@Bob Baby This is a free country. That means if you're really as smart and as hard working as you think you are then you and your people will do just fine. I'm amazed that the one group who was coddled the most in this country is whining and crying about how unfair your being treated. Yet your superior? In what regard? In your group therapy meetings stop telling poor white people that black people are the reason they're poor. There was poor and impoverished whites during periods of white supremacy ideology. The devil and his followers are still able to use old, outdated lies to deceive the fools and emboldened the wicked. The greatest disservice you can do to your children is to teach them to be racist. I would say one of the quickest roads to hell there is. Simply because the greater community(whites included) want nothing to do with racist spiritually. The first war mongering group to go against God if they find out Jesus is a black man would be?

I hate people that say "I could care less" rather than "I couldn't care less".

    • @jimreily7538
      @jimreily7538 9 лет назад +6

15october91 Yep, it used to confuse me greatly. I actually spent time trying to determine what it meant, and I remember wondering, "am I wrong, or does the remark 'I could care less', not make sense ?"
Because if one doesn't care at all about an issue, then it is not possible for them to care less about that issue, and so, "I couldn't care less" makes sense.
But saying, "I COULD care less", is akin to saying, "I actually do care". I think it is one of those irritating little confusions that has injected itself into the common English parlance.
Similar to when people pronounce "espresso" as "expresso". I remember when I first heard someone saying he had an "expresso maker", I actually thought I'd been pronouncing the word "espresso" incorrectly. I thought, "ah, so the Italian pronunciation is actually 'expresso'".
Then later I realised people who said "expresso" were just mixing up "express", and "espresso". They just hadn't bothered to read the word "espresso" when they saw it in print.
You'd be surprised how many people only read the first and last letters of each word, in any text, when they skim over said text. Interestingly enough, if you take a given piece of writing, keep the first and last letters of each word the same, but mix up the order of the other letters, the meaning can still be fairly easily deduced. For instance:
"Tihs is a silpme pceie of wntriitg, wcihh I am srue you wlil be albe to irneeprtt elsaiy."
Anyway, that is my theory why people mix words up - but it doesn't explain why someone would think "I could care less" would make sense.

Christopher fought for freedom of speech his whole life. He was also clear on his views that the freedom is more critical when it is offensive, correctly stating the best way to counter offensive speech is to debate the issue to know the why of the offensive messages to better understand where people are coming from. When you debate you open the possibility of correcting misinformation. If it is deeply held beliefs, you won’t change their mind but you will understand them better to prevent corrosive discourse.

    • @ThisCharmingMan1984

Yeah, you wouldn’t think it would be a source of comedy, but the way in which he deals with these racists is just fantastic to watch, and is a perfect distillation of Hitch’s incredible wit and humour: he kind of lures them in, with a straight interview- which it was for the most part, about their beliefs, but manages to deliver barb after barb, without them even noticing all of the time.
Little lines, like “Cowardice of your convictions”, and “Takes a lot to make me cry” sort of went over their heads- particularly the son’s, who seems an incredibly dim bulb: or maybe he was trying to soften the edges of his worst views, by constantly dancing around the questions, like he had some sort of fantasy of possibly becoming some sort of regular media figure, and didn’t want to completely “burn his crosses”, by admitting to his most heinous opinions haha.
The problem was, even though he tried to avoid coming off like a total racist lunatic, it was unavoidable, due to the rest of his opinions- that he admitted to, also being completely batshit crazy racist: so he might as well have been open and honest, with just how much of a vile piece of shit he is/was.
I also like how Hitchens kind of took the gloves off at the end, when he talked about what might happen, if these racist arseholes ever looked like they were gaining power, or trying to take over, when he said: “…if you ever looked like doing any of this…we would start doing- what we haven’t done this evening, and taking you seriously” haha.
Basically, it was Christopher pointing out that; just because he was asking them questions, and treating them with a modicum of civility, it didn’t mean that he didn’t also find them absolutely vile, reprehensible and batshit crazy haha.
He just let them talk openly about their beliefs, to show people just what pieces of shit they were: all he had to do was get them to admit their true views, by gently prodding them with his questions, while amusing himself, and the viewers at home, by aiming slightly veiled humorous insults at them, to puncture their delusions of somehow being “racially superior”…and it worked beautifully haha.
Modern journalist should watch this, and take note, of how to deal with crazies like this: it would make things a lot more entertaining, and might go some way to breaking through all the lunatic conspiracy theories, that seem to have gained traction, and become popular in recent years.
Let’s face it, something needs to be done, to get through to these lunatic conspiracy theorists, and stop the spread of their batshit views haha.
      All the best.

Its really because he does not follow mainstream narratives. Also is hard to follow for the mainstream public , he uses a lot complicated/big words. He actually gives his opinion , unlike most talk show hosts. Tv is mostly uneducated trash , that never truly makes you think or liberates your thoughts. Tv is not a place for smart people ,the internet is .

Why he didn't get his own show is because he pretty much believes what these 2 guys said about jews. He couldn't deny anything they said or disprove it, all he could come back with was basically trying to label them as holocaust deniers to detract from ANYTHING else they said.
He did EXACTLY what he accused many others of doing against him. Attacking him and not the argument.
Hitchens threw in his lot with the Palestinians long ago, and has long been a critic of Israeli policies. NO network worth its salt was ever going to give him a permanent platform. You KNOW why.
All Hitchens did here was go for character assassination and did NOT allow them to answer a question in depth or allow them to justify their answers. He wanted 'sound bites'.

Show this to whoever tries to censor racists. Show this to any interviewer who says something as utterly stupid as "I won't give a platform to this hate speech". Free speech is the absolute best to destroy bad arguments, not moral grandstanding and censorship. Christopher Hitchens allowed these men to speak while being more respectful than anyone could imagine, although he was by no means doing them a kindness, he was simply giving them a rope to hang themself with and keeping them on the subject of what they actually believed.

@@dennisk5500 You're a bad person. There is no principled position against free speech, only arguments from power. I value society's ability to arrange itself against evil for legitimate reasons rather than have you arbitrate what is good on my behalf. Which we can only know which ideas are good based on if they can be presented and discussed with someone who absolutely disagrees with him.
Do you think anyone was convinced by the white supremacist here? And if so, do you think that outweighs the gain by those opposed by hearing counter arguments and means for conceptualizing why one would consider it bad? The best ideas win when presented beside each other, so unless you actually think white supremacy is the better idea you should have no fear of it being presented.
