I did my PhD at the location in the background - New College, University of Edinburgh. The doors up the steps lead to a meeting hall where the Church of Scotland has its business meetings. To the left is the library. To right there's a door that leads to the classrooms and offices. It's a beautiful and historic building on the Mound in Edinburgh practically next door to the castle and overlooking Prince's Street and the Prince's Street Garden. Turn around and you can feel and smell the sea air coming in off the Firth of Forth, mixed with an odd yeasty odor emanating from a local beer brewery that often permeates the city center. The sound of buses, tourists, bagpipes is carried to your ears on a crisp breeze.
