything I know about the sport of football or soccer, or whatever its called, I learned from reading Nick Hornby's romanticized, autobiographical essay, Fever Pitch, cover to cover three times while incarcerated (I happened to develop a rather nasty case of opioid use disorder in my late twenty's and spent about half a year incarcerated in New Haven Correctional Center, in New Haven, CT... which didn't have a library, much less a book shelf, so literature was difficult to acquire [the only way to get a book was to have someone on the outside, send one to you directly from Amazon,] and already being a voracious reader, devoured every book I could get my hands on like a proverbial Globglogabgalab, so despite having zero interest in "Futbol," I read the book several times [oh, and for those wondering, worry not... I've been in stable recovery for the past six years, earned my Masters of Science in Psychology with a focus on Addiction Studies {as I already had my BA in history, prior to developing a penchant for heroin,} and am now a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, so everything worked out... well aside from having to learn about British Football Clubs. One never recovers from that, but I digress....]) so I know a bit about Arsenal, Ian Ure, and Manchester United. That's about it.
Still with all that being said, I suppose I enjoy football video games better than "Football" or "Futbol Americano" or whatever one wants to refer to our American misnomered sport is. I mean, I did thoroughly enjoy Mega Man soccer, even if the game was horrible broken. It was just a matter of picking the robot master's with the most powerful special kicks. Well, that's all I have to share that's even tangentially related to this video.
