Michigan International Speedway
June 16, 2002
The NASCAR Winston Cup Series heads to the Irish Hills of Michigan for the annual June race at Michigan International Speedway. It begins during the pre-race show where we see a very young Chase Elliott ride with his father Bill during Bill's interview (at 6:44). Also, the late Steve Byrnes filed another one of my favorite interviews of his - Kyle and Pattie Petty on the construction of the Victory Junction Gang Camp and missing their son Adam on Father's Day.
The race was a typical Michigan Cup race filled with few caution flags, long green flag runs, and green flag pit stops. However, a late race caution caused a red flag and subsequent frantic 3-lap shootout that goes down as some of the greatest Michigan racing over the last 15 years.

So funny seeing young Chase Elliott at 6:45 and now, 15 years later, he has a couple 2nd-place finishes at this track and is a Busch series champion.
He runs well at Michigan much like his father, they kind of have the same driving style and they run well at the same type of tracks.
Now he’s a cup champion and one of the best in the sport
Final Michigan Race with Bobby Hamilton with it still being held as of Today.
Omg this aero package was amazing!
Less than 2 days after I was born
What a race thanks
Fun Fact: This was the 2000th points paying NASCAR Cup race.
13:25 It's 2016 and Dale Earnhardt Jr is still racing but it was funny to hear this
yeah and he's still racing and he's 41 so maybe we will see him announce his retirement any time now maybe next year if not then he has about 7 years left or more
Well, that was his last winning season at least. The others he was just winding his career down and being a fixture at the track. He was all but done after that concussion he suffered and Jeff Gordon came out of retirement to sub for him.
It’s actually 2017
2015 was Jeff Gordon’s final full season.
2:10:52 could be the dumbest red flag in racing history
First and Only race of Jason Small
Last race of Gary Bradberry
This seemed like Jarrett's race all the way, but Kenseth found a way to pull it out. (He would win here in Ausust, though)

So is Jr. Retiring?
Well Jr did retire in 2017
