Most edifier speakers will benefit from a -1 or -2 treble and a -2 or -3 bass. The treble and bass knob on 1700 work like this: +6 on treble is a +6db boost at its peak @ ~18khz and +6 on the bass is a 12db boost at its peak @ 80hz. Any adjustment on the treble knob will adjust the whole frequency from 4khz - 20khz gradually and bass knob from 20hz - 220hz gradually. Give that a go, it wont be so fatiguing.
@@michwoz there is no way to adjust the mids thru the speaker, so the only way is to bring both ends of the spectrum down to meet the mids and be as flat as the 1khz point.

I don't think the comparison is fair because the R1280DB is adjusted to play at a much lower volume than the R1700BT. You need to ensure both outputs the same decibel before doing the comparison.
Sometimes the R1700 sounds better, but a bit too loud, and harsh? Whereas R1280DB feels weak? Maybe boosting the knobs can make it better than the R1700?
1700 sounds MUCH better here, but in other videos, the 1280 has a much more balanced sound, I'm guessing due to the smaller tweeter. Which do you like better in daily use?

I use it on my turntable for critical listening of vinyl records, the 1700bts is sounds a lot fake with vinyl records whereas the 1280dbs is almost perfect compared to other more pricier speakers for vinyl listening :)

The R1700BT seems to compare to the R1280DB much in the same way as hitting the LOUDNESS button on a '90s Technics stereo I have does. Bunch of boost to the lows and highs at the expense of mids and balance. Makes me think the R1700BT is the better choice by itself for a stereo TV/movie setup whereas the R1280DB might win by itself for a computer desk/bedroom music setup. You could also hook up a subwoofer to the R1280DB at which point it might pull ahead in a living room environment, but I'm not 100% sure. Hooking up a sub isn't even an option on the R1700BT unless you get the R1700BTs which loses the blackwood option and only comes in this red shade of walnut. Then again you might even be able to get these to sound almost the same with the bass and treble adjustment knobs, but you'd have to experiment with that. This is just my impression from this untuned sound demo.

Hi, for the price.. its good enough. I can't think of any other speakers better than this at price range. But if you want your neighbor to make your music to be their favorite whether they like it or not.. I'd go for S series.
Tilt the 1280 like the 1700 and then see how it sounds. The 1280's are sitting back some on the stand tops which is having an effect on the sound. Fix the test set up guys!

I'm interested in buying those but what's stopping me is their Bluetooth capability (I don't have access to the non-BT model) - I just try to avoid unnecessary BT radiation (minimal as it is). I wanted to ask if there's an option to turn the BT chip off completely (so it won't be recognizable from other phones / devices). I tried to contact Edifier about that to no avail. Hi April, Thank You. You have 2 options.. BT mode or wired. If you choose the latter, BT will turn off completely and will not be recognizable by devices. I hope I answered your question.
Can't stand the piercing tweeter loudness of 1700BT. The sound balance is a little of V shape, recessed lower mids. 1280DB sounds more flater, focusing more on the vocals & nearer to British audiophile sounding speakers. There is a tad of harshness in the tweeter with certain tracks in the 1280DB though & that reminds you its a budget speaker.
for the price these are great speakers. The little paper driver gives everything it has and can go quite loud. In the end you get a pair of speakers and an amplifier with bluetooth for 140 euro. I put mine on stands just like I would normal speakers it sounds great.

@@vunguyenanh5763 Then definitely go for 'bookshelf' 2.0 speakers like Edifier or Microlab. Sound quality is much better than any portable JBL (they usually have boosted clumsy bass). Price/quality is better than typical PC speaker brands like Creative or Logitech.
They're too fatiguing to listen.lacking of bottom end.that kind of speakers are good for vocals.try to play Peter Cincotti,Michael Buble,Diana Krall or Audiophile Female vocals.i bet you'll gonna love it and the speakers will perform much better
What is the use if they cant play mainstream music well? Not everyone is goin to play Diana Krall or Sarah Brightman thru an SACD. So what if they sound good with Yao Si Ting but not Britney Spears?
Should we assume you set the bass level 0 on both speakers ? The R1700 will blow away the R1280, IF you increase its bass level and lower the treble for less harshness. This was a very poorly conceived test.

Speakers like Edifier, microlab are to expensive these days. But still good quality if something need simple and easy to connect pc speakers.

And I dint really consider all Edifiers to be PC speakers, half of them are proper powered bookshelf speakers. For the price, the only ones that can compete is Swans Hivi.

I have a RI280DB and I think it sounds more tinny lol . Might be time for an upgrade . That bit of extra base sounds much better to me .
Were the speakers volume normalized? The 1700 sounds louder and thus better, but is it at the same volume as the R1280DB? I don't think so.

You should hear what they sound like when connected to a subwoofer. Not just better bass, but clearer highs and a better mid range.

I think the song "All about that bass" (which is horrible) was written specifically about the R1280DBs. No treble.

The 1700 can handle max volume with the bass and treble buttons untouched.
