Slow Down Young Athletic Opponents with This Guard Passing Position

  • In today's video I show a simple half guard top position I've been working on to slow things down with guard passing in BJJ, especially No Gi.
If you've watched any of my stuff in the last year or so you've probably heard me complain about being older. I'm not old by normal standards but by athletic standards I am. I also have some super tough young Purple, Brown and Black Belts that give me all I can handle.
So, to slow down the speed with the passing on top I've been focused on a specific position a lot. It's very similar to a position I've used in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu for years and shown on the channel. But in the video, I show some specific adjustments I've been working in to stay tighter, add more pressure and slow my opponents down.

Im a 50 yr old whose been training for a few years now. I've always called that half guard squeeze as 'Drowning the Cat' as folks tend to try to explode from the bottom and burn their energy. Love that spot. Than you for the tip on using the kimura attack to get there. Appreciate you man. I'll even forgive you for calling yourself old whippersnapper!

Lol, I naturally started doing this as soon as I turned 40 without anyone ever showing me this technique! I guess I just adapted to rolling with younger faster guys while I just got older and more disabled. It's my favorite way to pass and submit while still being able to conserve energy.

I started at 37 with plenty of previous body problems (knees, back and such) When I first started I tried to keep up with the younger guys. Gradually learning to staple guys down inch by inch.
I never imagined something I did to survive as a “spry” no stripe white belt would be on RUclips, or by the Immortal Chewjitsu! That is so freaking awesome man!

Lol, awesome! Old man BJJ is my favorite BJJ! I've been utilising those passes for some time and they're super powerful when it comes to absolute control and slowing right down. I've been working further on those points you highlighted with the chest to chest and keeping your head right down towards the ground....aka focusing on the pressure game.
